Vin Diesel Shares First Look Photo at Brie Larson’s FAST X Character

Vin Diesel has shared a new photo from Fast X, which offers us a first look at Brie Larson’s character. There are no details on the character she’s playing, but Diesel previously said, “You have no idea how timeless and amazing she will be in our mythology. Beyond her beauty, her intellect… her Oscar, haha is this profound soul who will add something you might not have expected but yearned for.”

The new photo came with the following caption: “There are some people you will meet in life…. That will change you, change your family… change the world, FOREVER!” Check it out:

As you know, this film has gone through some major changes recently as director Justin Lin left the project due to creative differences and was replaced by Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk, Transporter). It’ll be interesting to see how this turns out as Diesel is obviously running the franchise now.

Fast 9 wasn’t the same without franchise writer Chris Morgan and with the director change in the middle of production, losing the franchise director, who knows what to expect. Morgan and Lin were good for this franchise, but now that they’re gone…. we’ll just have to wait and see.

Dan Mazeau wrote the screenplay for Fast X with Lin. We still don’t have any details regarding the synopsis for this next chapter of the story, but it will be the first of two films that bring the main saga to a close.

Diesel previously teased that there are “angles coming” to the mythology that will make fans smile. The cast includes Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Sung Kang, Charlize Theron, and Jason Momoa as a flamboyant villain.

The next two movies are filming back to back, and Diesel has said that the target release date is February 2023 for the first one and February 2024 for the second one.

DARK CITY Director Alex Proyas Helming a New Gothic Horror Film SISTER DARKNESS

Alex Proyas, the director of films such as The Crow, Dark City, I, Robot, Knowing, and Gods of Egypt, has found his next film project, and it looks like he’s going back to his filmmaking roots! The movie is a gothic horror revenge film titled Sister Darkness.

The movie is described as a “macabre female-driven fever dream of revenge and gothic terror with deep franchise potential, along the same vein as Proyas’ cult hit The Crow, the whip-smart and stylish Sister Darkness is set in 1930s UK at a time when women were marginalised and exploited. It follows the newly wed but unhappy Alice who stumbles across her doppelganger Isla, whose existence is a mystery seeped in a tale of bloody retribution against her oppressors, the hellish supernatural nightscape, and a dread uprising against the deceitful aristocracy. Proyas’ primary vision is inspired by UK horror movies of the 60s and 70s with deep reverence to legendary films such as The Innocents and The Legend of Hell House.”

This sounds like it’ll be an awesome project for Proyas, who tends to make strange, unusual, and unique films. I’ve enjoyed the movies that he’s made over the course of his career and that he isn’t afraid to take big swings and go weird. Sister Darkness is the kind of project that will allow him to do all kinds of fun and crazy imaginative things!

This is Proyas’ first film since the 2016 movie Gods of Egypt, and it’s based on an original script that he wrote. The film will be shot in Australia in late-2022 into mid-2023, “using a unique, fully virtual production process specially developed and refined by his VFX studio Heretic Foundation, which has been developing revolutionary approaches to filmmaking in this space since 2020.”

As Proyas said in a statement: “We are excited to be embarking with 108 Media on what we genuinely believe will be the first step of a long and fruitful journey together. Sister Darkness will be a milestone in the use of virtual production at this scale and Heretic’s talented team will allow us to establish production values at much higher levels in this budget range than ever before thought achievable. This is the future of filmmaking.”

108 Media’s CEO Abhi Rastogi added: “Working with Alex and what he has built with Heretic aligns with 108’s goal to be able to service bold creative vision from concept to final mile distribution as our content financing divisions has scaled up tremendously this year with new partners and continuing strategic expansions.”

I’m looking forward to seeing how this turns out! It’s great to see that Proyas is directing another movie after all these years.

Exciting Action-Packed Teaser Trailer For MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – DEAD RECKONING PART ONE

Tom Cruise is back in action as Ethan Hunt in the first teaser trailer for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. If you’re a fan of the Mission: Impossible franchise, you’re gonna love what this first trailer has to offer! It teases a lot of awesome action and ends with a shot of Cruise performing one of his most insane stunts in the franchise!

This movie looks like it will be one of the best in the franchise yet! It’s especially cool to see Henry Czerny back as Eugene Kittridge, who originally appeared in the first Mission: Impossible movie back in 1996. This trailer features him talking to Hunt saying:

“Your days of fighting for the so-called greater good are over. This is our chance to control the truth, the concepts of right and wrong for everyone for centuries to come. You’re fighting to save an ideal that doesn’t exist. Never did. You need to pick a side.”

There’s not much revealed in the way of plot, but this next chapter certainly looks like it’s going to be a thrilling journey for Hunt and his team.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One will bring back franchise stars Ving Rhames, Henry Czerny, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby and Frederick Schmidt. New additions include Hayley Atwell (Agent Carter), Pom Klementieff (Guardians of the Galaxy), Shea Whigham (Boardwalk Empire), Esai Morales, Rob Delaney (21 Jump Street), Charles Parnell, Indira Varma (Game of Thrones), Mark Gatiss and Cary Elwes (Saw).

The movie is written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie, who previously helmed Rogue Nation in 2015 and Fallout in 2018. Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One will be released on July 14th, 2023, and the second part, which is expected to be Cruise’s last Mission: Impossible movie, will be released on June 28, 2024. Enjoy the trailer!

OBI-WAN KENOBI Director Explains How the Tone Is Similar to JOKER and LOGAN

Obi-Wan Kenobi director Deborah Chow has been out promoting the upcoming Star Wars series, and in a recent interview with Total Film, she compared the tone of the series to other films such as Joker and Logan. Those are definitely interesting and unexpected films to be inspired by for a Star Wars series, but Chow explained the reasoning saying:

“I think I was the most excited about getting the opportunity to do a character-driven story, in a similar way – it’s a different tone – but something like Joker or Logan, where you take one character out of a big franchise and then you really have the time and you go a lot deeper with the character. So, that to me seemed really exciting to get to do in Star Wars.”

Chow also discusses Obi-Wan’s journey in the series saying, “Obi-Wan’s going on a journey. There’s going to be different people that come into his life. One of the things I was trying to do with this series was to have the legacy, and who is important in Obi-Wan’s life, and to also have some new characters. So it’s going to be a mixture of the two. But I do think there are some surprises to come. I hope.”

The series stars Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader, and Moses Ingram plays the galaxy’s newest villain Reva. Rupert Friend is also in the series and plays the Grand Inquisitor, while Sung Kang plays the Fifth Brother. Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie also star.

Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi lands in theaters on May 27th.

Ava DuVernay Developing a Romantic Drama Series for Starz with Joshua Jackson and Lauren Ridloff

Ava DuVernay (Selma, A Wrinkle in Time) is developing an untitled romantic drama series for Starz, where it landed a three-year script-to-series commitment. Lauren Ridloff (Eternals, The Walking Dead) and Joshua Jackson (Fringe, When They See Us) are both set to star and executive produce. Ridloff and Jackson previously starred alongside each other in a Broadway production of Children of a Lesser God.

The story follows two polar opposite people who become intertwined in a love affair that turns their worlds – and those of everyone around them – upside down.

The drama will chronicle “what it takes to fall and stay in a radical, rebellious love. One person is ambitious, while the other is restless. One is ready to commit, while the other debates the merits of relationships. One is Black and one is white. One is deaf and one is not. Though wildly different, the two are emotionally and physically drawn to each other despite personal expectations and public assumptions. Their attraction passionately disrupts notions of race, gender, class, physical ability, and normative culture, elevating to true love that surpasses difference.”

Kathryn Busby, Starz’ President of Original Programming, said: “There is nothing like this series on TV and we are thrilled to be in development with Ava, a trailblazer and unparalleled champion of diversity. Lauren is a true inspiration and together with Joshua, a brilliant veteran actor, they will bring their incredible talents to this project – both in front of and behind the camera. This series exemplifies our #TakeTheLead mission, and we couldn’t be prouder.”

DuVernay added: “On behalf of my producing partner Paul Garnes and everyone at Array Filmworks, I’m thrilled to develop this passion project with Lauren, Josh, and Kat. Starz and Warner Bros. Television have made a bold production commitment to immediately explore three seasons, and we’re revved up and ready to begin what I hope will be a beautiful journey for all involved.”

DuVernay will oversee the writing on the project, which would potentially get three seasons and a total of 18 episodes.

Rosario Dawson Will Continue to Play Ahsoka for as Long As It’s Possible

Rosario Dawson is perfect in the role of Ahsoka Tano in the live-action Star Wars shows. She fits the part so well and right now, fans are incredibly excited for her big upcoming Ahsoka solo series, which will see the character continue her journey looking for Grand Admiral Thrawn and Ezra.

Dawson recently sat down with Vanity Fair for an interview and while talking about the opportunity to play this character, she said: “As long as they want me, and as long as it’s possible, I’m in it.” She went on to explain the situation she’s in with playing Ahsoka saying:

“I get to be a part of a universe, and a team, and a world in which even as I age I might still be able to participate. That’s huge. You know what I mean? To have that longevity with something, in my industry, that’s not particularly heard of. It makes me feel so grateful.”

When talking about her fears of aging as an actress in Hollywood, she said: “Honestly, as an actor in my 40s, I figured I’d be sent out to pasture by now. I’m not going to say I take it for granted. Like, oh, I’m good for the rest of my life. But there’s a sense of peace that I feel.”

Dawson is a wonderfully talented actress, and I don’t think she should have any fear of being sent out to pasture. She’s still got a long successful career ahead of her.

Filoni also recently opened up about Dawson’s Ahsoka series saying:

Ahsoka is a continuous story. It is definitely driving toward a goal, in my mind, as opposed to being little singular adventures. That’s what I want the character to be doing, and I think that’s what fans want now. They have such a relationship with her. I’ve only recently started to understand that all those kids that watched Clone Wars are now a lot older—they’re very excited about all the things they grew up with, as they should be.”

The story follows Ahsoka and Sabine as they hunt for Grand Admiral Thrawn in hopes that it will lead them to find the lost Ezra Bridger, the young Jedi who disappeared with Thrawn many years ago.

Dave Filoni wrote the series and is executive producing with Jon Favreau, and I imagine they’ll both be directing episodes. Bryce Dallas Howard also might be directing an episode. The directing lineup has yet to be officially announced, though.

The series also stars Natasha Liu Bordizzo, who plays Sabine Wren, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead in an undisclosed role. It also stars Ivanna Sakhno and Hayden Christensen, who will be back as Darth Vader.

Trailer and Poster for Disney+ Series BAYMAX!

A new trailer and poster have been released by Disney+ for the upcoming series Baymax!. The show will follow the lovable home-health companion as he travels the streets of San Fransokyo, helping everyone along the way. The series is directed by Dean Wellins, Lissa Treiman, Dan Abraham, and Mark Kennedy, from screenwriter Cirocco Dunlap. Scott Adsit returns as the voice of Baymax, and he is joined in the cast by Ryan Potter, Maya Rudolph, Emily Kuroda, Lilimar, Zeno Robinson and Jaboukie Young-White.

In the new series, “the affable, inflatable, inimitable healthcare companion robot, Baymax, sets out to do what he was programmed to do: help others.”

The show’s creator, Don Hall, who helmed 2014’s Oscar®-winning film, Big Hero 6, said of the story:

“I thought it would be fun to do a Disney+ series with Baymax interacting with normal folks. In each of our six episodes, Baymax just wants to help someone—and a lot of times they don’t want to be helped. He sets out to fix a physical issue that he’s identified, and in the process, gets to a deeper, more emotional place and can be almost transformative in that role.”

This looks like a super fun series for new and old fans of the Big Hero 6 franchise. Check out the trailer and poster for Baymax! below, and watch the series when it drops on Disney+ on June 29th.

Gerard Butler Is Developing a Sequel to His Action Thriller LAW ABIDING CITIZEN

The 2009 action thriller Law Abiding Citizen is getting a sequel with Gerard Butler set to produce the film and possibly reprise his role. Producer Lucas Foster and screenwriter Kurt Wimmer, who worked on the original film, are also returning.

There are no story details for the sequel, but the first film starred Butler and Jamie Foxx and the story followed “assistant district attorney Nick Rice’s (Foxx) pursuit of Clyde Shelton (Butler), a frustrated father who implements an elaborate and twisted plan to bring down the entire judicial system in Philadelphia after a plea bargain sets free the man who murdered his wife and daughter.”

Lucas Foster said in a statement: “I am delighted to partner with Rob, Mike and Village Roadshow Pictures, together with my frequent creative partner Kurt Wimmer, to revisit these great characters and this compelling topic which seems even more relevant today than when we made the original film. We’re going to blow your mind… again.”

Producers Rob Paris and Mike Witherill added: “The demand for smart, star-driven action thrillers in the marketplace is palpable, and this is one of those rare unexploited franchise opportunities that was too good to pass up.”

Executive producers Tristen Tuckfield and Jillian Apfelbaum went on to say: “We’re thrilled to partner with Rivulet on the sequel to Law Abiding Citizen. It’s a title that exemplifies the scope and breadth of the Vine library. Collaborating closely with Kurt and Lucas will lend the creative authenticity necessary to make a film worthy of its predecessor.”

I enjoyed the first movie. It may not really need a sequel, but since they’re already making it, I’ll show up to watch it.

Ravensburger Announces New THE GREAT BRITISH BAKING SHOW Card Game

Fans of the popular The Great British Baking Show like myself will be excited to hear that Ravensburger has turned our favorite baking show into a family card game. For 2-4 players ages 10 and up, players will race against other players to create your confectionary masterpiece. You’ll get cards that will be played to recreate the configuration of baking cards shown on a recipe.

Choose to either rush through to finish first and possibly sacrificing perfection, or to take your time to get the best flavors for your bake. Just be sure to avoid the dreaded “soggy” cards lest you risk the dreaded soggy bottom. Players can also play “Help!” cards to select a wild card from the center of the table to help recreate the amazing sportsmanship we have seen in the show. You’ll also be able to utilize the “Bin” token and throw out anything that isn’t working once per round.

This sounds like a really fun, short game to help pass the time when you can’t devote much time to a board game or if you just don’t want to set one up. The game is supposed to take roughly 20 minutes which I love. The game will be available in August 2022 at major retailers and local game stores nationwide. Will you get a famous Paul Hollywood handshake or will your creation be a “bit of a mess”?
