Swamp Thing made his comic book debut back in 1971 and has maintained his position as a staple of the DCU since then, including seminal runs written by Alan Moore, Brian K. Vaughan, Mark Millar, and Scott Snyder. The character was previously adapted into a feature film from Wes Craven in 1982, which spawned a sequel seven years later, and a USA Network series that ran for three seasons in the early ’90s. Dick Durock took on the role in both the films and the series. An animated Swamp Thing series also debuted in the early ’90s but only aired five episodes.

Disney Announces Release Dates For 3 New STAR WARS Films, AVATAR Sequels, and THE NEW MUTANTS

disney-announces-release-dates-for-3-new-star-wars-films-avatar-sequels-and-the-new-mutants-social.jpg

Disney has revealed a bunch of new release dates for several upcoming movies that include three new Star Wars films, James Cameron’s Avatar sequels, The New Mutants, and More.

Starting in December 2022, Star Wars will return to the big screen with a new untitled film. This will be the first Star Wars film to be released after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is released. After that the two other Star Wars films will be released every other December, so they are really going to space out the release of these movies! The second film will come in 2024 and the third 2026. It’s a smart move with the backlash that the franchise has been getting from some fans, but at the same time, as a Star Wars fan, I kinda wish we’d be getting more.

The first Avatar sequel will be released in December 2021 and the three other sequel will be released every other December. So that puts the dates at 2023, 2025, and 2027.

As I am going through these release dates, I can’t help but amusingly think about how much older I’m going to be when we finally see some of these Star Wars and Avatar films released!

The X-Men spinoff film The New Mutants (also has been given a new release date of April 3rd, 2020. I’m happy to see that’s actually going to get a theatrical release. Then there’s Brad Pitt’s sci-fi film Ad Astra set to coming out on September 9th, 2019, and the adaptation of Artemis Fowl is now being released on May 29th, 2020. They also dated the Cruella de Vil film film starring Emma Stone, for Christmas of 2020.

The press release doesn’t mention anything regarding any Marvel films. I’m sure Marvel is waiting for Comic-Con to reveal all that information.

Here’s the full press release:

The Walt Disney Studios has unveiled its upcoming slate following the recent acquisition of the Fox film studios, including changes to previously dated films and a number of major additions.

After kicking off with the record-setting success of Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame, The Walt Disney Studios’ 2019 summer slate includes Disney’s Aladdin on May 24, Fox’s Dark Phoenix on June 7, Pixar’s Toy Story 4 on June 21, Fox’s Stuber on July 12, and Disney’s The Lion King on July 19. Fox 2000’s The Art of Racing in the Rain moves up to Aug. 9, and Fox Searchlight’s Ready or Not will release on Aug. 23, while three films move to later dates: Ad Astra (9/20/19), The New Mutants (4/3/20), and Artemis Fowl (5/29/20).

The Studios’ 2019 slate rounds out with Fox’s The Woman in the Window on Oct. 4 and Ford V. Ferrari on Nov. 15, Disney’s Maleficent: Mistress of Evil on Oct. 18 and Disney Animation’s Frozen 2 on Nov. 22, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker on Dec. 20, and Blue Sky Studios’ Spies in Disguise, moving from September to Christmas. Among early 2020 titles are Fox’s Underwater on Jan. 10, a new Kingsman movie on Feb. 14, and Call of the Wild on Feb. 21, followed by Pixar’s Onward on March 6 and Disney’s Mulan on March 27.

The updated calendar also sets release dates for major franchises Avatar and Star Wars. With Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker bringing the original Skywalker Saga to its conclusion, three new as-yet-untitled Star Wars films will release on the pre-Christmas weekend every other year beginning in 2022. Four forthcoming Avatarfilms, expanding the vibrant world of Pandora, will release on the pre-Christmas weekend every other year beginning in 2021. In the holiday corridor for 2020, Fox’s West Side Story adaptation, directed by Steven Spielberg, will debut Dec. 18 in the pre-Christmas slot, with Disney’s Cruella opening Wednesday, Dec. 23, for the long holiday weekend.

“We’re excited to put in place a robust and diverse slate that lays the foundation of our long-term strategy, bringing together a breadth of films from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, Fox, Fox Searchlight, and Blue Sky Studios to create an extraordinary collection of cinematic experiences for audiences around the world,” said Cathleen Taff, President, Theatrical Distribution, Franchise Management, and Business & Audience Insights, The Walt Disney Studios. “With a strong summer already in place, we are eager to carry that momentum forward over the coming years thanks to a creative wellspring of bold and imaginative stories coming from our world-class studios – including several new chapters of two revered franchises, Avatar and Star Wars.”

What are your thoughts on how Disney and Lucasfilm are handling the release of the Star Wars films? Are you happy that we are going to see less of them getting made and released over the years? Or are you upset we aren’t getting as much as some fans hoped we would be getting?

At least we’ll have the Disney+ shows to enjoy!

Trailer for the Seriously Messed Up Psychological Horror Thriller THE LODGE

trailer-for-the-seriously-messed-up-psychological-horror-thriller-the-lodge-social.jpg

The first trailer has been released for the upcoming psychological horror thriller The Lodge. I had a chance to see this movie at Sundance, and I loved it! This is one hell of a crazy-ass twisted movie that is seriously going to mess with your head.

I like movies that mess my head! They are the ones that really get to me, affect me, and scare the shit out of me. As I said in my review, the movie starts out as an unsettling nightmare but ends up being seriously jacked up.

Devoted to their devastated mother, siblings Aidan and Mia resent Grace, the younger woman their newly separated father plans to marry. They flatly reject Grace’s attempts to bond, and they dig up dirt on her tragic past—but soon they find themselves trapped with her, snowed in in a remote holiday village after their dad heads back to the city for work. Just as relations begin to thaw, strange and frightening events threaten to unearth psychological demons from Grace’s strictly religious childhood.

An unblinking study of human frailty, The Lodge offers a haunting exploration of the traumatic aftershocks of religious devotion while positing that some evils just don’t die.

As I previously said, one of the things that I loved most about this film “is that it got you believing that you know where the story is going. It even plays on those ideas! It totally messes with the audience and then all of a sudden something snaps in the film and the direction changes and ends up going to a place of darkness that you aren’t expecting. It was really quite surprising.”

The movie was directed by Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala, and they created something quite disturbing and claustrophobic. The film stars Richard Armitage (The Hobbit) as the father, Alicia Silverstone (Clueless) as his ex-wife, Riley Keough (Mad Max) as Grace, and Jaeden Martell (IT) and Lia McHug as the two siblings.

The Lodge is set to be released this fall.

Gambit Cancelled and New Mutants Pushed Back Again

Gambit Cancelled and New Mutants Pushed Back Again

Gambit cancelled and New Mutants pushed back again

In moves that may come as a surprise to no one, Walt Disney Pictures has pushed the Fox film The New Mutants back once again from its summer release date of August 2, 2019 to April 3, 2020, where it currently has no competition. They have also pulled the Channing Tatum’s Gambit film completely from their schedule, as they have for Untitled Fox Marvel projects previously dated for June 26, 2020, October 2, 2020 and March 5, 2021. Those untitled dates could have been originally earmarked for projects like Drew Goddard’s X-Force and Noah Hawley’s Dr. Doom that now appear to have no future under Disney rule.

RELATED: Director Gore Verbinski has pulled out of the Gambit movie

Gambit tore through a number of directors in development (Rupert Wyatt, Doug Liman, Gore Verbinski) while struggling to get off the ground for years. The last we heard was Tatum himself was angling to make his directorial debut on the project, which he would have also headlined as Remy LeBeau from a script by his longtime Free Association production partner Reid Carolin (Magic Mike, Magic Mike XXL).

Meanwhile for director Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) this will mark the fourth release delay for The New Mutants, originally meant to drop on April 13, 2018 and then delayed to February 22, 2019 before landing the summer 2019 date it just lost. It has been reported that the reshoots intended to make the film scarier have not yet taken place, and there is strong word that the film will never see play in cinemas and will go straight to streaming service Hulu.

New Mutants stars Anya Taylor-Joy (SplitThe Witch) as Magik, Maisie Williams (Game of Thronesgen:LOCK) as Wolfsbane, Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things) as Cannonball, Henry Zaga (13 Reasons Why) as Sunspot, and Blu Hunt as Mirage.

The New Mutants adapts the monthly comic book series of the same name that launched in 1982. Created by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod, The New Mutants follows on a group of teenage mutants as heroes in training in the Marvel Universe. The feature is expected to be a departure from the sci-fi-action spectacle of other X-Men films and is instead being described as a “Stephen King meets John Hughes”-style horror movie.

In November 2017, ComingSoon.net exclusively revealed a leaked concept animatic from the film, which features Wolfsbane, Magic and Cannonball facing Demon Bear.

Golden Globe nominee Stephan James (Homecoming, If Beale Street Could Talk, Race) and Oscar nominee Laurence Fishburne (John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, Black-ish, The Mule) are set to lead Sony TV’s #Freerayshawn, an upcoming drama series from Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, The Equalizer, The Magnificent Seven), Deadline has confirmed.

#Freerayshawn tells the story of a young, black Iraq War veteran named Rayshawn (James) who is set up by New Orleans police on a drug deal, runs for his life, and takes refuge inside his apartment building with his girlfriend and child. With New Orleans PD and the SWAT team outside ready to storm his home, a social media frenzy begins as community members and news outlets arrive at the scene. During this growing mayhem, a sympathetic cop named Steven Poincy (Fishburne) plays the role of negotiator, and, over the course of one brutally stressful day, Steven tries to get Rayshawn to calmly surrender in order to avoid an escalation of unnecessary violence.

Jasmine Cephas Jones (Blindspotting), Skeet Ulrich (Riverdale), and Annabeth Gish (The Haunting of Hill House) will co-star in the series. Jones plays Tyisha, Ulrich will play Sgt. Mike Trout, and Gish plays Detective Lincoln.

Avatar Sequel Release Dates Pushed Back Multiple Years by Disney!

Avatar sequel release dates pushed back multiple years by Disney!

Those waiting for James Cameron’s upcoming Avatar sequel saga are going to have to wait a bit longer than previously anticipated. Walt Disney Pictures just announced that the first sequel Avatar 2 has been pushed back a full year from December 18, 2020 to December 17, 2021. Avatar 3 has been pushed back two years December 17, 2021 to December 22, 2023. Avatar 4 will open two years after that on December 19, 2025 (originally December 20, 2024) and Avatar 5 will drop on December 17, 2027 (originally December 19, 2025).

Cameron had already revealed the caveat that they won’t make 4 and 5 if 2 and 3 aren’t successful. Whether all these date changes are being made to accommodate additional work on the films from the famously meticulous and budget-busting Cameron, or to allow room for other Disney films is not yet clear. Stay tuned for more info as it comes!

Returning for 20th Century Fox and Lightstorm Entertainment‘s Avatar sequels are Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Joel David Moore, Dileep Rao, Stephen Lang, Matt Gerald and Sigourney Weaver. Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Oona Chaplin and Michelle Yeoh are also joining the sequels. Cameron explained that Stephen Lang’s Colonel Miles Quaritch is coming back for all four sequels and will be the main villain throughout the story. Filming officially started on Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 on September 25, 2017.

Shortly after, James Cameron announced young cast members for the sequel, which include the Sully family and children from the Metkayina Na’vi clan who live near ocean reefs, led by Tonowari (Cliff Curtis). The only actor who will appear in live-action playing a non-CGI character is Jack Champion as Javier “Spider” Socorro, a human teen born at the Hell’s Gate military complex seen in the first film.

Released in 2009, the first Avatar film remains the highest-grossing film worldwide with over $2.7 billion in box office grosses. Titanic was previously the record holder with $2.186 billion worldwide.

Wild Spoiler-Filled Details About Emperor Palpatine and Kylo Ren’s Story Arc in STAR WARS: RISE OF SKYWALKER

wild-spoiler-filled-details-about-emperor-palpatine-and-kylo-rens-story-arc-in-star-wars-rise-of-skywalker-social.jpg

For those of you who are interested in some big and interesting spoiler-filled details regarding the story arc for Emperor Palpatine in Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker, we’ve got some news for you today. If you don’t want to have anything spoiled for you, I suggest you stop reading now.

The following news comes from Making Star Wars and they say the info comes from a reliable and solid source. So while this is still only a rumor for now, there is a good chance that this intel could be legit and if it is, there are huge spoilers.

Personally, I kind of wish I didn’t read it, but I did, and it’s pretty surprising stuff!

spolier-alert.png

Ok, so according to the report, Matt Smith will be playing kind of a reincarnated version of Emperor Palpatine, which might explain why the actor has been so weird about saying that he’s in the movie.

That’s not all though, there are details about the final act of the film and it includes a fight scene between Kylo Ren and Smith’s Palpatine and things end up getting pretty wild.

  • The rumor is that Matt Smith isn’t Palpatine reborn or rejuvenated but a dark side acolyte.

  • However, during The Rise of Skywalker, Smith’s character is willfully possessed by the spirit of Emperor Palpatine.

  • During the final act of the film Rey and Kylo team up to fight the Palpatine possessed Matt Smith.

  • The two-on-one duel is pretty intense for the duo.

Again, if you don’t want any major spoilers or the movie ruined for you, stop reading now. I’m serious. These next plot points deal with the end of the film. So, just to be safe, here’s another spoiler warning!

spolier-alert.png

Still here? Ok… because this next part of the info tells us that Kylo Ren will dig deep to try and redeem himself for the things that he has done.

Here we go…

  • Eventually Kylo Ren kills Palpatine’s host body

  • Palpatine’s spirit then jumps into Kylo Ren’s body.

  • Kylo Ren is strong enough to not lose total control of his mental faculties.

  • Kylo Ren struggles to take control of his body but subdues himself and his weapon while beckoning Rey to kill him.

  • Kylo does the right thing and becomes Ben Solo again as he sacrifices himself to kill Palpatine.

  • Rey having never toyed with the dark side like Kylo Ren and the acolyte did means Palpatine has body evil enough to inhabit.

Damn… that’s going to be interesting to see play out. The report goes on to say:

It has a very exorcist type of vibe to it. I do believe Rey does something pivotal that ends Kylo. But I haven’t been able to discern if that is actually him dying or ceasing to be Kylo Ren and becoming Ben Solo. Does it have to do with that intervention we heard about? Or is Ben back for entire fight but still susceptible to Palpatine because of his past actions and struggles?

For me it’s hard to find redemption in a character like Kylo Ren. He killed his own father! He killed Han Solo! I just won’t be able to forgive that. I was kind of hoping that they wouldn’t go with the redemption angle of Kylo, just because I don’t think the fans will fully buy into it after what he’s done.

Personally I really hope that this isn’t true, and that this information is wrong.

If you’ve decided to read this far, what do you think about how Kylo’s story arc will possibly come to an end? Or how Palpatine’s character will be handled?
