Let’s Talk About WANDAVISION Episode 8 – “Previously On”

In this most recent episode of WandaVision, titled “Previously On,” Wanda embarks on a troubling journey through her traumatic past offering insight into her present and future and how she came to be where she is at.

In the previous episode, we learned that Agatha Harkness, a witch, was responsible for a lot of different and weird things that have been happening in Westview. But she isn’t the cause of it. It turns out that she was just using her powers to try and get information from Wanda, find out who she is and the kind of power that she wields. Agatha wants to know how she created the barrier around Westfield.

Once Wanda is in her creepy basement, Agatha takes Wanda on a journey through her past find the answers to her questions, and once she gets them, things go to another level. Agatha learns that Wanda is wielding, what she calls “chaos magic” and that she is capable of “spontaneous creation,” and “that makes you the Scarlet Witch.”

This is the first time that name is uttered in the MCU! This is the moment that fans have been waiting for. Agatha isn’t happy about this newfound information, and in the final scene, she is holding Billy and Tommy around their necks with her own magical abilities in front of Wanda. All of these characters are feeling all kinds of crazy and confusing mixed emotions at this moment.

There are two ways this can go, either Agatha wants this power for herself, or she wants to wipe this power from the face of the earth. We learn Agatha’s backstory that she comes from Salem, Massachusetts, in 1693, where Agatha’s coven accused her of tapping into forbidden dark magic.

In the flashback, the coven is led by Agatha’s mother, Evanora, and the coven tries to destroy her, but Agatha turns their power back against them, sucking the life out of them. Agatha pleads that she can be good, but her mom says she can’t and doubles down on trying to destroy her daughter. It doesn’t work and in the end, Agatha kills her mom and all of the witches.

Agatha ends up taking her mom’s brooch, which we’ve seen her wearing in most of the previous episodes. The fact that she pleads with her mom that she can be good makes me think that maybe Agatha does really want to be good and do the right thing by wiping Wanda power from the planet, but we’ll see.

We still don’t really know what is going on with Pietro. Agatha says fake Pietro, or Fietro, wasn’t “literally” her, she was just possessing him. She also notes that it wasn’t necromancy, so Pietro isn’t the original MCU Pietro’s body with a new face. This is a whole new person, so there’s still a chance that this could be Quicksilver from another universe. Wanda’s status as a Nexus Being does mean that she can tap into other realities.

As the journey through Wanda’s past, it starts off with Wanda and Pietro’s Sokovian childhood home. We also meet her parents, Iryna and Olek. This is set in 199 and as they are enjoying The Dick Van Dyke Show, there’s a huge explosion that kills her parents. This incident is referenced in Avengers: Age of Ultron. We see young Wanda and Peitro trapped under the rubble starring at a Stark Industries shell that didn’t explode. The young Wanda mutters about it being a “bad dream” and reaches out. Agatha says that she used a probability hex to stop the detonation, which may have been Wanda’s first use of magic.

In another moment, we see Wanda being used as a test subject for Hydra, and enters a room containing Loki’s scepter, which contains the Mind Stone. In this scene, Wanda has a vision of herself in her classic Scarlet Witch costume. This could mean a few different things, is this a vision of herself, or is she seeing her comic book counterpart? Another version of her? Again, as a Nexus being, Wanda could reach out to another version of herself from an alternate reality.

It was previously believed that the Mind Stone gave her and Pietro their powers, but Agatha believes that it actually supercharged the abilities she already had.

I also just want to point out that when the Hydra scientists go to play back the security footage to see what happened when Wanda touched the stone, they find that moment missing. It was wiped out in the same way that sections of the Westview broadcast were wiped out.

The next moment that Wanda jumps to is set in the Avengers compound after the events of Age of Ultron. Wanda is mourning Pietro’s death and Vision comes in and acknowledges that he’s never felt loss like she has but reveals the depth of his empathy, saying, “But what is grief, if not love persevering?”

We then learn the truth about how Wanda’s Westview was created. We initially thought that Wanda broke into SWORD headquarters, stole Vision’s body, and defied his wishes by resurrecting him. In this flashback, we see that Hayward purposefully exposed Wanda to the shocking sight of Vision being dismantled. He also suggested to her that she could bring him back to life, but she refused and ended up leaving, alone, without Vision.

After she leaves the SWORD facility, Wanda is driving through the town of Westview. This is the first time we are seeing the town in its normal state before Wanda took it over. And make no mistake, Wanda is the one behind it all! But she was pushed to it by Hayward.

Wanda finds herself at a plot of land with the foundations of a house that had once been there. She also has a deed that reveals she and Vision planned to start a life together here. There’s a note from Vision that reads, “To grow old in.” Wanda is overcome with grief and despair, and it’s in this state that she rebuilds the town as a ’50s sitcom and Vision is reborn from her powerful energy. This is something that Hayward was obviously hoping for all along.

There’s also an end credits sequence that was thrown into this one showing us what Hayward has been up to. It’s revealed that SWORD had Vision’s body all this time and they were looking for a way to reactivate it! The way he did this was by using a drone to absorb Wanda’s chaos energy surrounding Westview. You see, since that energy was derived from the Mind Stone that originally brought Vision to life, this energy manages to bring Vision’s actual body back online, and that can’t be good.

This was such a wonderful episode. Not only was it filled with lots of cool stuff and information, but it was also filled with emotion. It was heartbreaking to see Wanda’s tragic life bring her to such rock bottom grief.

As for the Mephisto theory, I’m totally convinced that he has nothing to do with anything here in this story. I also want to point out that this is the first episode that didn’t have a “Please Stand By” message in the end credits.

The Terminator anime series in development at Netflix

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix has partnered up with Skydance to develop a brand new anime series based on James Cameron’s sci-fi action film franchise The TerminatorThe Batman co-writer Mattson Tomlin is attached to executive produce. This marks Tomlin and the streamer’s latest collaboration after working together on last year’s superpowers film Project Power, which starred Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

“Anyone who knows my writing knows I believe in taking big swings and going for the heart,” Tomlin said in a statement. “I’m honored that Netflix and Skydance have given me the opportunity to approach Terminator in a way that breaks conventions, subverts expectations and has real guts.”

The long-running Terminator franchise started with James Cameron’s 1984 The Terminator which featured Arnold Schwarzenegger as a cyborg assassin tasked to go back to the past to kill Linda Hamilton’s Sarah Connor due to her future part in the salvation of mankind. This film has launched Schwarzenegger into a pop culture icon, making him a full-fledged action star.

The original was then followed by Terminator 2: Judgment Day which was the most popular installment due its box office and critical success. It also won five out of six Oscars nominations including Best Cinematograhy and Best Film Editing. The latest installment was last 2019’s Terminator: Dark Fate featuring the return of the Schwarzenegger and Hamilton. However, it underperformed in the box office and wasn’t able to meet expectations.

Zack Snyder Says Justice League Ends On a “Massive Cliffhanger”

Zack Snyder says Justice League ends on a “Massive Cliffhanger”

During the terrific IGN Fan Fest 2021, director Zack Snyder stopped by to talk about his upcoming cut of Justice League, titled Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and revealed some really interesting details about the project. Most notably, the director teased that the film ends on a “massive cliffhanger” and that he’s open to come back to make more Justice League films, but (again) says more films may not happen unless HBO Max is willing to continue. In other words, fans … if you want more, get out there and show your support!

“Well, it was meant to be two more movies,” Snyder said.“[This movie] doesn’t really encompass any of the additional movies other than little… It hints, as you would, at a potential other world. I’d plant the seeds as I had wanted to of what would come in the later films. That’s in there, but as far as those stories, that would be to come if ever that happened – which it does not look like it would.”

Snyder also revealed that the film is 100% complete and the final runtime is 4 hours and 2 minutes, including end credits. On top of this, he also said that the film is divided into six-chapters and even revealed the first two chapter names: Chapter 1 — “Don’t Count On It Batman” and Chapter 2 — “The Age of Heroes.” There were discussions to turn the film into an episodic TV release, but that element “got complicated.” As such, the chapters maintain the film’s structure but also serve as a means for viewers to take a break and recharge.

The interview with Snyder was packed with a lot of additional content about the project, which you can explore here, including more details about the black and white version of the film, dubbed “Justice is Gray,” but the most exciting was his proclamation that this version of Justice League will stand as his definitive vision of the film and that it “fills in a couple of impossible gaps that I thought were never going to see the light of day.”

Good times, folks. Good times.

Justice League will be hitting HBO Max solely as a four-hour movie on March 18. It was originally revealed at DC FanDome that the movie will release on HBO Max in 2021 by being broken up into four one-hour parts that will also be released as one four-hour film, but Snyder’s new comments seem to indicate it will solely be released as the one-off film instead of the four-part series. In an informal Q&A with the director via the comments, Snyder also revealed that there will be no after-credits scenes, the release date is still set for March even as potential competition Godzilla vs. Kong just moved to the same month and its runtime is four hours prior to the credits.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League has reportedly cost around $70 million in order to properly finish the editing and visual effects of the director’s original vision, as well as the additional photography. The original post-production crew is also expected to return along with the cast members to record additional dialogue for the cut.

Fueled by the hero’s restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Justice League sees Bruce Wayne enlist the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg, and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League, which features a screenplay from Chris Terrio from a story by Snyder and Terrio, stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, with J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon, and Amy Adams as Lois Lane.

Released in November 2017, the film earned mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike, praising the action and performances from Gadot and Miller while criticizing every other aspect of the film, namely the inconsistent tone that many fault Joss Whedon (The Avengers) for after taking over directorial duties from Snyder. With a large budget of $300 million and a break-even point of $750 million, the film is considered a box office bomb having grossed only $658 million.

The epic action-adventure Godzilla vs. Kong will pit two of the greatest icons in motion picture history against one another — the fearsome Godzilla and the mighty Kong — with humanity caught in the balance.

The film stars Alexander Skarsgård (Big Little LiesThe Little Drummer Girl), Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things), Rebecca Hall (Christine, Professor Marston and the Wonder Women), Brian Tyree Henry (AtlantaWidows), Shun Oguri (Gintama), Eiza González (Baby Driver), Jessica Henwick (Iron Fist), and Julian Dennison (Deadpool 2). Also starring in the highly-anticipated movie are Kyle Chandler (The Wolf of Wall StreetManchester by the Sea) and Demián Bichir (The Nun, The Hateful Eight).

The fourth installment in Warner Bros.’ Pictures and Legendary’s Monsterverse is directed by Adam Wingard from a script written by Oscar nominee Terry Rossio (Pirates of the CaribbeanDeja VuShrek). The film is being produced by Mary Parent, Alex Garcia, Eric McLeod, and Brian Rogers, with Kenji Okuhira, Yoshimitsu Banno, Jon Jashni and Thomas Tull serving as executive producers. Jay Ashenfelter, Jen Conroy and Tamara Kent are co-producers.

The most recent film in Legendary’s MonsterVerseGodzilla: King of the Monsters, hit theaters last summer. It ended with Godzilla taking his rightful place as the ruler of all Titans. Unfortunately, the movie was a financial disappointment, grossing only $385.9 million against a budget estimated to be as high as $200 million.

Godzilla vs. Kong was originally set to hit theaters in May 2020 (before the global pandemic) and then on November 20, 2020. Now, the film is set to hit theaters and HBO Max simultaneously on March 31.

Christian Bale is Teaming Up With Director Scott Cooper For THE PALE BLUE EYE

Christian Bale and director Scott Cooper are teaming up again for their third feature film together, which will be titled The Pale Blue Eye. The movie is an adaptation of the Louis Bayard novel of the same name and Cooper is also writing the script.

The story is a thriller that “revolves around the attempt to solve a series of murders that took place in 1830 at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.” Bale will take on the role of a veteran detective who investigates these murders, and he’s helped by a detail-oriented young cadet who will later become a world-famous author, Edgar Allan Poe.

This sounds like a great project for Bale and Cooper to be a part of and the story has the potential to make for a fascinating murder mystery. Cooper said in a statement:

“Even though Edgar Allan Poe was born in Boston and died, delirious, in Baltimore, the majority of his life was spent in Virginia, my home state. So I grew up with his presence. He bequeathed us the detective genre, and he’s still such a presence in our culture, with every horror, mystery and science fiction writer indebted to Poe. This is my attempt at a large-canvas whodunit, with a serial killer at its center. I want to make films that push me into a different, maybe uncomfortable space, but I am glad to have Christian go there with me. I’ve wanted to make this for over a decade and fortunately for me, Christian has perfectly aged into the lead character. He was far too young when I first thought of making this. Films are meant to happen at the right time. Christian is always in high demand, but to be able to make this with him will be such a joy for me.”

Bale will also produce the film along with Cooper, and the plan is to shoot the movie in the fall. Cooper and Bale previously worked together on the films Out of the Furnace and Hostiles. Cooper most recently wrapped the Guillermo del Toro-produced horror film Antlers for Fox Searchlight.

Tom Holland Says He Worried More About the Way He Looked in UNCHARTED Than His Acting

It seems like Tom Holland is concerned about his performance as Nathan Drake in the upcoming Uncharted movie. He says was because he was more worried about the way he looked than he was about acting. He discussed his concerns and mistakes and shared what he learned from them in an interview with GQ saying:

“As soon as you start worrying about ‘Do I look good in this shot?’ acting becomes something other than playing a character. I think there are elements of my performance in Uncharted where I kind of fell under that spell of being ‘I want to look good now. I want this to be my cool moment.’ I had to play this very tough, very stoic guy – basically be Mark Wahlberg. My character is supposed to be a fucking action hero in this moment!”

Holland goes on to say that maybe he did a better job of pulling off the job of playing Nathan Drake than he gives himself credit for:

“Look, I haven’t seen it, so I don’t know if I succeeded in that. But it was an important lesson learned, because, at times, it was less about land a mark and go through this scene and more about land a mark, stand like this and see my bulging biceps… It was a mistake and is something that I will probably never do again.”

While I like Holland as an actor and think he’s talented, it’s just really hard to see him in the role of Nathan Drake. I never really thought that he could actually bring the “very tough, very stoic” aspects of Nathan Drake to life on the big screen.

The movie is set to tell the story of a young Nathan Drake before he becomes the badass treasure hunter from the game. Nathan Drake is known for his adventures across the world as he uncovers various historical mysteries. Sully is his mentor and is being played by Mark Wahlberg.

Ruben Fleischer (Venom) is directing the film from a script by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. The film also stars Antonio Banderas, Sophia Ali, and The 100 actor Tati Gabrielle. The Uncharted movie hits theaters on July 16th, 2021.
