From Comics To Screen Teaser Trailer For Netflix’s Superhero Series JUPITER’S LEGACY

Netflix has released a new teaser trailer for its upcoming series adaptation of Mark Millar’s superhero comic series Jupiter’s Legacy. The teaser is titled “From Comics to Screen” and it features the characters from the comic created by artist Frank Quietly, being brought to life.

Jupiter’s Legacy is a multigenerational drama that follows the world’s first generation of superheroes, who received their powers in the 1930s. In the present day, they’re the revered elder guard, but their superpowered children struggle to live up to the legendary feats of their parents.

The series stars Josh Duhamel (Transformers) as Sheldon Sampson/The Utopian. He is the “storied leader of the superhero team The Union. But times have changed, and he doesn’t understand the world we live in anymore. Or his own family.”

Duhamel is joined by Ben Daniels as Walter Sampson/Brainwave, Leslie Bibb as Grace Sampson/Lady Liberty, Elena Kampouris as Chloe Sampson, Andrew Horton as Brandon Sampson/Paragon, Mike Wade as Fitz Small, and Matt Lanter as George Hutchene/Skyfox.

The project was created and executive produced by Steven S. DeKnight (Daredevil). He was originally attached to serve as the showrunner, but he dropped out due to creative differences. He ended up being replaced with Sang Kyu Kim.

Jupiter Legacy is scheduled to make its debut on May 7, 2021.

Julia Roberts and George Clooney Reuniting For Romantic Comedy TICKET TO PARADISE at Universal

oceans+julia+and+george.jpg

Julia Roberts and George Clooney are reuniting for the upcoming romantic comedy Ticket to Paradise. The pair originally played estranged husband and wife who reunited in the Ocean’s 11-13 movies, as well as co-starred in Jodie Foster’s Money Monster. Ol Parker (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again) will direct for Universal Pictures and Working Title.

In the film, “Clooney and Roberts will play a divorced couple that teams up and travels to Bali to stop their daughter from making the same mistake they think they made 25 years ago.”

This film is a big deal to the studio, as Universal has made it clear that they do not intend to sell the pic to a streamer, with this move hopefully leading more films back to theatres.

Ticket to Paradise is set to film later this year. Are you excited to see Roberts and Parker back together on the big screen?

The Jupiter’s Legacy comic series was first published by Image Comics in 2013. It followed The Utopian and Lady Liberty, who are the costumed aliases of Sheldon and Grace Sampson. After venturing to a mysterious island with a handful of their friends in 1932, they gained superhuman abilities and established themselves as the first generation of superheroes. They soon formed the Union of Justice. Years later, Sheldon and Grace had two children, Chloe and Brandon, who inherited their own set of powers. However, Chloe and Brandon also developed a cynical attitude toward superheroes and struggled to find their places in the shadow of their famous parents.

Tom & Jerry Scores Second-Best Opening Weekend During Pandemic

Tom & Jerry Scores Second-Best Opening Weekend During Pandemic

According to Deadline, Warner Bros.’ day and date release of Tom & Jerry pulled in $13.7M at 2,475 theaters, which was enough to put it at No. 2 on the list of best openings during the pandemic. Wonder Woman 1984’s $16.4M opening in December currently holds the crown, but with more theaters opening it’s likely we’ll see a steady increase in box office receipts. Globally, Tom & Jerry collected $38.8M, which is pretty good considering the current situation and also considering the Tim Story-directed family pic released simultaneously on HBO Max.

Critics weren’t too kind to the latest big-screen Tom & Jerry feature with only 25% of critics giving the film a positive review. Audiences, however, were much kinder and awarded the film an 82% on RT out of 250+ reviews and an A- Cinemascore. The hope, per Deadline, is that Tom & Jerry will enjoy a similar run to that of The Croods: A New Age, which crossed $52.3M this week in the United States and $156M worldwide.

Rounding out the Top 5 were holdovers The Little Things with $925K ($12.9M total) in its fifth weekend, Wonder Woman 1984 with $710K ($43.6M total) in Week 10 and The Marksman with $700K ($12.3M total) in Week 7.

INTERNATIONAL

The big movie to see over the weekend for international audiences was the time travel comedy Hi Mom, which earned 345M ($53.2M) over the weekend to lift its total to a staggering 4.82B RMB ($744M) making it the No. 3 biggest title ever in the Middle Kingdom. Maoyan is predicting an RMB 5.21B ($804M) finish for Hi Mom which would move it up to the No. 2 all-time slot.

Detective Chinatown 3 earned another RMB 128M ($19.8M) to bring its total to a colossal RMB 4.32B ($667M). That total propels DC3 into the Top 5 all-time list, bumping off Avengers: Endgame. It also means there are no U.S. titles on China’s all-time list.

IMAX

DC3 climbed to $35M at the Imax box office, 5.2% of the movie’s $667M China box office total to-date and is on pace to surpass 2019’s NE ZHA ($35.2M) to become the 2nd highest grossing local language title ever released in Imax.

Alibaba’s A Writer’s Odyssey earned $1.6M at the Imax box office, 13% of the nationwide weekend total for the movie, raising its cume to $7.8M, nearly 6% of the $139M nationwide cume.

Aniplex/Toho’s Demon Slayer also added $302K, lifting its Imax total to $27M.

This weekend finds Lionsgate’s Chaos Walking and Disney’s Raya & The Last Dragon releasing across the Imax global network.

Zack Snyder Releases New Justice League Mother Box Trailer

Zack Snyder Releases New Justice League Mother Box Trailer

We’re just weeks away from the HBO Max release of the highly anticipated Zack Snyder’s Justice League, which is a weird thing to write all things considered. Yet, here we are! And to keep the excitement levels maxed out, Snyder unveiled a new “Mother Box” trailer during IGN Fan Fest 2021. Check it out below!

RELATED: CS Soapbox: Zack Snyder’s Justice League is Already Better Than 2017’s

Justice League will be hitting HBO Max solely as a four-hour movie on March 18. It was originally revealed at DC FanDome that the movie will release on HBO Max in 2021 by being broken up into four one-hour parts that will also be released as one four-hour film, but will now solely be released as a one-off film instead of the four-part series. Snyder also revealed that there will be no after-credits scenes.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League has reportedly cost around $70 million in order to properly finish the editing and visual effects of the director’s original vision, as well as the additional photography. The original post-production crew is also expected to return along with the cast members to record additional dialogue for the cut.

Fueled by the hero’s restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Justice League sees Bruce Wayne enlist the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg, and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League, which features a screenplay from Chris Terrio from a story by Snyder and Terrio, stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, with J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon, and Amy Adams as Lois Lane.

Released in November 2017, the film earned mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike, praising the action and performances from Gadot and Miller while criticizing every other aspect of the film, namely the inconsistent tone that many fault Joss Whedon (The Avengers) for after taking over directorial duties from Snyder. With a large budget of $300 million and a break-even point of $750 million, the film is considered a box office bomb having grossed only $658 million.

The 2021 Golden Globes Winners List!

The 78th annual Golden Globes aired last night with long-time collaborators Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosting the event from different sides of the country. Like other award shows during this ongoing pandemic, the 2021 Golden Globes featured a mix of virtual and in-person appearances.

This year’s winners list both came with surprising and expected wins as the competition in most major categories proved to be strong and difficult to predict. The Golden Globes made history last night with Nomadland director Chloe Zhao winning her first Golden Globe for Best Director – Motion Picture which makes her the first Asian woman to win the coveted award as well as the second woman filmmaker to claim it over 30 years since Barbra Streisand’s groundbreaking win in 1983.

SPIRITED AWAY Is Being Adapted into a Stage Play

Spirited Away (original name Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi) is a cultural masterpiece. It’s a beautiful anime film from Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli that even many non-anime fans love. I personally believe that it helped the cultural shift in the U.S. in their attitude towards anime. Well, the amazing film is being adapted into a stage play. John Caird, honorary associate director of the Royal Shakespeare Company, is adapting and directing the show.

Chihiro, the heroine of the story, is a 10-year-old girl moving with her parents to their new home. They lose themselves in a mysterious world of fantastic spirits, ruled over by the sorceress Yubaba, who turns Chihiro’s parents into pigs. After a series of bizarre and dangerous challenges, including the loss of her identity, Chihiro must use all her wits to survive in this strange place and return to the human world. The story of her struggle and resilience is a timeless gift to all of us, but especially to those striving to live through these present difficult times.

Sharing his love and excitement for the film and this opportunity, Caird said:

I feel so excited and privileged to be working on the first ever stage adaptation of Sen to Chihiro. I have for many years now regarded Miyazaki Hayao as one of the pre-eminent geniuses of world cinema and the greatest ever proponent of the anime form.

I share a belief in all the most dominant themes of Miyazaki’s work, themes that are at the core of the Sen to Chihiro world – care for the environment, reverence for nature, a belief in the force of the good spirits within us and the empowerment of young women and men to change the world for the better.

I am looking forward with great pleasure to deepening my partnership with my dear friends at Toho through a new relationship with Studio Ghibli and Suzuki Toshi0, their most generous and inventive lead producer.

The double casting in the part of Chihiro will give me the chance to work again with the brilliant and charming Kamishiraishi Mone, with whom I had such an exciting collaboration on Knights’ Tale, and now affords me the same opportunity with the greatly talented, vivacious and moving young actress Hashimoto Kanna.

I must have spent a thousand hours working on Sen to Chihiro and look forward to spending many thousands more.

Toshio Suzuki shared that he and Miyazaki are fans of what’s in store:

We, Hayao and I, both liked John’s vision. He is a person we can trust. I am looking forward to seeing Chihiro grow on stage under his direction. I could tell how much he adores this story from his delighted face when I gave him a No-Face (Kaonashi) piggy-bank.

Kanna Hashimoto and Mone Kamishiraishi (Your Name) have been double-cast as Chihiro, but the rest of the cast seems to still be a mystery. Fans will be able to watch Spirited Away at Toho’s Imperial Theatre in Tokyo in February and March 2022 with the show then going on tour to Osaka (April), Fukuoka (May), Sapporo (June), Nagoya (June and July). I can’t imagine how cool this film could look as a stage play. Never underestimate the abilities of a stage crew.

Explanation of Why Evan Peters Was Used as Quicksilver in WANDAVISION and Wolverine Easter Egg Confirmed

When Evan Peters showed up as Pietro a.k.a. Quicksilver in WandaVision a lot of fans hoped that this was the first step in introducing Fox’s X-Men universe to the MCU. Well, that might not be the case! We still don’t really know what the hell is going on with this version of Quicksilver, but we do know that whoever he is or wherever he came from, he’s being controlled by the witch Agatha Harkness.

So, what is the reasoning behind casting Peters in the role instead of Aaron Taylor-Johnson? Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige explains that the decision to bring in Peters instead of Taylor-Johnson happened early in the development process of the series and they wanted this different version of the character to show how “certain people” are messing with Wanda.

During Disney+’s recent TCA presentation, Feige said:

“That’s one of the fun things about developing these things or blue-skying it in the rooms. My favorite part of the process is always the very, very beginning when we’re figuring out what something could be and at the very, very end when we’re refining it and putting it out into the world. So there were all sorts of discussions, but I believe we ended up going with what you saw relatively early on in the development process. It’s just another way that certain people were messing around with Wanda.”

It’s safe to say that there are more twists and turns coming in the series and we will have answers to a lot of our questions. I’m still eagerly waiting to see what Peters’ real role in this series is.

It was also confirmed that there was a Wolverine Easter egg that was included as part of Quicksilver’s Halloween costume. That Easter egg was Pietro’s hair. During WandaVision episode 6, “All-New Halloween Spooktacular!”, Pietro was wearing Quicksilver’s classic Marvel Comics costume and his hair was shooting up on the sides of his head.

WandaVision make-up artist Tricia Sawyer and hairstylist Karen Bartek confirmed that they did that on purpose, that was 100% supposed to be a Wolverine hairdo. According to Bartek these X-Men references were purposefully done to make it seem the two franchise universes were colliding. She told IndieWire:

“It was something that Matt really [wanted]. They kind of planned that.”

While I enjoy the X-Men teases, It’s not cool to play with the emotions of fans like that. Making us think that the two Marvel franchises were colliding and then purposely have nothing come from it? Not cool.

LOVECRAFT COUNTRY’s Jonathan Majors To Star in Spike Lee’s GORDON HEMINGWAY & THE REALM OF CTHULHU

Lovecraft Country star Jonathan Majors is in talks to star in Spike Lee and Stefon Bristol’s Netflix project Gordon Hemingway & The Realm of Cthulhu. If Majors isn’t careful, he’ll be typecast as the actor who only faces off with Lovecraftian creatures in the projects he makes.

Majors will take on the role of Gordon Hemingway and it will be the second time that he and Lee have worked together. They also worked together on Netflix’s Da 5 Bloods.

The story is set in East Africa in 1928 and centers on Hemingway, “a roguish Black American gunslinger, who teams up with the elite warrior Princess Zenebe of Ethiopia to rescue the country’s kidnapped regent from an ancient evil.”

The cool-sounding new adventure film will be produced by Lee and directed by Stefon Bristol (See You Yesterday), and it’s based on an original screenplay by Hank Woon, with rewrites by Fredrica Bailey.

Majors will next be seen in Netflix’s upcoming Western The Harder They Fall, starring opposite Idris Elba, Regina King, Zazie Beetz and LaKeith Stanfield. Majors will also take on the role of Kang the Conqueror in Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, from director Peyton Reed.
