Andy Serkis (Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, Venom: Let There Be Carnage) has landed another directing gig, and he will be helming an adaptation of Elizabeth McCracken’s 1996 novel The Giant’s House.
The story follows Peggy Cort, “a young librarian who prefers the company of books to people. When James – a very, very, tall young man – visits her library, the two embark on a journey neither could have predicted.”
The novel has been hailed as “the most original and enchanting romance” and it’s said that it “transcends whimsy with the beauty of its writing.” Here’s a more detailed description from the book:
The year is 1950, and in a small town on Cape Cod twenty-six-year-old librarian Peggy Cort feels like love and life have stood her up. Until the day James Carlson Sweatt– the “over-tall” eleven-year-old boy who’s the talk of the town–walks into her library and changes her life forever. Two misfits whose lonely paths cross at the circulation desk, Peggy and James are odd candidates for friendship, but nevertheless they soon find their lives entwined in ways that neither one could have predicted. Serkis is a talented actor that has done a lot of great things with films such as The Batman, Star Wars, Planet Of The Apes and Lord Of The Rings. The films he’s directed, though, have, in my opinion, been pretty mediocre. But maybe he’ll end up doing some cool things with this story as he brings it to life.
