Apple TV+ Has Announced Its Release Date Time Frame and Target Price, Plus a List of the Streamer’s Headliner Series

AppleTV+.jpg

We now have word on the time frame and price for the upcoming streaming service, Apple TV+. In a report from Bloomberg, we learned that the movie and TV subscription service has its eye on a November startup date, and is thinking of offering a free trial to its subscribers, with a $9.99 monthly price tag afterward. This is a higher price than Netflix’s lowest pricing tier, Hulu, and the upcoming Disney+, which is also launching in November, with a crazy roster to boast!

Apple TV+ does have some impressive projects that they are working on that include The Morning Show, a dramatic series starring Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston, and Steve Carrell, Amazing Stories, an anthology series brought back to life by Steven Spielberg, See, a post-apocalyptic drama, Little America, a half hour anthology series about immigrants by the hilarious writing team of Kumail Nanjiani, and wife, Emily V. Gordon. The streamer will also boast family content including Helpsters, a Sesame Street type series, and Little Voice, a musical comedy/drama by J.J. Abrams and Sara Bareilles. There’s the sci-fi series, For All Mankind, and true-crime adaptation of Truth Be Told starring Octavia Spencer. There are many other projects and other big names attached, like M. Night Shyamalon, and Oprah Winfrey, so I am actually really excited!

I think it’s pretty amazing that Apple is bringing a completely new slate of fresh content, and it’s really intriguing, and may just be totally worth the price tag. What do you think?

Disney’s Upcoming Streaming Service is Hoping to Eliminate Password Sharing For Obvious Reasons

Disney-Plus-bundle.jpg

How many streaming services do you use? I use four. How many are you enrolled for? I’m signed up for three. I think that’s fairly typical, but I know people who don’t pay for any of the streamers they piggy back on! But the upcoming streaming service, Disney+ is looking to put an end to that, at least as much as they can. Disney and Charter Communications has released a joint statement for its subscribers on the Spectrum Cable plan. Here’s what was said in the fine print:

“Additionally, Disney and Charter have also agreed to work together on piracy mitigation. The two companies will work together to implement business rules and techniques to address such issues as unauthorized access and password sharing.”

The companies haven’t unveiled what their plan is to combat this issue, but I guess we will find out. It seems like any way they’d go about blocking users from sharing their password would just make the service less user-friendly, so we will have to wait and see.

Sony Pictures Releases Statement on Marvel Breakup and Places The Blame on Disney

Yesterday the big disappointing news hit that Sony and Marvel were breaking up and that Spider-Man will no longer be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It was reported that Sony will be developing any future Spider-Man solo films alone and they confirmed this in a statement that they released. They also place the blame on Disney by not allowing him to continue working on the Spider-Man films:

“Much of today’s news about Spider-Man has mischaracterized recent discussions about Kevin Feige’s involvement in the franchise. We are disappointed, but respect Disney’s decision not to have him continue as a lead producer of our next live action Spider-Man film.”

The statement goes on to say that they hope this decision Disney made will change in the future:

“We hope this might change in the future, but understand that the many new responsibilities that Disney has given him – including all their newly added Marvel properties – do not allow time for him to work on IP they do not own. Kevin is terrific and we are grateful for his help and guidance and appreciate the path he has helped put us on, which we will continue.”

That’s a very different side of the story than what was reported yesterday! In all the reports yesterday, the blame was placed on Sony executives Tom Rothman and Tony Vinciquerra. It was explained that “Disney asked that future Spider-Man films be a 50/50 co-financing arrangement between the studios, and there were discussions that this might extend to other films in the Spider-Man universe. Sony turned that offer down flat, and I don’t believe they even came back to the table to figure out a compromise.” It was also said that they don’t “want to share its biggest franchise.”

The question is… what in the hell is going on and what is the truth!? Is Disney at fault like Sony claims, or is it Sony!? I hope Disney didn’t ruin this for the fans! That would piss me off! I’ll be pissed off with whoever is to blame for this mess. If it is Disney’s fault, then yeah, I don’t blame Sony for wanting to try and continue the franchise on their own. But, I can see Disney not wanting to make money for another studio like they have with the Spider-Man franchise for Sony.

There are two more Spider-Man films currently in development that director Jon Watts would return to direct. Tom Holland will also reprise his role as Spider-Man. But, seriously… I don’t really see the point in that if he can’t be part of the MCU. They might as well just reboot the whole damn thing again.

A lot of fans are calling for a boycott of Sony right now, will they change the boycott to Disney if what Sony is saying is true?

Chris Pine Set to Play John Dean, Richard Nixon’s Attorney in Upcoming Film For Amazon

chris pine wonder woman.jpg

Chris Pine is set to play historical figure, John Dean, in an upcoming feature film for Amazon. Dean was the White House counsel, and a pivotal cog in the Watergate scandal in the early 1970’s. The film will actually consult with John Dean himself, who will serve as executive producer on the project. The script is being written by Evan Parter.

Variety gives us the following description of Dean’s role in history, as well as his character:

Billed by the press as a “connoisseur of cover-ups,” Dean became a crucial Nixon whistle-blower by offering testimony that implicated the president in the historic cover-up. In exchange, he served four months of house arrest and plead guilty to obstruction of justice. He’s since written numerous books and serves as a political commentator. In recent years, he’s been highly critical of the Republican party and President Donald Trump.

This is definitely a project to keep an eye out for. I love when enough time has passed by an historical event, so that we start getting more insight into what really happened. Are you interested in this story?

Netflix is Producing a Remake of SUDDEN DEATH With a Comedic Twist Called WELCOME TO SUDDEN DEATH

netflix-is-producing-a-remake-of-sudden-death-with-a-comedic-twist-called-welcome-to-sudden-death-social.jpg

Jean-Claude Van Damme’s classic 1995 film Sudden Death is getting a remake thanks to Netflix and writer and director Dallas Jackson (Thriller). The film will be called Welcome to Sudden Death and it’s described as being “martial arts heavy …with a comedic twist.”

Michael Jai White (Black Dynamite, Tyson) and comedian Gary Owen (Daddy Day Care, Get Hard) are set to star in the film and it’s obviously taking a new spin on the subject matter.

There’s no word on what the story will entail, but the original film featured Van Damme as a fireman “who interceded when terrorists snatch the U.S. Vice President during the seventh game of the NHL Stanley Cup.” I assume the new film will tell the same story, but in a more comedic way.

Netflix has scheduled the film for June 2020 release. What do you think about Sudden Death getting a comedic remake?

AVENGERS: ENDGAME Writers Explain There Have Always Been Two Steve Rogers’ in The MCU Timeline

avengers-endgame-writers-explain-there-have-always-been-two-steve-rogers-in-the-mcu-timeline-social.jpg

The writers of Avengers: Endgame, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, are still discussing the film and how the MCU is affected by Steve Rogers’ going back in time. They explain that in the whole MCU timeline that we’ve been watching there have been two Steve Rogers’ running around. The one that came out of the ice and joined the Avengers, and the one that Peggy Carter married after he went back in time.

During an interview with Canada.com, after they were asked about this, McFeely said:

“It depends on what story Marvel wants to tell going forward. I don’t know if Marvel wants to tell any more Captain America stories or if Chris (Evans) is up for it. Do they want to tell an alternate timeline story? Chris and I are partial to the idea that Steve is part of a strange, unique time-loop where he has always been there. The husband that you very purposefully did not see at Peggy’s bedside in Winter Soldier is Chris’ Steve. We have always thought that he was her husband. The movies you have been watching follow a line where he always goes back. To be fair, not everyone agrees with us. I don’t even know if Marvel agrees with us. But that’s what we think.”

Directors Joe and Anthony Russo don’t subscribe to this idea. They say that when Steve went back, he created an alternate timeline where he lives out a peaceful life with Peggy. Joe said, “If Cap were to go back into the past and live there, he would create a branched reality.” But he then asks a question that he doesn’t answer, “how is he back in this reality to give the shield away?”.

It was revealed that Peggy had two children with her husband, which means Steve and Peggy also have two kids running around in the MCU. In regards to that, the writers previously said:

“It was always our intention that he was the father of those two children. But again, there are time travel loopholes for that. It does introduce the idea that there are two children who have somewhat super soldier DNA.”

What are your thoughts on all of this? Do you like the theory presented by the writers or the theory presented by the directors? I wonder who Kevin Feige agrees with!

David Fincher Has Five Seasons Planned For MINDHUNTER

I just finished the second season of Mindhunter and it was freakin’ incredible! It’s easily one of the best shows you can watch right now. Netflix has yet to renew it for a third season, but when creator David Fincher pitched the series to Netflix, he wanted it to run for five seasons.

During a recent interview with THR, Holt McCallany, who plays FBI agent Bill Tench on Mindhunter, offered some insight on Fincher’s plan for the series, saying:

“He said ‘Listen, are you ready to do this for five seasons? Because even if I fuck it up, it’s gonna go five seasons, and I don’t intend to fuck it up.’ So I’d like to think that we will continue, for as long as David is intrigued by telling this particular story.”

So, hopefully Netflix stops playing with our emotions soon and renews the damn series for Season 3 already! There is so much more that this series can dive into, so many crazy, sick, and twisted serial killer stories that could involve the likes of Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy, Hillside Strangler, Green River Killer, and more. The series is currently setting up BTK.

I hope that Netflix allows Fincher to keep telling these stories! The series is just so well done with incredible writing, acting, and cinematography.

The report goes on to say that even though Mindhunter hasn’t been renewed yet, production on the show will by “moving to a different production location.” The fact they are planning on moving the production tells us that there are no plans of shutting it down and canceling it yet!

McCallany also teased that Season 3 might be “a complete reimagining of the show.” Unfortunately, he doesn’t explain what that means. I imagine there could be a significant time jump or something like that. In a previous interview with Collider, the real FBI agent that the series is based on, John Douglas, offered some other story lines that the show could explore:

“There’s a lot more they could do. A good one would be the Hanson case up in Alaska. Robert Hanson. He’s the one who hunted down women, flew them up into the wilderness in his airplane that he owned, and then he’d strip ’em down naked and hunt them down like wild animals. That’s going to be a big one. And Green River is going to be a big one. The BTK, they’re doing it now. I don’t know if they’ll come to a resolution… There are some other cases, and some cases are not well known, but they’re interesting cases. We were involved, my partner and I, in the John Gacy case. And of course you’ve got Ted Bundy. That was another agent in my unit who I sent down to spend time with Ted Bundy. That has to be one as well.”

What serial killers would you like to see the series explore as it continues?

Sony Pictures Releases Statement on Spider-Man Leaving the MCU

Sony Pictures Releases Statement on Spider-Man Leaving the MCU

Sony Pictures releases statement on Spider-Man leaving the MCU

Following yesterday’s shocking news that Disney and Sony Pictures were cutting ties on their arrangement to share the Spider-Man franchise, Sony has released a statement to clarify the situation.

“Much of today’s news about Spider-Man has mischaracterized recent discussions about Kevin Feige’s involvement in the franchise,” Sony stated on Twitter. “We are disappointed, but respect Disney’s decision not to have him continue as a lead producer of our next live action Spider-Man film. We hope this might change in the future, but understand that the many new responsibilities that Disney has given him – including all their newly added Marvel properties – do not allow time for him to work on IP they do not own. Kevin is terrific and we are grateful for his help and guidance and appreciate the path he has helped put us on, which we will continue.”

Much of this does not coalesce with yesterday’s reports that the disagreement was over the amount of financing and profit Disney had in future Spider-Man films, as opposed to it being over Feige not having enough time to contribute. Of course io9 was given an update from Sony that said “negotiations are ongoing,” and much of this continuing story has the air of negotiating in the press. It hasn’t helped Sony’s case that their stock immediately dropped following news of the Marvel split.

Two Spider-Man movies are currently in the works with star Tom Holland and director Jon Watts, and Feige will not be the lead producer of those movies as Marvel Studios will apparently no longer have any future involvement in the Spider-Man universe. The fallout comes after Sony turned down Disney’s offer that future Spider-Man movies be a 50/50 co-financing arrangement. In turn, Sony offered to keep the same arrangement under the current terms with Marvel receiving about 5% of first-dollar gross, and Disney rejecting the offer.

Earlier this year Avengers: Endgame (also featuring Spider-Man) became the highest-grossing film of all time, followed by Spider-Man: Far From Home surpassing Skyfall to become the highest-grossing film ever for Sony, both produced by Feige. Sources told the outlet that Sony feels “they will be fine” without Feige at the producing helm. Watts and Holland are part of the creative template for the upcoming Spider-Man films, along with producer Amy Pascal.

Sony’s upcoming slate includes the Venom sequel, starring Tom Hardy and directed by Andy Serkis, as well as Jared Leto’s Morbius, Kraven the Hunter, and a spinoff featuring Silver Sable and Black Cat.
