Everyone Deserves Another Chance in Action-Packed Noir SECOND CHANCES

second_chances#1.jpg

Writer Ricky Mammone is teaming up with artist Max Bertolini (The Witcher) to bring comic fans a new series called Second Chances. The series is described as an action-packed noir that talks about the need for second chances. I’m interested to see how this theme is explored.

Second Chances Hotline—call now and get a new identity! All you need is some cash, a proper referral, and a very good reason to start over. When Leblanc, the man behind the hotline, is approached by a shady figure from his past, he’s forced to accept a new client who doesn’t meet any of the requirements—a client with chemically induced amnesia in desperate need of protection.

Talking about Second Chances, Mammone said:

Second Chances is a bizarre noir about how we can let mistakes define us. I think nowadays we forget that it’s very human to mess things up. With this series, we want to ask the questions what’s worth forgiving and most importantly, can we give ourselves a second chance?

Bertolini added:

Second Chances involved me like a vivid, dark and psychedelic dream. The deeper I went into the pages, the more the pages seemed to draw themselves, as if endowed with a powerful will of their own. It is like love, violence, perdition and rebirth shackled and injected into every page, every frame.

You can read Second Chances #1 on August 18 from Image Comics.

Zack Snyder Has Reworked His STAR WARS Samurai Film Into its Own Separate Project

zack-snyder-has-reworked-his-star-wars-samurai-film-into-its-own-separate-project.jpg

Years ago it was reported that director Zack Snyder was developing a Star Wars samurai movie for Lucasfilm. The concept was loosely be based on Akira Kurosawa’s 1954 classic film, Seven Samurai, with the ronin and katana being replaced by the Force-wielding Jedi Knights who embark on a mission.

The project was being planned as a stand-alone film that was set sometime after the events of Star Wars: Episode VI. It was actually a pretty cool concept, but that project never ended up going anywhere. So, the filmmaker went ahead and reworked the concept into a separate non-Star Wars project.

On a recent episode of Happy Sad Confused podcast, Snyder offered an update on the project saying:

“Yeah, we talked about it, but it never…I’ve been working on it, just away from the Star Wars universe, just on my own as a sci-fi thing. It’s still a sci-fi thing, it’s the same story, it’s just kind of – let Star Wars be Star Wars. And the 11-year-old me still wants to make that. Now I just know how to, so maybe we’ll see that someday.”

Snyder was then asked if his original Star Wars pitch original pitch involved pre-established characters and this was his response:

“My idea was just: give me the keys and I’ll take her for a spin…it was that sort of middle Star Wars time, after they had done the prequels and before the sale. I was just like, ‘You know what? I can fix that.’”

I’m curious to learn more about this project and I hope that Snyder actually gets to make it. I’d love to see what he’s come up with. Star Wars or not, I love a good Samurai movie!

Our First Look at RADIANT BLACK #5 with Eduardo Ferigato and Natália Marques Making the Issue Bigger

radiant_black#5.jpg

We recently found out that artist Eduardo Ferigato (Trials of Ultraman) and colorist Natália Marques are joining Kyle Higgins and Marcelo Costa to tackle the supersized Radiant Black #5 that wraps up the first story arc in the phenomenal comic series. Now, we have a look at the work that these amazing artists are contributing thanks to Image Comics. The comic just feels so huge in this preview and I love it. Talking about bringing in Ferigato and Marques, Higgins said:

I’ve been working with Eduardo and Natália on different projects for quite some time now. In fact, I first met Marcelo… when he was coloring Eduardo’s work. With the big twist at the end of issue 4, we knew we wanted to give the issue the space it needed to properly deal with the fallout. Eduardo is one of the best storytellers I’ve ever worked with, and as you’ll see in the below pages, has quite the flair for Cosmically Powered Action, rendered in beautiful contrasting palettes, by Natália. This issue has some more big twists and turns, and will be ramping straight into our big issue 6 Radiant Red spotlight. Trust me, after issue 5, you’ll definitely want to know his story.

Here’s the synopsis for Radiant Black #5:

Radiant Black #5 concludes the first story arc of the series—and yet Radiant Red is still out there at large. Red needs to be stopped before anyone else gets hurt. But after the events of last issue left Lockport—and the world—reeling, is Radiant Black up to the task? And will he be in this fight alone?

I cannot wait to read Radiant Black #5 on June 16!
