Godzilla: King of the Monsters Director Wants a Prehistoric Godzilla Film

Godzilla: King of the Monsters director wants a prehistoric Godzilla film

Godzilla: King of the Monsters is just around the corner, and hopefully makes enough money to usher in even more monster films beyond Godzilla Vs. Kong. If that happens, one of the films King of the Monsters director Mike Dougherty would like to see is a prehistoric Godzilla film featuring primitive humans.

Here’s his full quote via JoBlo: “I like the idea of going back in time and telling creatures’ stories from different eras. Skull Island was set in the ’70s, but personally I’d like to do ‘GODZILLA B.C.,’ go back to ancient times and really see the Ray Harryhausen-esque world where primitive humans had to try to survive with these creatures. Maybe we’d get to see the first time mankind truly encountered Godzilla, and get to see how that relationship was christened.”

Obviously, for something like that to happen King of the Monsters would have to be a mega hit … so, here’s hoping!

The Godzilla sequel stars Vera Farmiga (Up in the AirThe Conjuring films), Kyle Chandler (The Wolf of Wall StreetManchester by the Sea), Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things), Bradley Whitford (Get Out), Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley), Charles Dance (Game of Thrones), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Straight Outta Compton), Aisha Hinds (Star Trek Into Darkness), and Zhang Ziyi (Memoirs of a GeishaCrouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon). Ken Watanabe (The Last Samurai) and Sally Hawkins (Blue Jasmine), both reprise their Godzilla roles.

The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.

Michael Dougherty directs from a script he co-wrote with Zach Shields. The film is being produced by Mary Parent, Alex Garcia, Brian Rogers and Thomas Tull, with Barry H. Waldman, Zach Shields, Yoshimitsu Banno and Kenji Okuhira serving as executive producers and Alexandra Mendes co-producing for Legendary.

A presentation of Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, the sequel is set to stomp into theaters on May 31.

Sylvester Stallone Is Going to Remake the South Korean Thriller THE GANGSTER, THE COP, THE DEVIL

sylvester-stallone-is-going-to-remake-the-south-korean-thriller-the-gangster-the-cop-the-devil-social.jpg

Sylvester Stallone is lining up a new film project to develop as a director and producer. It’s a remake of the South Korean crime-thriller called The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil.

The original film starred Don Lee, and he will reprise his role in Stallone’s remake. In the story, Lee plays a gangster “who survives a lethal attack by a serial killer. He forms an unlikely partnership with a cop to help track down the murderer.”

The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil hasn’t even been released yet. It won’t be released in South Korea until May 15th, but obviously Stallone isn’t going to waste any time in getting the remake developed.

As a fan of Stallone’s work, I’m curious to see what he is planning for this movie and how it will be different from the original. This is obviously a project that he’s excited about developing. If you’re curious about what to expect from the movie, here’s a trailer that was released for the original film.

Kevin Bacon is a Corrupt FBI Agent in the Trailer for the 1992 Boston-Set Crime Drama CITY ON A HILL

Showtime has released a trailer for their great-looking new crime drama called City on a Hill. The story is set in Boston in 1992, and Kevin Bacon plays a corrupt FBI agent who teams up with an assistant district attorney (Aldis Hodge) to undermine the power and authority of the criminal justice system.

The series comes from Tom Fantana (Homicide: Life on the Streets) who serves as showrunner on the series, and since the series is set in Boston, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are serving as executive producers. Here’s the synopsis:

The series is set in early 1990s Boston, rife with violent criminals emboldened by local law enforcement agencies in which corruption and racism was the norm. In this fictional account, driving change is assistant district attorney Decourcy Ward (Hodge), who comes from Brooklyn and forms an unlikely alliance with a corrupt yet venerated FBI veteran, Jackie Rohr (Bacon). Together, they take on a family of armored car robbers from Charlestown in a case that grows to involve, and ultimately subvert, the entire criminal justice system of Boston.

I enjoy a good crime series and even though they are a dime a dozen, this one looks like a quality show with great characters that I think I’d enjoy watching. Why wouldn’t I?! It stars Kevin Bacon!

In addition to Bacon and Hodge, City on a Hill stars Jonathan Tucker, Lauren E. BanksMark O’BrienAmanda ClaytonJere SheaKevin Chapman, and Jill Hennessey.

City on a Hill will premiere on Showtime June 16th. Watch the trailer and let us know if you’ll be checking this show out.

Ryan Reynolds Recorded Some R-Rated Jokes for DETECTIVE PIKACHU

ryan-reynolds-recorded-some-r-rated-jokes-for-detective-pikachu-social.jpg

The reviews for Detective Pikachu have been rolling in, and for the most part, critics seem to be loving it. I’ve been seeing the words “cute,” “adorable,” and “heartfelt” in a lot of the reviews I’ve read.

When Detective Pikachu was first announced, we all knew that it was going to be a PG or PG-13-rated film, but that didn’t stop Ryan Reynolds from recording R-rated jokes for the movie! While talking to CB, Reynolds said:

“You know, some things would come out a little PG-13, bordering on rated R. So, that stuff didn’t make it, but the great thing about this role is that you can be totally edgy and push it but still stay within the boundaries of a movie you can take little kids to.”

Reynolds continued and explained that he would take several passes at any one line, and some of those passes were a bit more vulgar than others:

“It’s just throwing like 800 versions of any joke or any moment up against a wall and leaving it up to some poor editor to sort through and figure out.”

It would be fun to get to hear some of these jokes! Reynolds previously told Kotaku, “You could probably squeeze together a Rated-R cut if someone went looking for it in the edit, I’m sure. God forbid they would.”

I seriously doubt that would happen, and there are no plans for a cut like that to be released, but I kinda wish it would. How about you? Would you like to see an R-rated Detective Pikachu film get released?

The Lawsuit Against the Creators of STRANGER THINGS Has Been Dropped

About a year ago a lawsuit was filed against Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer for stealing the idea for the show from a man named Charlie Kessler. Shortly after they were slapped with the lawsuit, the Duffers said that they could prove that they didn’t steal any of their ideas for the show and said that the accusations were “completely meritless.”

Well, the Duffer Bros. failed to get the plagiarism case tossed out, so they ended up going to court and that’s when things took an interesting turn. Why? Because the lawsuit ended up being dropped by Kessler before the trial, which was set to start on Tuesday.

Kessler claimed that he pitched the brothers an idea for a project based on urban legends about a decommissioned military installation in Montauk, New York. But in a statement he recently released, he acknowledged that ”the brothers have demonstrated that they conceived the idea independently.”

The Duffer bros. ended up producing emails and Google documents showing that they were working on the concept as early as 2010. Kessler went on to say:

“After hearing the deposition testimony this week of the legal expert I hired, it is now apparent to me that, whatever I may have believed in the past, my work had nothing to do with the creation of Stranger Things. Documents from 2010 and 2013 prove that the Duffers independently created their show. As a result, I have withdrawn my claim and I will be making no further comment on this matter.”

So Kessler isn’t going to be getting all of that money that he was hoping for. Netflix also issued a statement regarding how this all played out, saying:

“We are glad to be able to put this baseless lawsuit behind us. As we have said all along, Stranger Things is a ground-breaking original creation by The Duffer Brothers. We are proud of this show and of our friends Matt and Ross, whose artistic vision gave life to Stranger Things, and whose passion, imagination and relentless hard work alongside our talented cast and crew made it a wildly successful, award-winning series beloved by viewers around the world.”

So, I guess Netflix, the Duffers, and everyone else can move on with their lives. They don’t have to stress out or waste their time or energy over this nonsense anymore.

Anthony Russo Discusses the One ‘Almost Disappointing’ Aspect of Opening Weekend of AVENGERS: ENDGAME

avengers endgame office.jpeg

Joe and Anthony Russo, the directors of Avengers: Endgame, are at the top of their game right now, as their latest movie is rapidly making so much money and selling so many tickets that it looks like it’s going to beat every record in its path. So it seems as though everything would be pretty great in the movie-making aspect of their lives, however, Anthony Russo had one disappointing aspect of this whole affair that he mentioned on CinemaBlend’s ReelBlend podcast. Here’s what he had to say:

I have to be honest with you. I’m almost disappointed that the movie did so well, because it’s like, the box office story is literally dominating the conversation and it’s not the most interesting part of the story.

I get that. You want the chatter to be about the movie itself, the story, the impact, not just the money. Anthony went on to say:

When you’re charged with writing the final chapter of the book, and executing it, our hope was that — with any favorite story, you always want the end to be the best part of the story. So that was really what we were hoping to do. Even if we got anywhere close to that, that was our aspiration. And it seems like, at least for some people on some levels, that we delivered an ending that seems satisfying.

Joe Russo went on to touch on the business and numbers side of the film, saying:

It’s always about the narrative, too, of these movies in the marketplace. How did it do? Did it break a record? Did it beat the last one? That stuff is really critical to the life of a movie. And of course, we were hoping that it was going to break the international record. Because that’s a story, right? And then you’re hoping and praying that it beats the domestic, which was set by Infinity War last year. Otherwise, frankly, [for] some people looks like a failure. It’s crazy that a movie like this has these kinds of demands on it.

It really has been amazing to see the pre-sales go above and beyond the imagined numbers, then the opening weekend, second weekend, and beyond. Now that the “spoiler embargo” has been lifted and fans are free to discuss all things Endgame publicly, I’m sure the conversation will continue to turn from numbers to story. And what a story it was!

What have you been dying to talk about from Avengers: Endgame?

Natalie Portman Opens Up About the Negative Fan Response to the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy

natalie portman starwars.jpg

It’s widely known that Star Wars fans are a fickle breed. They love the original trilogy, hate the prequels, and are hit or miss on the current films. While they are hard to please, and make their opinions perfectly clear, we don’t always get to hear the other side of things. In the most recent edition of Empire Magazine, actress Natalie Portman (Black Swan, Jackie) was interviewed and opened up about being a part of the disappointing trilogy:

“It was hard. It was a bummer because it felt like people were so excited about new ones and then to have people feel disappointed. Also to be at an age that I didn’t really understand that’s kind of the nature of the beast. When something has that much anticipation it can almost only disappoint.”

It’s nice that she can have some perspective on the movies now, and realize it really had nothing to do with her. She went on to add:

“With the perspective of time, it’s been re-evaluated by a lot of people who actually really love them now. There’s a very avid group of people who think they’re the best ones now! I don’t have enough perspective to weigh in.”

I don’t know how true that is, although I have always enjoyed the prequel trilogy. They were the first Star Wars films I ever saw, and I enjoyed them a lot. But I wasn’t the target audience. It all came out kind of ass-backward, and I am still really doubtful that there are avid fans who think Episodes 1-3 are the best, but I’m glad Portman thinks that.

Young Teens Fight Against an Alien Invasion in Trailer For Netflix’s New Film RIM OF THE WORLD

Netflix has released the first trailer for a new sci-fi action thriller called Rim of the World, which was directed by McG (Terminator: Salvation). The story for the film focuses on a group of young teens who have to fight to survive an alien invasion that breaks out while they are at summer camp.

The movie looks like it’ll offer some fun entertainment to audiences. I’m not the biggest fan of McG and his work, but I’ll give this next movie of his a shot when it’s released.

Summer camp at Rim of the World has barely begun when four misfit teenagers — Alex, ZhenZhen, Dariush, and Gabriel — find they’ve got bigger problems to face than learning how to canoe and climb ropes when aliens suddenly invade the planet. Alone in a campground once teeming with people, the kids are unexpectedly entrusted with a key that carries the secret to stopping the invasion. Without any adults or electronics to help guide the way,  it’s clear what they must do: band together, conquer their fears, and save the world. An epic action-adventure directed by McG (Charlie’s Angels).

Rim of the World stars Jack Gore, Miya CechBenjamin Flores Jr.Alessio Scalzotto, and Andrew Bachelor, and it hits Netflix on May 24th.

Check out the trailer below and let us know if it looks like it’ll be worth checking out!
