Ahead of today’s Disney+ presentation at the D23 Expo, the studio has released posters for some of their upcoming projects including The Mandalorian, Lady and the Tramp, Noelle, High School Musical The Series, and The World According to Jeff Goldblum.

Obviously, the project that everyone is most excited about is Lucasfilm and Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian!

The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal (Narcos) as “a lone Mandalorian gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy.” It also includes Gina Carano (Deadpool) as Cara Dune, Carl Weathers (Predator) as Greef Carga, Omid Abtahi (American Gods) as Dr. Pershing, Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man), as well as Nick Nolte, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, and Werner Herzog in undisclosed roles, and Taika Waititi as the voice of the droid IG-11.

The plot of the show is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order and here’s the synopsis:

After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.

Lady and Tramp will be voiced by Tessa Thompson and Justin Theroux. They will be joined by Benedict Wong as Bull and Ashley Jensen as Jackie. Janelle Monáe has jumped on board as Peg, the pound dog who was voiced by Peggy Lee in the original animated film in 1955. Kiersey Clemons will play Darling, and Thomas Mann will play Jim Dear, the owner of Lady, the refined and pampered cocker spaniel who falls in love with Tramp. Then there’s Yvette Nicole Brown as Darling’s dog-hating Aunt Sarah.

The story follows “a pampered cocker spaniel named Lady whose comfortable life slips away once her owners have a baby. When, after some tense circumstances, Lady finds herself on the loose and out on the street, she is befriended and protected by the tough stray mutt Tramp. A romance begins to blossom between the two dogs, but their many differences, along with more drama at Lady’s household, threaten to keep them apart.”

Noelle is a Disney+ original movie that stars Anna Kendrick and Bill Hader. The story follows Kendrick as the daughter of Santa Claus, and she ventures out into the real world when her brother Nick goes missing. He is supposed to take over for Santa. This looks like a fake movie, but it’s real. I guess Disney is tapping into the Hallmark market.

I know you all don’t care about this one, but High School Musical: The Musical will be about a high school production of High School Musical.

“Disney says the show will be shot as a docu-style series and follow a group of students at East High who stage a performance of High School Musical for their winter theater production only to realize that as much drama happens off-stage as on stage. Every episode will feature a new rendition of a song from High School Musical as well as an original song.”

The World According to Jeff Goldblum is gonna be fun! It centers on the actor as he offers a full behind-the-scenes story of everyday items like speakers, tattoos, gaming, sneakers, bicycles, jewelry, ice cream, and more!

All of these movies and shows will be available when Disney+ launches on November 12, 2019.

John Carpenter’s TALES FOR A HALLOWEEN NIGHT Horror Series Is Still Alive and in Development

john-carpenters-tales-for-a-halloween-night-horror-series-is-still-alive-and-in-development-social.jpg

Earlier this year is was reported that John Carpenter’s horror series Tales For a Halloween Night had been scrapped by Syfy. The series would be an adaptation of the comic book property of the same name that Carpenter produced.

One of the things I was most excited for regarding this series was that Carpenter going to direct some episodes! So when I got word that the project was being shut down, I was pretty disappointed.

Well, it looks like the series isn’t completely dead after all! During a recent interview with CB, Carpenter was asked if the development of the show was completely dead and he responded with, “Oh no, it’s alive at Paramount now.”

That’s great news! When asked if still was looking at writing, directing, and producing episodes of the series, Carpenter said, “We’ll see. We’re just getting cranked up.”

Here’s the official synopsis::

From John Carpenter, the man who brought you the cult classic horror film Halloween and all of the scares beyond comes the ultimate graphic novel anthology of tales to warm your toes by on a dark and stormy October night! Carpenter brings together storytellers from the worlds of movies, novels and comics for a collection of tales featuring graveyards, sunken ships, creepy crawlers and ghosts to haunt your dreams at night!

The whole reason the project fell apart at Syfy in the first place was because the creative team didn’t like the direction that Syfy wanted to take the series. Storm King Production’s Sandy King previously explained:

“We had one [project] where SYFY wanted Tales for a Halloween Night but it quickly became evident that they just wanted the title. And I really saw a disaster on the horizon. So I went, ‘No, no, no. This is not a good idea.’ It was a greenlit series but if it’s not gonna be something cool for the fans and for the eventual audience, then I don’t think it’s a good idea to do it.

“And that’s something you really have to be willing to walk away from. When you look at it and go, ‘Nah, no, it’s not good enough.’ There are times you just have to sit there and go, ‘Seriously, why did you think that was a good idea?’ And if you’re me, you have to be prepared for everybody to be pissed off about it.”

It was confirmed at the time that the project was dead and there was no indication that it would be reworked, so I’m happy that’s not the case and that the series is moving forward!

Miramax Picks Up a New Horror-Thriller Called LIMBO

Screenshot+%2854%29.jpg

Miramax has picked up the horror-thriller Limbo, written by Matthew Jennison and Chris Peckover, with Peckover on board to direct. Deadline reports the following synopsis for the film:

Limbo tells the terrifying story of a young mother whose body becomes possessed by something evil, rendering her a disembodied spirit and a ghost in her own house. As this demonic double takes over her life and threatens to harm her family, she must find a way to protect her loved ones while also finding a way back to her body before it’s too late.

Bill Block, from Miramax, had this to say about the project:

“We are witnessing a renaissance of quality horror films at the moment,” exclaimed Miramax’s Bill Block. “It’s a genre that continues to captivate global audiences. Having a smart script with a big idea and some fierce partners in Tim Palen, Snoot Entertainment and a fresh voice in Chris Peckover – LIMBO is something we’re really excited about.”

We don’t have any casting news yet, but this sounds like a new story for the horror genre to tell. Does this sound like a story that piques your interest? Who would you like to see cast in the film?

The 5 most glaring mistakes in film

Comingsoon.net has some minor qualms with the way these films were made. Check out what we found in the gallery below!

The art of filmmaking is a collaborative process—no one person is responsible for each and every component falling into place. It’s a group effort, from the cast to the crew and everyone in between. The best and worst parts fall on the shoulders of everyone involved, no matter how high those highs or how low those lows end up being.

That’s why, whenever movies happen to have some really big mess-ups, there’s not one person who can take sole blame. Continuity errors, on-screen goofs, unconvincing props—the entire team is responsible. So, without pointing any fingers, here’s a compilation of some of the most glaring mistakes in film history.

GLOW Season 3 Episode 7 Recap

GLOW Season 3 Episode 7 Recap

GLOW Season 3 Episode 7 Recap

In the previous episode of Netflix’s GLOW, the ladies went camping, and Ruth and Tammé convinced Debbie to bring her son to Vegas. In GLOW Season 3 Episode 7, Sam took Justine to meet studio execs in Hollywood, while Rhonda met Bash’s mother, Birdie.

Married to the Title

Sam had called in favors to get Justine and him meetings with studio execs. One wanted to change too much of her script, including having Michael J. Fox play the female main character. Another exec only took the meeting to tell Sam off. He wasn’t interested in even reading Justine’s script. At their last stop, the exec wanted to make the movie as is. He loved it.

During the last meeting, Sam felt pain and shortness of breath. Justine wanted to celebrate with him, but he had her take his car to celebrate with her friends in town. He asked someone on the street to call an ambulance; he’d had a heart attack. The doctor advised him to quit alcohol and cigarettes and to exercise more. Sam was already doing that.

Back at the house, Justine was angry with him for ditching her. She’d wanted to celebrate with him since they would be making a movie together. Justine had stipulated that Sam would direct her film, which he hadn’t realized. Sam agreed that they should celebrate together.

Tex

GLOW Season 3 Episode 7 Recap

Debbie had brought Randy to Vegas. She worked in the hallway while he played. Jenny asked Debbie for a raise to compensate for her additional work on the costumes. Debbie went to Bash, who was resting his voice. She took the opportunity to yell at him that she could no longer trust him. He agreed to give Jenny her raise.

Randy wandered into the elevator and onto the casino floor. A man picked him up until Debbie found them. It was JJ, who had sat next to Debbie on the plane. He asked her to dinner. Though he was from Wyoming, Debbie called him Tex. They had an enjoyable evening, and Debbie asked if he wanted to come upstairs. JJ declined but wanted to see her again the next night. Debbie thought that was too fast.

Birdie

GLOW Season 3 Episode 7 Recap

Bash’s mother, Birdie, came to visit and meet Rhonda. She was uptight and suspicious of Rhonda’s motives for marrying Bash. Birdie took Rhonda shopping. Rhonda confessed that she married Bash for a green card. Birdie had assumed it was for his money. Rhonda explained that Bash wasn’t good with money, so she helped him. Later, Birdie revealed to Bash that, by marrying, he gained access to his entire trust fund of $40 million. In her own way, she seemed to approve of Rhonda.

Review: READY OR NOT Is an Absolute Blast and One of My Favorite Movies of the Year

Well, looks like I can add another film to my list of favorite movies of 2019! While I knew that the horror/comedy Ready or Not was going deliver some decent entertainment, I didn’t expect the Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett-directed film to be as great as it was!

Ready or Not as a freakin’ blast to watch! From beginning to end I had a smile stretched across my face. I enjoyed the film so damn much that it’ll definitely end up on my top 10 list of favorite movies of the year!

If you’ve seen the trailer, you have a good idea of what happens. The story follows a young bride (Samara Weaving) as she joins her new husband’s (Mark O’Brien) rich, eccentric family (Adam Brody, Henry Czerny, Andie MacDowell) in a time-honored tradition that turns into a lethal game of hide and seek with everyone fighting for their survival.

The trailer is pretty crazy and does a great job of selling the film to audiences. And while it shows a lot of great footage, they saved a lot of the best stuff for the moviegoing experience. I loved how this story played out, and it all led up to a glorious bloody ending that audiences are going to flip for!

The film takes the audience on a brutally bloody and violent ride through one of the most horrific games of hide and seek ever. If you’re not a blood and guts kind of person, prepare for some super cringe-worthy moments that will have you burying your head in your hands. It’s also packed full of hilarious comedy that had the audience laughing all the way through the film.

The highlight of the movie, though, is hands down, the film’s star… Samara Weaving. She was charming as hell, and I loved how she handled bringing her character to life. She is the film’s anchor, and within the first 10 minutes I was hooked on her character and rooting for her all throughout the movie! You just don’t want her to die because she’s so lovable! The audience wants her to survive the nightmarish ordeal that she finds herself in, and she certainly manages to kick some ass as she fights for her life.

The story come salong with a few twists and surprises that you don’t see coming and it all comes to a head during the climax and the film’s brilliant “holy shit!” ending.

Go see this movie! You’re gonna love it! If you’ve already seen the movie, let us know what you thought!

Joaquin Phoenix Opens Up About His Hesitation to Play the Joker and the Challenges He Faced Developing the Role

joker.jpg

Joaquin Phoenix has created a lot of buzz surrounding his upcoming performance as the title role in the Todd Phillips-directed film Joker, an origin story centered on the villain we only get glimpses of in Batman films and series. Phoenix plays Arthur Fleck, a disturbed man with a troubled past and tortured psyche who eventually turns into the Joker we know, but with a deeper insight.

The method actor recently opened up about the process of accepting the role and becoming the character in an interview with Games Radar. Phoenix is known to play roles that are less in the spotlight, shying away from big box office hits, and gravitating toward story and character driven films. Phillips admits that this role was written for Phoenix, so it’s really more of his type of acting job that meets a comic-book character. When asked about accepting the role, Phoenix said:

“It took me a while [to commit]. Now, when I look back, I don’t understand why.”

Then when asked if it was out of fear for taking on an iconic role, he went on to say:

“There was a lot of fear, yeah,” he admits. “But I always say there’s motivating fear and debilitating fear. There’s the fear where you cannot make a fucking step, and there’s the kind where it’s like, ‘OK, what do we do? That’s not good enough.’ And you’re digging deeper and deeper. I love that kind of fear. It guides us, makes us work harder.”

Phoenix then said there was another reason for not taking the part, but explained that once he could see all the sides of the complex character, he felt more compelled to play it:

“I think oftentimes, in these movies, we have these simplified, reductive archetypes, and that allows for the audience to be distant from the character, just like we would do in real life, where it’s easy to label somebody as evil, and therefore say, ‘Well, I’m not that,’” he explains.

“And yet we all are guilty. We all have sinned. And I thought that here was this film, and these characters, where it wouldn’t be easy for you as an audience. There are times where you’re going to feel yourself connected to him, and rooting for him, and times when you should be repulsed by him. And I like that idea of challenging the audience, and challenging myself to explore a character like that. It’s rare to explore characters like that in any movies, but specifically in the superhero genre.”

You can read the full article in Total Film Magazine, on shelves today. Joker hits theaters on October 4, and I can’t wait! Are you excited?
