J.J. Abrams Confirms the Portal Movie Is Not A Lie

Portal Movie

Back in 2013 at the DICE Summit, director J.J. Abrams mentioned that he intended to work with Valve on a movie based on the uber-popular physics puzzler Portal. Since then, things have been somewhat quiet, with many assuming that the movie has joined the ranks of the hundreds of proposed media crossovers that have ended up falling by the wayside over the years.

However, in an interview with IGN this week, Abrams has confirmed that the project is indeed still alive.

“We actually do have a script that’s being written for the Portal movie now at [Warner Bros]. We’re really excited about the take and the pitch, so it feels like that thing’s finally on the rails” said Abrams.

No writer Is confirmed as being attached to the project yet, but Abrams is bullish about the project. He went on to say that the upcoming picture has “got enormous potential for a lot of reasons, one of which is because of the limited narrative of the game, as ingeniously told as it is, the potential of it is so huge. It’s gonna be super fun.”

The director also confirmed that his production company – Bad Robot – is not currently working on a movie based on another Valve mega-hit, Half-Life. Abrams said, “the Half-Life thing, we’re not actively involved with at the moment.”

Score one for science. We’ll bring you more on Portal as and when it bursts through the wall.

Poster Art for Karen Gillan’s Action Film GUNPOWDER MILKSHAKE

poster-art-for-karen-gillans-action-film-gunpowder-milkshake.jpg

I love the title of Karen Gillan’s upcoming action thriller Gunpowder Milkshake. I haven’t seen the movie yet, but the title alone makes me want to see the movie! Well, today we’ve got a cool new poster for the film to share with you that was shared by Netlfix.

The film stars Karen GillanLena HeadeyAngela BassettMichelle Yeoh, Chloe Coleman, Carla Gugino, and Paul Giamatti, and it was also announced that the movie will be released on July 14th.

The movie follows “three generations of women fight back against those who could take everything from them in the mother of all action movies.” The whole story also takes place over the course of one night.

The film was directed by Navot Papushado from a script he wrote with Ehud Lavski. Here’s the synopsis:

Sam (Karen Gillan) was only 12 years old when her mother Scarlet (Lena Headey), an elite assassin, was forced to abandon her. Sam was raised by The Firm, the ruthless crime syndicate her mother worked for. Now, 15 years later, Sam has followed in her mother’s footsteps and grown into a fierce hit-woman. She uses her “talents” to clean up The Firm’s most dangerous messes. She’s as efficient as she is loyal.

But when a high-risk job goes wrong, Sam must choose between serving The Firm and protecting the life of an innocent 8-year-old girl – Emily (Chloe Coleman). With a target on her back, Sam has only one chance to survive: Reunite with her mother and her lethal associates: The Librarians (Angela Bassett, Michelle Yeoh and Carla Gugino).  These three generations of women must now learn to trust each other, stand up to The Firm and their army of henchmen, and raise hell against those who could take everything from them.

I’m looking forward to watching the film, and I hope that it ends up being as awesome as the title.

virtua fighter 5 ps plus june 2021 free games

It’s almost June, and Sony is getting their ducks in a row with regards to their PlayStation Plus offerings for the month.

According to a report from Spanish site Areajugones, Virtua Fighter: Ultimate Showdown looks likely to be one of the PS Plus June 2021 free games included in the batch. Previously, the game launched for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, so this would mark the first time the game has been available in a native format for either the PlayStation 4 or 5.

A recent leak gave away that Sega is working on a “Virtua Fighter x esports” title that is suspected to launch in the not-too-distant future. Getting the franchise back into people’s consciousness by giving a previous version away seems like a no-brainer.

More will be revealed about the new esports title in a live stream on May 27, so the timing certainly works out.

Aside from Virtua Fighter, the rumor mill suggests that EA’s Star Wars: Squadrons will be getting into formation as part of the PS Plus June 2021 free games lineup, alongside the spy adventure Operation Tango.

We’ll await official confirmation of all of this, but if the rumors are true, you’ll be able to get back into the arena and go toe-to-toe with the likes of Wolf and Jeffry from June 1.

Konami Reveals New I:P Masquerena Accessories for YU-GI-OH! TCG

ygo_ip_masquerena.jpg

I:P Masquerena is a popular Link Monster in the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG and now fans will be able to protect all of their cards with her. Konami recently announced new accessories that use the artwork for the popular card. This includes a new Duelist Portfolio, card sleeves, a card case, and a game mat. While the alternate artwork where the character is riding a motorcycle is featured on all the items, all of them except the card sleeves will also feature the original artwork for the card, giving fans the best of both worlds. I’ll be honest, I love the way that the mat turned out.

My favorite items are always the Duelist Portfolio ($9.99) and the game mat ($14.99) with the card case ($4.99) being a decent deck box and the card sleeves ($3.99 per pack of 50) working well for the Extra Deck or for sleeving cards in your collection. All of the items will be available on November 5.

Marvel’s WASTELANDERS Casts Stephen Lang as Clint Barton and Susan Sarandon as Natasha Romanoff

marvels_wastelanders1.jpg

Marvel’s Wastelanders is an upcoming podcast series that will feature a post-apocalyptic world. The series will follow various fan-favorite characters with the first being Marvel’s Wastelanders: Old Man Star-Lord. During a recent town hall for the upcoming series, Marvel revealed that Stephen Lang will be playing Clint Barton in Marvel’s Wastelanders: Old Man Hawkeye and Susan Sarandon will be Natasha Romanoff in Marvel’s Wastelanders: Grey Widow. Old Man Hawkeye will release shortly after Old Man Star-Lord while there is no release information for Grey Widow.

In a post-apocalyptic future, Marvel’s Wastelanders: Old Man Star-Lord finds Peter Quill (Timothy Busfield) and Rocket (Chris Elliott) a little paunchier, a little slower, and a lot saltier than they were during the glory days of the Guardians of the Galaxy. They quickly discover the Earth isn’t what it used to be either, when they crash land 30 years after all the world’s Super Villains seized control. The former Guardians are accompanied by a Rigellian Recorder, affectionately dubbed “Cora”, who documents their mission to find the Black Vortex—an ancient relic reported to yield cosmic powers—before guillotine collars bestowed upon them by The Collector snap their necks.

In the barren, desolate wasteland of the mid-west as controlled by Doctor Doom, they encounter the ageless telepath, Emma Frost (Vanessa Williams), outlaw Ghost Riders, Doomwood locals (Danny Glover), and the bloodthirsty Kraven the Hunter. Who will find the Black Vortex first and what will be the price of its power?

Old Man Star-Lord will be available to listen on all major podcast platforms starting June 1.

Nintendo Reveals Gorgeous New Zelda and Loftwing Amiibo for SKYWARD SWORD HD and Fans are Furious

zelda_loftwing_amiibo.jpg

Nintendo has made a lot of people mad just by announcing The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD. The game is a remaster of a game and many already found the standard $60 price tag too steep.

Now, Nintendo has announced a gorgeous amiibo of Zelda with her Loftwing, and people are once again furious. The amiibo is gorgeous and has the feature of allowing players to instantly teleport between the surface and Skyloft no matter where they are, including in the middle of a dungeon. This is an incredibly convenient quality of life improvement. Normally, you need to go to a save point in order to make the jump between the two areas. The amiibo will have an MSRP of $24.99 and launch on July 16.

People are furious because they believe that the quality of life improvement should’ve just been included in Skyward Sword HD instead of behind a $25 amiibo. I would’ve liked to see it included too, but it wasn’t up to me, and honestly, I’d just prefer some usable controls. Also, there are a couple of things to consider.

First, Nintendo doesn’t have to include the improvement. All they promised was a remaster of the game with improved motion controls and button controls. Second, this is nothing new. In Hyrule Warriors, you needed a Link amiibo (except the Wolf Link one that came with Twilight Princess HD) to unlock a weapon. In Twilight Princess HD, there were features also locked behind amiibo like a completely new dungeon. Nintendo and many players really like amiibo and if Nintendo can reward those amiibo players, they’re going to. Now, if Nintendo required you to have the amiibo to do something that was in the original version, we’d be having a very different discussion. Do you have to like that they put this feature behind the amiibo? No. Just stop feeling like you’ve been betrayed because of it. This is actually really nice since it doesn’t lock content like previous titles, it just adds some convenience.
