The 5 Best Shark Movies

The 5 best shark movies

Comingsoon.net was thrilled about this past weekend’s 47 Meters Down: Uncaged, so we’re marathoning some of the best shark movies to date. Check out our picks in the gallery below!

Sharks are so cool. Yeah, they’re terrifying, and yeah, they’re some of the ocean’s greatest predators, but they’re still cool. Why aren’t there more great movies about sharks? With the release of 47 Meters Down: Uncaged on the horizon, this question is absolutely worth asking. Is it because Discovery Channel’s Shark Week delivers plenty of real-live, non-fiction shark content to last all year? Is it because, no matter what, the film will probably end up getting compared to Jaws? Both of these things are likely true.

Still, more people should go out and try to make shark movies. Sharknado doesn’t count—they’re practically mocking sharks. We’re talking about real movies with real reverence for the sheer terror and strength of these animals. Someone who could churn one or two of those out would be destined to go down in history. Maybe they could lean on these shark movies for inspiration.

The novel, written by Lily Brooks-Dalton, follows the brilliant yet aging astronomer Augustine, who has lived in various remote outposts over the years studying the sky, but shortly after arriving at a new Arctic research center, news of a catastrophic event hits and despite the rest of the scientists evacuating, he chooses to remain and continue his work, in the process discovering a mysterious child named Iris as the radio waves go silent at the station.

Simultaneously, an astronaut named Sullivan is on her return flight home from Jupiter with the rest of her team, who are the first humans to travel this deep into space, which led to her having to leave her daughter behind and her marriage ending. IT Chapter One and IT Chapter Two Super Cut in the Works

Director Andy Muschietti is still tinkering with his epic follow-up to the blockbuster horror film IT and revealed to SFX Magazine that he is working on a super cut that will combine parts one and two into one long feature film. He is also working on another cut of Chapter Two that is based on his original director’s cut that was nearly four hours in length.

“The possibilities are open,” he said. “There’s a version where the two movies are cut together. There’s a version where there’s a special director’s cut of number one and a special director’s cut of number two. And I’m happy to basically work on every one of them.”

The outlet notes that none of these releases have been given the green light in terms of an official release, but given the popularity of the first film — not to mention the projected box office haul of the sequel — it’s more than likely the studio will release several versions of the movie as long as people are willing to buy them.

Twenty-seven years after the Losers Club defeated Pennywise, he has returned to terrorize the town of Derry once more. Now adults, the Losers have long since gone their separate ways. However, people are disappearing again, so Mike, the only one of the group to remain in their hometown, calls the others home. Damaged by the experiences of their past, they must each conquer their deepest fears to destroy Pennywise once and for all…putting them directly in the path of the shape-shifting clown that has become deadlier than ever.

The cast of IT: Chapter Two includes James McAvoy (X-Men franchise, Split) as Bill, Jessica Chastain (Crimson PeakThe Martian) as Beverly, Bill Hader (BarryTrainwreck) as Richie, Jay Ryan (Beauty and the Beast) as Ben and James Ransone (Generation Kill) as Eddie, with Andy Bean (Here and Now) as Stanely Uris, Isaiah Mustafa as Mike, Teach Grant (Altered CarbonDamnation) as Henry Bowers, Jess Weixler (The SonChained for Life) as Bill’s wife, Xavier Dolan (Boy Erased) as Adrian Mellon, Will Beinbrink (Queen of the South) as Tom Rogan and, of course, the return of Bill Skarsgård as the clown Pennywise.

Mindhunter Season 2 picked up right after with the OPR investigation still looming over the BSU and Holden waking up in the prison’s hospital.

Socializing

Bill, Nancy, and Brian went to Sunday mass. Afterwards, Nancy was hosting a barbecue at their house. She hoped to speak with some friends and network as a realtor. Bill manned the grill, and some of Nancy’s friends’ husbands joined him. He started to explain his job, and the men were fascinated and asked a lot of questions. Though she had asked Bill to socialize, she didn’t want him talking about his work.

He asked both of them to assure him that Holden wouldn’t be a problem for him. Ted wanted to expand the BSU and make their methods agency protocol.

When Holden came back, he went straight to meet with Ted. He was making the OPR investigation go away and would give them access to Charles Manson. Afterwards, Holden confronted Gregg. He had deduced that it was Gregg who anonymously sent the unedited tape. Ted broke up the meeting to show them their new, larger space.

Wendy advised him that it was up to him to monitor the signs. However, she did offer to listen if he needed to talk. Dr. Carr wanted to help him.

Retirement

Many of the agency’s higher ups had come in for Shepard’s retirement party. Though he’d acted as though he chose to retire to spend his days fishing, it became clear that the BSU was a sore spot for him. When Holden thanked him in a speech, Shepard walked out. Holden followed, and Shepard set him straight. He’d been forced to retire as a repercussion for Holden’s actions. The confrontation with Shepard sparked another panic attack.

Director Andy Muschietti is Planning on Editing Together Both IT Films Into a Supercut

director-andy-muschiettiis-planning-on-editing-together-both-it-films-into-a-supercut-social.jpg

Stephen King’s IT book is a pretty long story and to make sure to tell that story right on the big screen, it had to be split up into two separate films. Well, It looks like IT: Chapter 1 and IT: Chapter 2 will be edited together into a single supercut film by director Andy Muschietti.

While talking to SFX magazine (Via Games Radar) Muschietti revealed:

“There’s a version where the two movies are cut together. There’s a version where there’s a special director’s cut of number one and a special director’s cut of number two. And I’m happy to basically work on every one of them.”

While it’s going to be great to see IT: Chapter 2, now I’m excited that we’ll have a chance to see both films edited together into one! It’s be great if this supercut ended up getting a theatrical release at some point, but even if it doesn’t I’ll happily buy it.

There are no details on how the film will be cut together, but I hope that Muschietti uses the footage from both films and craftily cuts them together into a cohesive narrative just like King’s novel. I’d rather have that because it would be a very different viewing experience than just cutting the films back to back.

IT: Chapter Two opens on September 6th.
