Dwayne Johnson Teases “Champion of the People” Black Adam Image

The DC Extended Universe will soon welcome Black Adam among its members. While the movie featuring the popular antihero won’t hit theaters before next year, there is a lot of hype surrounding him. Part of the anticipation is because former WWE champion Dwayne Johnson is portraying the titular hero. Johnson is currently promoting the movie on his socials since he is also producing it. Not long ago, he revealed that the script is paying homage to Johnny Cash. More recently, the actor showed a new on-set image and spent a few words to describe the “champion of the people” that he’s going to play. Interestingly, Johnson’s nickname was the “People’s Champion” when he was in WWE (via SuperHeroHype).

“If you know the comic book mythology, then you know where his pain comes from,” he wrote. “His rage. His wife and children killed. His people brutally enslaved. He is not a superhero, but rather a champion. Champion of the poor and beaten down. Champion of the people. And he is the most unstoppable force in the DC UNIVERSE.”

Apparently, Johnson is referring to Black Adam‘s modern origin story, where he is a warrior from Kahndaq, a fictional North African nation that is conquered by Ahk-Ton, a priest who lived under the reign of Ramses II. And while the Egyptian troops are sacking Kahndaq, Adam loses his family, which leads him to embrace the dark side of his powers.

Black Adam will debut in theaters on July 29, 2022.

Dwayne Johnson is currently in the middle of shooting his epic DC film project Black Adam, and he recently shared a couple of new behind-the-scenes photos from the set. One photo was taken from inside one of the sound stages that the film is being shot in, and Johnson wanted to give fans a sense of the scale of the film. He said:

“BLACK ADAM update. Wanted to show you guys this cool shot of our enormous scale and massive production efforts at our sound stages. Zoom in and take a look We’re hitting our midway point stride and our A-Team production crew continue to showcase why they’re the best in our industry. This is one inspiring production to be on. Post covid and back to work. The hierarchy of power in the DC UNIVERSE is about to change,” Johnson wrote. You can check out the epic photo in the post below:

The other photo features the actor wearing a cloak and standing in the shadows.

Johnson will be joined in the film by Aldis Hodge (Underground, The Invisible Man) as Hawkman, Noah Centineo (To All the Boys I Love Before, Charlie’s Angels) as Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell (Trinkets, Euphoria) as Cyclone, Pierce Brosnan (GoldenEye, Mamma Mia!) as Doctor Fate, and Sarah Shahi (Person of Interest, The L Word), Marwan Kenzari (The Old Guard, Aladdin), and Uli Latukefu (Young Rock) has been cast in an unspecified role.

There are no story details to share, but Johnson previously showed off the script for the movie saying:

“I wanted to show you the opening page to my script – which I look at every time I open this. I’ve memorized these words for years and years and years now. But it gives you guys an example of who Black Adam is – and who Black Adam is to the world of the DC Universe. But also, I think, who Black Adam is to the world of superhero universes period.

“And that is the DC Universe – but that also includes the Marvel superhero universe too. Now look, I’m not saying there’s going to be a mashup, I’m not saying that. But what I am saying, is that it doesn’t matter to me – and it doesn’t matter to Black Adam: You put ’em all on notice – whether their DC Universe or part of the Marvel Universe – they all get put on notice now.”

Jaume Collet-Serra (Jungle Cruise) is directing Black Adam, the most recent script of which was written by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani. Adam Sztykiel wrote the previous draft.

The movie will be released on July 29th, 2022.

Timothée Chalamet Cast as Willy Wonka in WB’s Charlie & the Chocolate Factory Prequel

Ahead of the highly-anticipated theatrical release of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, it looks like Timothée Chalamet has found his next big role in the form of Warner Bros. Pictures’ upcoming Wonka movie. According to Deadline, Chalamet has officially signed on for the iconic leading role as Willy Wonka in the studio’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory prequel film. His casting comes after it was reported earlier this year that he and Spider-Man: No Way Home star Tom Holland were both being considered for the role.

This project would mark the first time that the Oscar-nominated actor will be able to sing and dance on-screen due to the musical numbers expected to be featured in the prequel. Chalamet will be succeeding Johnny Depp, who famously portrayed the character in Tim Burton’s 2005 version. Interestingly, the 25-year-old actor previously took on the role of the son of Depp’s Edward Scissorhands named Edgar in a recent Super Bowl car commercial

Based on the character created by Roald Dahl, Wonka, will focus on a young Willy Wonka and his adventures prior to opening the world’s most famous chocolate factory. This also marks the first Charlie and the Chocolate Factory adaptation which will not feature Charlie Bucket, which was previously portrayed by Freddie Highmore.

The project has been in development since 2016, with Paddington‘s Paul King attached to direct from a screenplay he co-wrote with Simon Farnaby, based on the script by Simon Rich, Simon Stephenson, Jeff Nathanson, and Steven Levenson. Producers are Luke Kelly, and David Heyman through his Heyday Films, with Michael Siegel serving as a producer.

Wonka is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on March 17, 2023.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has been twice adapted for the big screen, including a hit 2005 version — also released by Warners — starring Johnny Depp and directed by Tim Burton, and most famously as 1971’s Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory starring Gene Wilder in his most iconic role. Both adaptations were produced by Warner Bros. Pictures.

No direct feature adaptation has been made of Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator (though elements of it were used in both films), and Dahl was developing a third Wonka book titled Charlie in the White House before he passed away in 1990.

Timothée Chalamet Officially Set To Play Willy Wonka in WB’s WONKA

A few months ago we learned that Timothée Chalamet (Dune) and Tom Holland (Spider-Man) were up for the role of Willy Wonka in Warner Bros. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory prequel film, Wonka, which will give us the origin story for the insane candy maker.

Well, Timothée Chalamet has officially been cast in the role! The new film is based on the classic characters created by Roald Dahl and the story will focus on a young Willy Wonka and his adventures prior to opening the world’s most famous chocolate factory.

Chalamet will get to show off his singing and dancing skills in the film as there are several musical numbers being planned. Gene Wilder will always be the best version of Wonka, but Chalamet is a talented young actor and I’m curious to see what he does in bringing this younger version of the character to life. It will be interesting to see if he will actually be able to tap into that insane and witty madness that Wilder brought to Wonka.

The film will be directed by Paul King (Paddington) from a screenplay he wrote with Simon Farnaby. The script for the film was also previously worked on by Simon Rich, Simon Stephenson, Jeff Nathanson and Steven Levenson. David Heyman is producing.

What do you think about Chalamet taking on the role of Willy Wonka?

All they’re doing is giving things labels, giving inaccurate names to things that are infinite and unknowable. This is your name. This is your house. This is your language. This is your job.
