Blumhouse's Zac Efron-Led Firestarter Remake Begins Production

Blumhouse Productions took to Twitter to confirm that production on Universal Pictures’ upcoming Firestarter remake has finally begun after 37 years since the theatrical release of 1984’s Drew Barrymore-led version. Based on Stephen King’s classic horror sci-fi thriller novel of the same name, the project will be led by Zac Efron (The Greatest Showman) and Michael Greyeyes (Fear the Walking Dead).

The filming start also came with the release of the first behind-the-scenes footage from the Firestarter remake set which you can check out below, featuring an unidentified person walking while he’s on fire.

Firestarter centers on an organization called the Department of Scientific Intelligence, aka “The Shop.” Two participants in their mysterious research program end up getting married and having a child. Their offspring, Charlie McGee, inherited pyrokinetic powers from her parents, who were given a low-grade hallucinogen called “Lot Six” during their college years. Now the government is trying to apprehend the young Charlie in order to harness her powerful and unique skills as a weapon.

The remake will see Zac Efron portraying the role of Andy McGee, a character previously portrayed by Golden Globe nominee David Keith. While, Michael Greyeyes has been cast to play John Rainbird, described as a relentless and powerful man who has been pushed into a violent life. The character was previously portrayed by George C. Scott in the first adaptation of the novel.

The Firestarter remake will be directed by up-and-coming filmmaker Keith Thomas (The Vigil) from a screenplay written by Scott Teems. It hails from Universal Pictures, Blumhouse, and Weed Road Productions, with Jason Blun and Akiva Goldsman set as producers. It will be executive produced by the original film’s associate producer Martha De Laurentiis.

Exciting Trailer For The Second Season of The Great and Creepy Horror Series EVIL

exciting-trailer-for-the-second-season-of-the-great-and-creepy-horror-series-evil.jpg

Paramount+ has dropped the first trailer for Evil Season 2 and it looks like we’re in for another fantastic and creepy season! I loved the first season of this show, and if you haven’t watched it yet, you’ve got to check it out! I held off on watching the first season for awhile, but when I did finally sit down to watch it, it ended up being so much better than I expected it to be.

Evil examines the origin of evil, “exploring the phenomenon along the lines of science and religion.” The story centers on forensic psychologist Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers), “who joins soon-to-be Catholic priest David (Mike Colter) and contractor Ben (Aasif Mandvi) to investigate the church’s mysterious happenings and determine if there is a logical explanation, or if it traces back to the supernatural.”

The second season of the series will follow Kristen as she “struggles to confront the dark side of herself after killing a man, David is met with temptation and Ben’s night terrors prey on his greatest fears.”

Evil Season 2 is set to premiere on Paramount+ on June 20 and it consists of 13-episodes. The series also stars Michael Emerson, Christine Lahti, Kurt Fuller, Brooklyn Shuck, Skylar Gray, Maddy Crocco and Dalya Knapp.

Watch the teaser for Season 2 of “Evil” below.

Creepy Trailer For Shudder’s Strange Dark Irish Horror Thriller CAVEAT

Shudder has released a trailer for its interesting and strange Irish mystery horror-thriller Caveat. The movie was written and directed by Damian Mc Carthy, who is making his feature directorial debut after making a number of short films. It looks like he made one hell of a creepy horror flick with some fun horror imagery, especially that rabbit drummer thing… what the hell!?

In the film, “Lone drifter Isaac (Jonathan French) accepts a job to look after his landlord’s niece, Olga (Leila Sykes), for a few days in an isolated house on a remote island. It seems like easy money, but there’s a catch: he must wear a leather harness and chain that restricts his movements to certain rooms. Once Olga’s uncle leaves the two of them alone, a wild game of cat and mouse ensues as Olga displays increasingly erratic behavior as a trapped Isaac makes a series of horrific discoveries in the house.”

The movie also stars Leila Sykes and Ben Caplan and the movie will debut on Shudder this summer on June 3rd.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt (500 Days of Summer, Inception) is set to star in the Showtime series Super Pumped, based on the bestselling book Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber. Gordon-Levitt will play Travis Kalanick, “Uber’s hard-charging CEO who was ultimately ousted in a boardroom coup.”

“The series will depict the roller-coaster ride of the upstart transportation company, embodying the highs and lows of Silicon Valley. Even amid the radical upheaval generated within the global tech capital, Uber stands out as both a marvel and a cautionary tale, featuring internal and external battles that ripple with unpredictable consequences.”

The show was first ordered as a limited series, but will now be an anthology series, where each season “will explore a story that rocked the business world to its core and changed culture.” It is being made by Billions co-creators Brian Koppelman and David Levien.

This sounds like an interesting story, and JGL always brings it, so I am looking forward to checking it out.

Adam Wingard Set to Direct Robert Kirkman’s HARDCORE for Universal Pictures

adam-wingard-set-to-direct-robert-kirkmans-hardcore-for-universal-pictures.jpg

Godzilla vs. Kong director Adam Wingard has signed on to direct a feature film adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s (The Walking Dead, Invincible) comic book Hardcore, which he created with Marc Silvestri (Cyber Force, Rise of the Magi).

Hardcore is an action/sci-fi thriller that follows “a soldier’s journey as he saves the world without getting his hands dirty.” Here’s a more detailed story description from the comic:

Imagine being able to take over the body of anyone on Earth. Sound crazy? Not for Agent Drake and the Hardcore Program. They can turn any person into a human drone to get to targets that normal soldiers can’t. Drake is the best soldier Hardcore has to offer. But when he gets stranded in a body with only 72 hours to discover who’s hijacked the Program, he’ll have to pull out all the stops against an enemy who could be literally anyone.

Wingard is not only directing the film, but also co-writing with Will Simmons, who wrote reboots for Sleepy Hollow and Internal Affairs. He also has adapted Day Men for Universal and Boom Studios.

Wingard is also currently developing a ThunderCats film and a sequel to Face/Off. The filmmaker is keeping himself busy. Hopefully, these new film projects end up being better than his more recent projects. Hardcore definitely sounds like it could be a cool flick!

Bandai Namco Dates Family Trainer Switch Workout Game

family trainer switch release date

With the Nintendo Switch’s Ring Fit Adventure being one of the hottest selling gaming items of recent years, you would have expected the home workout/gaming crossover floodgates to have been opened.

Surprisingly, that largely hasn’t happened aside from Fitness Boxing, but one title that wants to turn us into a sweaty mess is Bandai Namco’s Family Trainer for Switch, which the company has confirmed will be released in the US and Europe on September 3.

RELATED: Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom is Coming to Switch This September

Family Trainer for Switch previously launched last December in Japan and contains 15 different mini-games that are all designed to help you shed a few of those pandemic pounds. Unlike the company’s previous entries in the series for the Wii (or the NES, if you want to go that far back), the new game won’t require a mat peripheral. Instead, you strap your Joy-Cons on and hit the rapids, track, seesaw, half-pipe, waterfall, or any manner of other locations, all from the comfort of your living room.

The mini-games included are Canoe Downstream, Hop-Hop-Step, Hurdle Run, Jump Rope, Log Dodge, Log Jump, Mole Panic, Pipe Slider, Rail Car Adventure, Seesaw Fight, Speed Roller, Stone Pillar Conveyor, Trick Boarder, Waterfall Climb, and Water Trampoline. Oh, and the straightforwardly named Running. We guess they couldn’t think of a cool title for that one.

Family Trainer for Switch will launch on September 3.
