Asmodee Dropped SPLENDOR MARVEL Last Week

Splendor is a very fun board game from Asmodee and Space Cowboys. Well, I just found out that recently, Asmodee released Splendor Marvel and I kind of need it. I’m not sure what the tweaks to the rules are, but the idea behind the game is that you’re recruiting heroes and nabbing Infinity Stones. The game should prove to be a lot of fun and is great for 2-4 players and should last roughly 30 minutes. You can purchase it from Asmodee or your favorite game retailers for an MSRP of $49.99.

Olivia Cooke in Talks to Star in Netflix Series THE MAGIC ORDER Based on Comic Series

olivia+cooke.jpg

Olivia Cooke is in final negotiations to star in the Netflix series The Magic Order, based on the comic, which is in development at Netflix. The comic co-creator Mark Millar is set to executive-produce alongside Lindsey Beer (Sierra Burgess Is a Loser), who is also on board to write. Michael Clear (Swamp Thing) and James Wan (Aquaman) are set to produce as well.

Here’s a description of the story:

The Magic Order is based off the comic series of the same name by Mark Millar and Oliver Coipel. The series will center on a group of five families made of up wizards, and sorcerers. While they spend most of the day posing as stage magicians and escape artists that entrain the world with illusions, they spend the nights fighting against a mysterious and powerful dark magic that could otherwise threaten the world. But their unity is threatened when parts of the group turn on one another in search of more power, setting off the magical equivalent of a gang-war between the families.

Cooke is reportedly in talks to take on the role of Cordelia Moonstone, the illegitimate daughter of Leonard Moonstone, one of the magicians who work within the Magic Order.

“A misanthropic drunk with a punk-like aesthetic and a perchance for dangerous stunts, Cordelia is described as being ‘more dangerous than her father realizes.’ This could be setting the stage for the series to draw up her more rebellious qualities, which are present in the original six-issue series.”

This sounds like a fun series, and a great role for Cooke. Are you excited for this adaptation and possible casting choice?

Keegan-Michael Key, Fred Armisen, and Kristin Chenoweth Join Apple TV+’s Musical Comedy

keegan michael key.jpg

Despicable Me writers Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio and SNL producer Lorne Michaels have teamed up to make a yet-to-be titled musical comedy with SNL star Cecily Strong starring. The musical has recently filled out its cast, with Keegan-Michael Key (Dolemite is My Name)Alan Cumming (The Good Wife), Fred Armisen (Portlandia), Kristin Chenoweth (Wicked), Aaron Tveit (Graceland), Dove Cameron (Hairspray Live!), Ariana DeBose (West Side Story film adaptation), Jaime Camil (Jane the Virgin), Jane Krakowski (Dickinson), and Ann Harada (Avenue Q) all joining the project.

The “untitled comedy series follows a couple on a backpacking trip designed to reinvigorate their relationship when they discover the magical town of Schmigadoon, in which everyone acts as if they’re in a studio musical from the 1940s. They then discover that they can’t leave until they find ‘true love.’”

Here is a rundown of the character descriptions:

Key will play Josh, Melissa’s (Strong) long term, pragmatic partner, and the last person who wants to be stuck in this magical town. Cumming is Mayor Menlove, the welcoming mayor of the town with a secret (and a song) in his heart. Armisen plays Reverend Layton, the mild-mannered religious leader of the town. Chenoweth is Mildred Layton, Reverend Layton’s morally superior wife who is in everybody’s business. Tveit plays Danny Bailey, the town bad boy who is trouble with a capital T, especially once he sets his sights on Melissa. Cameron is Betsy, the farmers daughter who instantly falls for Josh. DeBose portrays Emma Tate, a more modern woman and the town’s teacher, she struggles to fit into the town’s strict mold. Camil plays Doc Lopez, the handsome town doctor with an icy heart. Krakowski plays The Countess, a stunning and sophisticated woman determined to marry Doc Lopez. Harada is Florence Menlove, the oblivious and dutiful wife of Mayor Menlove.

Paul will serve as showrunner, and will write all of the original music. Barry Sonnenfeld will direct. Strong will produce as well as star. This sounds like so much fun! I love the cast and crew involved, and I can’t wait to see this happen. The project is still in early stages, but it seems to be moving forward quickly and is set to air on Apple TV+ when it’s done. Are you interested in this musical comedy?

Netflix Pulls the Plug on Fourth and Final Season of GLOW

With the global pandemic seeing the streaming platform forced to evaluate which productions to fund and which to cancel, Netflix has elected not to proceed with the previously announced fourth and final season of GLOW, according to Deadline.

COVID has killed actual humans. It’s a national tragedy and should be our focus. COVID also apparently took down our show. Netflix has decided not to finish filming the final season of GLOW,” series creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch said in a statement. “We were handed the creative freedom to make a complicated comedy about women and tell their stories. And wrestle. And now that’s gone. There’s a lot of sh*tty things happening in the world that are much bigger than this right now. But it still sucks that we don’t get to see these 15 women in a frame together again.

Inspired by the short-lived, but beloved show from the ’80s, GLOW tells the fictional story of Ruth Wilder (Alison Brie), an out-of-work, struggling actress in 1980s Los Angeles who finds one last chance for stardom when she’s thrust into the glitter and spandex world of women’s wrestling. In addition to working with 12 Hollywood misfits, Ruth also has to compete with Debbie Eagan (Betty Gilpin) a former soap actress who left the business to have a baby, only to be sucked back into work when her picture-perfect life is not what it seems. And at the wheel is Sam Sylvia (Marc Maron), a washed-up, B-movie director who now must lead this group of women on the journey to wrestling stardom.

We’ve made the difficult decision not to do a fourth season of GLOW due to COVID, which makes shooting this physically intimate show with its large ensemble cast especially challenging,” a Netflix spokesperson said in a statement. “We are so grateful to creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, Jenji Kohan and all the writers, cast and crew for sharing this story about the incredible women of GLOW with us and the world.

Brie (CommunitySleeping With Other People) stars along with Betty Gilpin (Nurse JackieTrue Story) and Marc Maron (Almost FamousMarc Maron: Thinky Pain). Breeda Wool (UnRealMr. Mercedes) has also signed on for a recurring role in Season 3 alongside Geena Davis. GLOW was created by Liz Flahive (HomelandNurse Jackie) and Carly Mensch (Nurse JackieOrange Is The New BlackWeeds). Orange Is the New Black creator Jenji Kohan and Tara Herrmann executive producers alongside Flahive and Mensch who are serving as showrunners.

The fourth and final season was set to consist of ten episodes and was about three weeks into production and completed one episode before having to shut down in mid-March due to the global pandemic. With the wrestling nature of the show and its Los Angeles-set shooting proving to be challenging amidst the new health practices and even more costly than the already-expensive budget, sources report Netflix chose to pull the plug on shooting the final season, especially with there set to be a two and a half year gap between release that the platform felt would see a dip in audience interest.
