Hulu has found its “Iron Mike” for its upcoming limited series in Moonlight star Trevante Rhodes.

The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Rhodes will also executive produce the limited series called Iron Mike, which is set for eight episodes. The drama, which is being helmed by the I, Tonya team will go into Tyson’s life in and outside the ring. Tyson has previously been critical of the series due to him not being involved.

Rhodes previously worked with Hulu on the streamer’s The United States vs. Billie Holiday film. He previously gained critical acclaim for his roles in Moonlight and BirdboxI, Tonya screenwriter Steven Rogers created the upcoming Iron Mike series. Karin Gist (Our Kind of People) will serve as showrunner. Executive producers include Craig Gillespie, Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerly, Entertainment 360’s Darin Friedman, Clubhouse Pictures’ Bryan Unkeless and Scott Morgan, and Rhodes.

A heavyweight boxing legend, Tyson has been a controversial figure for both his boxing career and personal life. Tyson was convicted of rape and served three years in prison as a result. After being released, Tyson attempted to regain his glory in boxing but failed to do so. Infamously, he was disqualified after biting Evander Holyfield’s ear. After several losses that damaged his legacy, Tyson retired in 2006. He recently returned for an exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr. and has rehabbed his image significantly in the past decade and a half, having appeared in The Hangover among other acting roles and hosting a popular podcast.

A Former Basketball Player to Fight Dracula in Graphic Novel OLD HEAD

old_head.jpg

Kyle Starks (Assassin Nation) has a new graphic novel coming out from Image Comics that sounds wacky. The novel is called Old Head and will see a former basketball player settle a blood feud his family has with Dracula. I don’t understand what I just wrote either, but I am here for it. This sounds like a hilarious story.

Perhaps best described as Space Jam meets Fright Night, this hilarious new story follows a former basketball star when he returns home for his mother’s funeral. What he doesn’t expect is to learn of her mysterious past, his destiny, and to find himself embroiled in a decades-long blood feud with Dracula himself.

Here’s how Starks describes the graphic novel:

I’m really excited for folks to finally get to read Old Head—an examination of legacy and toxic masculinity viewed through the lens of a father and daughter fighting sex monsters.

You can read Old Head on August 25 from local comic shops and online retailers or on August 31 through bookstores.

Lee Toland Krieger will direct the first two episodes of HBO Max’s upcoming series Green Lantern, according to Deadline. Krieger recently directed the pilot and second episode of The CW’s Superman & Lois and has also directed episodes of Riverdale, You, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Prodigal Son, Deadly Class, and Shadow and Bone, along with the movies December Ends, The Vicious Kind, The Age of Adaline, and Celeste & Jesse Forever.

Green Lantern stars Jeremy Irvine (Treadstone) as Alan Scott, one of the most high-profile gay characters in all of comics, and Emmy nominee Finn Wittrock (American Horror Story) as Guy Gardner, one of the many Green Lanterns that will be featured in the upcoming superhero series.

HBO Max’s Green Lantern reinvents the classic DC property through a story spanning decades and galaxies, beginning on Earth in 1941 with the very first Green Lantern, secretly gay FBI agent Alan Scott (Irvine), and 1984, with cocky alpha male Guy Gardner (Wittrock), and half-alien Bree Jarta. They’ll be joined by a multitude of other Lanterns — from comic book favorites to never-before-seen heroes.

Based on the DC characters, Green Lantern comes from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. The series is written by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, and Seth Grahame-Smith, who also executive produce. Geoff Johns, Sarah Schechter, David Madden, and David Katzenberg also executive produce with Elizabeth Hunter and Sara Saedi co-executive producing.

Green Lantern’s first live-action adaptation was Martin Campbell’s 2011 film where it starred Ryan Reynolds as the titular hero. However, the film was poorly received by critics and fans and was a box-office failure after only bringing in just $220 million worldwide on a $200 million budget.
