R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps novels have been some of the most terrifying and successful over the years and after adapting it for the small screen with the classic ’90s series and two hit films, Scholastic Entertainment is partnering with producer Neal H. The new series, which is being executive produced by Iole Lucchese, Scholastic Entertainment President and Chief Strategy Officer, will hail from the media division of the children’s book publisher and Sony Pictures TV, where Moritz’s Original Film banner is under a deal.

Goosebumps has been keeping kids and families on the edge of their seats for nearly 30 years and we’re very excited to partner with Sony Pictures Television and Neal H. Moritz to bring the enduring brand to life in a fresh new way for today’s generation,” Lucchese said in a statement. “From the world-famous book series to a full-scale licensing program and even live-action movies starring Jack Black, Goosebumps remains wildly popular and we look forward to presenting new adventures to give fans even more Goosebumps.

I loved making the Goosebumps movies and can’t wait to bring even more of R. L. Stine’s incredible stories to life through a high-end television series that speaks to both adults and kids alike,” said Moritz.

Alongside Lucchese, the series will be executive produced by Caitlin Friedman, Scholastic’s SVP & General Manager, Moritz and Original’s Head of Television Payun Shetty. Goosebumps is one of the best-selling book series of all time, having sold over 350 million English-language copies, plus international editions in 32 languages, with the original ’90s anthology series rated #1 for five consecutive seasons. The books went on to spawn two motion picture adaptations, both starring Jack Black (Jumanji: The Next Level), with the first scoring strong reviews from critics and audiences while the second received a more mixed reception, but were both financial hits.

Terry Pratchett’s Discworld Novels To Be Adapted by Narrativia, Endeavor Content & Motive Pictures

Sir Terry Pratchett’s production company Narrativia (Good Omens) has entered into a development deal with Endeavor Content and UK-based producer Motive Pictures to further adapt Pratchett’s fantasy Discworld novels, according to Deadline. The news follows BBC America’s announcement in 2018 that they had ordered an eight-part series, The Watch, based on the Discworld universe and set to star Game of Thrones’ Richard Dormer as Sam Vimes.

Narrativia, Endeavor Content, and Motive Pictures have apparently made it clear they will have an “exclusive” relationship moving forward, however, in order to create “truly authentic” adaptations. They intend to develop a series of adaptations that “remain absolutely faithful” to Pratchett’s original vision.

Pratchett’s Discworld novels consist of 41 stories and take place on a flat planet known as Discworld, balanced on the backs of four elephants which in turn stand on the back of a giant turtle.

Rhianna Pratchett, Co-Director of Narrativia, said, “Discworld teems with unique characters, witty narrative and incredible literary tropes, and we feel these should be realised on screen in a form that my father would be proud of. It’s wonderful to embark on this journey with Motive and Endeavor Content, who both perfectly share our vision to make this a reality.”

“Discworld is a national treasure and we are thrilled to be forging this new partnership with Narrativia and Endeavor Content. Together we will produce shows that will be loved by millions of Discworld fans worldwide, whilst also opening up Sir Terry Pratchett’s epic creations and legacy to new audiences. We launched Motive to make high-quality British shows with global scale and impact and I can think of nothing that exemplifies that ambition more than this hugely exciting partnership,” added Simon Maxwell, CEO of Motive Pictures.

Maxwell and Sam Lavender will serve as executive producers for Motive Pictures while Endeavor Content handles worldwide sales.

The series has sold more than 100 million copies worldwide. The first novel, The Colour of Magic, was published in 1983 with the final novel, The Shepherd’s Crown, debuting in 2015, following Pratchett’s death. The deal was notably announced today on the author’s birthday.

Pratchett’s books are said to often parody or take inspiration from writers like J.R.R. Tolkein, Robert E. Howard, H.P. Lovecraft, Charles Dickens, and William Shakespeare, as well as mythology, folklore, and fairy tales. The novels often pay homage to them with satirical parallels of cultural, political, and scientific issues.

R.L. Stine’s GOOSEBUMPS Is Getting a New Live-Action Series!

If you’re a fan of R.L. Stine’s horror book series Goosebumps, I’ve got some great news for you! There’s a new live-action series in development that will bring these creepy stories to life.

The series is set up at Scholastic Entertainment, and they have teamed up with Neal H. Moritz, the producer of the two Goosebumps films, and Sony Pictures TV. Iole Lucchese, Scholastic Entertainment President and Chief Strategy Officer said in a statement:

Goosebumps has been keeping kids and families on the edge of their seats for nearly 30 years and we’re very excited to partner with Sony Pictures Television and Neal H. Moritz to bring the enduring brand to life in a fresh new way for today’s generation. From the world-famous book series to a full-scale licensing program and even live-action movies starring Jack Black, Goosebumps remains wildly popular and we look forward to presenting new adventures to give fans even more Goosebumps.”

Moritz added:

“I loved making the Goosebumps movies and can’t wait to bring even more of R. L. Stine’s incredible stories to life through a high-end television series that speaks to both adults and kids alike.”

There was a Goosebumps series in the 90s that ran for five seasons. It was actually a well-made show that I enjoyed watching. Like the book series, the show was an anthology of stories about children finding themselves in creepy and unusual situations, typically involving supernatural elements.

It’ll be interesting and cool to see what this new series will bring to the fans. I imagine it will keep the anthology format. I actually was having a conversation about this with a friend awhile back and how if someone did come back with a new Goosebumps series it could be like the American Horror Story of family horror, where each season could consist of 10 episodes and focus on one particular story in the world of Goosebumps.

There’s a lot of potential here to do some extremely cool with a new live-action Goosebumps series that will set it apart from the one produced in the 90s!
