Disney, Sony dispute ends Kevin Feige’s & Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man involvement

Deadline is reporting that after Disney and Sony Pictures failed to reach new terms, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige will not be producing any more Spider-Man films following a dispute between the two companies that has lasted for a few months.

The outlet notes that two Spider-Man movies are currently in the works with star Tom Holland and director Jon Watts, meaning Feige will not be the lead producer of those movies as Marvel Studios will apparently no longer have any future involvement in the Spider-Man universe.

The fallout comes after Sony turned down Disney’s offer that future Spider-Man movies be a 50/50 co-financing arrangement. In turn, Sony offered to keep the same arrangement under the current terms with Marvel receiving about 5% of first-dollar gross, and Disney rejecting the offer.

Earlier this year Avengers: Endgame became the highest-grossing film of all time, followed by Spider-Man: Far From Home surpassing Skyfall to become the highest-grossing film ever for Sony, both produced by Feige. Sources told the outlet that Sony feels “they will be fine” without Feige at the producing helm. Watts and Holland are part of the creative template for the upcoming Spider-Man films, along with producer Amy Pascal.

Sony’s upcoming slate includes the Venom sequel, starring Tom Hardy and directed by Andy Serkis, as well as Jared Leto’s Morbius, Kraven the Hunter, and a spinoff featuring Silver Sable and Black Cat.

Disney’s Publicity Stunt on Twitter gets a Clap Back from THE SIMPSONS

At this point it feels like Disney pretty much owns everything in the entertainment world. No one is prouder of that fact than the Mouse itself. So what do you do when you are on top of the world? Promote that shit. That is exactly what they tried to do with this Tweet:

See! They are loving themselves at the moment. Leave it to The Simpsons to bring their new boss down to size. They replied with this:

Essentially, it is a company making fun of itself. I know they are all different entities but they are all under the same umbrella. No one deleted it so they are taking it lightly.

Later this year the Disney+ bundle will roll out, and will include Hulu and ESPN+ for $12.99. Let us know what you think.

Matrix 4: Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss and Lana Wachowski Will Return!

Variety reports that a fourth live-action film in The Matrix franchise is happening! Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss will return as Neo and Trinity with Lana Wachowski set to write and direct the film.

“We could not be more excited to be re-entering the Matrix with Lana,” Warner Bros. Picture Group chairman Toby Emmerich said. “Lana is a true visionary — a singular and original creative filmmaker — and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in ‘The Matrix’ universe.”

Production on the film is scheduled to begin in early 2020, Wachowski co-wrote the script with Aleksander Hemon and David Mitchell.

“Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now. I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends,” Wachowski said.

Plot details on the film haven’t been revealed, and given the ending of 2003’s The Matrix Revolutions it’s not a clear cut answer.

Earlier this year we asked our readers if they were interested in more movies in the series, with 69% of those voting saying “Yes!” In a secondary poll, 58% said they wanted to see a continuation of the series. Looks like they’ll be getting what they wanted!

The original film in the series celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and will screen in Dolby theaters later this month.

Brian Oliver Developing Female Ensemble Comedy INWARD BOUND

bridesmaids.jpg

Producer Brian Oliver (Hacksaw Ridge, Rocket Man) and his company, New Republic Pictures, have announced that they will be developing the raunchy female-led ensemble comedy film Inward Bound. The script for the film was written by comedian Stefanie Kahn, and Variety reports the film will follow “a divorced mother’s trip to a ‘romance rehab’ staffed by hunky guides to service more than the women’s camping needs.”

The film is described as a mix between Girls Trip and Bridesmaids. I enjoyed both of those films, so I am willing to give this a try. I don’t typically like films that are gratuitous just for the sake of pushing boundaries though, so we will see how this film is handled.

As long as it has a good story, actors, and solid humor, I’m in. We are still a ways off from seeing this as it’s in very early stages, but does it sound like a film you’d be into? What funny actresses would you like to see cast?

HBO Has Renewed SUCCESSION For a Third Season

If you’re not watching Succession on HBO yet, you’ve gotta start! If you are, then you’ll be happy to learn that the series has been renewed for a third season! The news comes just two episodes into its second season, which means the cable network is happy with the show and the ratings that it’s bringing in.

Set in New York, Succession explores themes of power, politics, and family. Logan Roy (Brian Cox), the tough, powerful, aging patriarch, is head of Waystar Royco, a family controlled international media conglomerate. He is married to his third wife, Marcia (Hiam Abbass), a loving, formidable partner. Kendall Roy (Jeremy Strong), Logan’s eldest son from his second marriage, is currently a division president at the firm and the heir apparent. Roman Roy (Kieran Culkin), Kendall’s younger brother, is Logan’s outspoken, fun-loving son and no longer works at Waystar. Siobhan “Shiv” Roy (Sarah Snook), Logan’s only daughter and youngest child, has been pursuing a career in politics. Connor Roy (Alan Ruck), Logan’s eldest son, and only child from his first marriage, has pursued an independent life in New Mexico.

Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of HBO Drama Programming had this to say in a statement about the Jesse Armstrong-created series:

“We are elated that Succession and its exploration of wealth, power and family has resonated so powerfully with audiences. We cannot wait to see how the complex characters that Jesse Armstrong has created continue to navigate this captivating, ruthless world of the uber-rich. In today’s world where the intersection of politics and media is increasingly prevalent, ‘Succession’ presents an especially piercing look behind the curtain of this elite, influential, and cutthroat community.”

Succession is executive produced by Adam McKay, Frank Rich, Kevin Messick, Will Ferrell, Jane Tranter, Mark Mylod, Tony Roche, and Scott Ferguson.

What do you think about the series being renewed for Season 3?

Action-Packed New Gameplay Trailer For MARVEL’S AVENGERS Features The Whole Team in Action

While we all wait to see what the future of the MCU looks like, Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix has made a video game that centers on a whole new version of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. The game is called Marvel’s Avengers and we have an action packed 19-minute trailer showing off the awesome gameplay footage!

This footage was revealed at the Marvel Games panel at San Diego Comic-Con last month, but this is the first time it’s been officially released online. It features the whole team in action and those characters include Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, and Hulk.

Here are the details that have been revealed for the game:

Marvel’s Avengers begins at A-Day, where Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk, Black Widow, and Thor are unveiling a hi-tech Avengers Headquarters in San Francisco — including the reveal of their own helicarrier powered by an experimental energy source. The celebration turns deadly when a catastrophic accident results in massive devastation. Blamed for the tragedy, the Avengers disband. Five years later, with all Super Heroes outlawed and the world in peril, the only hope is to reassemble Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

Marvel Entertainment and Square Enix are excited to unveil Marvel’s Avengers, an epic action-adventure game that combines cinematic storytelling with single-player and co-operative gameplay.

A lot of fans seem put off by the game because it doesn’t match up with the movies. This game is a completely different beast, a different vision of these characters and I personally think it’s great that we are getting something different! Not everything that’s in the Marvel franchise has to be connected to the films. It’s great to see other creative people give us their own unique spin on the Marvel Universe and the characters that fill it.

The voice cast for the game includes Nolan North as Iron Man, Troy Baker as Bruce Banner, Laura Bailey as Black Widow, Jeff Schine as Captain America and Travis Willingham as Thor. The game looks like it could be a ton of fun and I’m excited about playing it!

Marvel’s Avengers will release simultaneously for the PlayStation4, the Xbox One family of devices including Xbox One X, Stadia, and PC on May 15th, 2020.

Universal’s Female Spy Thriller 355 Set for January 2021 Release Date

Universal Pictures has announced that the upcoming spy thriller 355 will be released in theaters on January 15, 2021. Directed by Simon Kinberg, the film stars Jessica Chastain, Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, Oscar winner Penélope Cruz, Diane Kruger (Inglourious Basterds) and Fan Bingbing (X-Men: Days of Future Past).  Kinberg co-wrote the script with Theresa Rebeck (NBC’s Smash, Trouble).

355 follows a group of top female agents from government agencies around the globe as they try to stop an organization from acquiring a deadly weapon to send the world into chaos. The film is produced by Chastain and Kelly Carmichael for Chastain’s Freckle Films and by Kinberg for his Genre Films. The film is executive produced by Richard Hewitt (Bohemian Rhapsody).

The film marks the second directorial effort from Simon Kinberg, who made his debut with Dark Phoenix, and who is well-known for writing three previous films in the X-Men franchise as well as co-writing 2009’s Sherlock Holmes, starring Robert Downey, Jr., and 2012’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, starring Benjamin Walker.

Chastain came up with the story idea and crafted it for the film, earning her a “Story by” credit. In an interview with Deadline, Chastain said she was inspired to come up with the story for the project in her time working on The Help, in which she loved working with the “female ensemble” and wanted to bring that environment back to life in the spy genre since Charlie’s Angels.

Chastain was also the driving force behind the cast in the film, having called all of them herself and offered the parts and receiving confirmations from all of them right away. The title, 355, comes from one of the very first spies in the United States during the American Revolution, who was also a woman, so Agent 355 has become slang for those in the CIA for a female spy, which Chastain learned while doing her research for 2012’s Zero Dark Thirty.

In earning her experience in the genre with the acclaimed biographical political thriller, Chastain has set a goal for making the film as authentic and grounded as possible for audience members who work in these agencies to view the film and see the realism in their portrayals, as well as avoiding the campy nature of some other genre entries, such as Angels.
