Fantastic Trailer For Robert Zemeckis’ Film Adaptation of THE WITCHES Coming To HBO Max

Fantastic Trailer For Robert Zemeckis' Film Adaptation of THE WITCHES Coming To HBO Max1

Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for director Robert Zemeckis’ film adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The Witches and they’ve announced that it will be skipping theaters. Instead, the film will be released on HBO Max on October 22nd!

Roald Dahl’s beloved story has been reimagined for a modern audience and it stars Anne Hathaway as the Grand High Witch and Octavia Spencer along with Stanley Tucci. It will also feature Kristin Chenoweth, Codie-Lei Eastick, and Jahzir Bruno with Chris Rock lending his voice for adult narration.

Zemeckis’s visually innovative film tells the darkly humorous and heartwarming tale of a young orphaned boy who, in late 1967, goes to live with his loving Grandma in the rural Alabama town of Demopolis. As the boy and his grandmother encounter some deceptively glamorous but thoroughly diabolical witches, she wisely whisks our young hero away to an opulent seaside resort. Regrettably, they arrive at precisely the same time that the world’s Grand High Witch has gathered her fellow cronies from around the globe—undercover—to carry out her nefarious plans.

Zemekis also co-wrote the script for the film with Guillermo del Toro and Kenya Barris, and it looks like they’ve come up with a fantastic and fun adaptation! I enjoyed what this trailer showed off and I’ll be looking forward to watching the movie! Zemeckis always tends to make great films and I don’t think he’s going to let us down with this.

Alfonso Cuaron (The Revenant, Gravity) and Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water, Pan’s Labyrinth) are also executive producers on the project.

Guy Ritchie’s THE GENTLEMAN Is Being Adapted Into a TV Series by Miramax TV

guy-ritchies-the-gentleman-is-being-adapted-into-a-tv-series-by-miramax-tv3

Guy Ritchie’s 2019 crime action-comedy The Gentleman is getting a series adaptation thanks to Miramax TV. I thought the movie was awesome, and it was great to see Ritchie go back to his early film roots with the project.

Ritchie isn’t done with the story yet as he is set to write, direct, and produce the series. The Gentlemen movie follows American expat Mickey Pearson (Matthew McConaughey), who built a highly profitable marijuana empire in London. When word gets out that he’s looking to cash out of the business forever, it triggers plots, schemes, bribery, and blackmail in an attempt to steal his domain out from under him.

What’s interesting is that The Gentlemen was originally pitched as a TV series before it ended up being developed as a movie. I assume the series will tell the same story, but in a different, more detailed way. The movie was filled with so many fun and interesting characters, and what I like about the story being developed as a series is that it will be able to flesh out and play with these characters a lot more.

Miramax’s Head of Worldwide Television, Marc Helwig, said in a statement:

“Miramax Television is thrilled to break new creative ground in our partnership with Guy Ritchie on The Gentlemen. One of the most distinctive and prolific filmmakers working today and someone whose creativity I have admired for many years, we couldn’t be more excited to bring the cinematic journey of The Gentlemen forth into the realm of global premium television.”

The movie also starred Colin Farrell, Charlie Hunnam, Henry Golding and Hugh Grant. But, I imagine Ritchie will bring in a whole new cast for the series. I do want to say, Farrell was my favorite part of the film.

The Gentlemen joins the recently announced series adaptation of another Miramax movie with an A-list filmmaker attached, Mimic, directed and exec produced by Paul WS Anderson.

John Cena Explains How The Story For F9: THE FAST SAGA Will Weave The Legacy Together

We’ve got a long way to go before we see F9: The Fast Saga hit theaters. While the film is pretty much finished, due to the pandemic the release date was pushed back a full year! Hopefully, the film will be worth the wait.

John Cena stars in the film as Dom’s brother Jakob. We don’t know how the story of these two characters is going to play out, but according to Cena, the story the film tells is going to make longtime fans of the Fast & Furious franchise happy. While on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Cena talks about what drew him to the project and explains the extended legacy of the series will be paid off in a few ways in the new film:

“Fast 9, very similar to BTS, they have this global fanbase because they’ve been making these movies for twenty years. It’s been a legacy project. And the newest installment — everybody knows Fast is going to kill it when it comes to action. The thing I love about Fast 9 is people are going to see it weave that legacy together. It’s not nearly ‘What is Fast gonna do next for action;’ it is action on the edge of your seat, but story. If you’re a fan of the franchise, you get questions answered, you get new questions you can develop, it’s another foothold to the narrative. That’s the stuff that I love.”

Fallon went on to ask what it was like for Cena to step onto the set of the film and he likened it to stepping into the WWE locker room:

“Walking into the set of Fast was very similar to walking into the WWE locker room,. You have men and women who risk their lives for a living and have curated this experience that they’re very proud of, so when we get a newcomer to walk in, you can’t help it but (think) ‘Man I hope this person works out because I’m killing myself for this.'”

F9 was directed by Justin Lin and it also stars Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, Cena, Helen Mirren, Charlize Theron, Cardi B, and Ozuna. Here’s the official description:

No matter how fast you are, no one outruns their past. Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto is leading a quiet life off the grid with Letty and his son, little Brian, but they know that danger always lurks just over their peaceful horizon. This time, that threat will force Dom to confront the sins of his past if he’s going to save those he loves most. His crew joins together to stop a world-shattering plot led by the most skilled assassin and high-performance driver they’ve ever encountered: a man who also happens to be Dom’s forsaken brother, Jakob (John Cena, next year’s The Suicide Squad).’

“F9 sees the return of Justin Lin as director, who helmed the third, fourth, fifth and sixth chapters of the series when it transformed into a global blockbuster. The action hurtles around the globe—from London to Tokyo, from Central America to Edinburgh, and from a secret bunker in Azerbaijan to the teeming streets of Tblisi. Along the way, old friends will be resurrected, old foes will return, history will be rewritten, and the true meaning of family will be tested like never before.”

F9 is currently set to premiere in theaters on April 2, 2021.

A Young Couple Escape To The Woods For a Nice Relaxing Nightmare in Trailer For NO SUCH THING AS MONSTERS

I’ve got an unsettling trailer here for you to watch for an Australian horror thriller titled  No Such Thing As Monsters. It’s the kind of movie that will make you not want to go to the woods to relax because of the horrors that await.

The story follows a young couple, Mary, and David, who “escape to the woods for a weekend away of rest and relaxation. Mary does not know it, but this is the weekend in which David plans to propose. Everything changes however when they encounter a psychopathic family and they’re forced to fight back to survive.”

The movie comes from director Stuart Stanton and the cast includes Angel Giuffria, Matthew Clarke, Michaela Celeste, Georgia Crisfield-Smith, Rebecca Fortuna, Jacob Fyfe, Rohana Hayes, and David Macrae.

In the tradition of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and The Hills Have Eyes, No Such Thing As Monsters premieres On Demand and DVD October 27th from Uncork’d Entertainment.

GAME OF THRONES Author George R.R. Martin Talks About His Least Favorite Scene in the Show’s Run

game+of+thrones+hunting+guys.jpg

Game of Thrones was a major phenomenon for HBO, bringing in the cable company’s best numbers of all time as fans tuned in to watch the series. The first few seasons started off strong, following the stories set up in the novels by George R.R. Martin, but as they strayed from the source material, fans wavered, ending in a final season of major disappointment. But when Martin was recently asked about his least favorite part about the series, his answer was surprising.

In an interview with EW, Martin explained that his least favorite scene took place in Season 1, before the scale of the show was met with the budget it ended up with.

“Four guys walking on foot through the woods carrying spears and Robert is giving Renly s—. In the books, Robert goes off hunting, we get word he was gored by a boar, and they bring him back and he dies. So I never did [a hunting scene]. But I knew what a royal hunting party was like. There would have been a hundred guys. There would have been pavilions. There would have been huntsmen. There would have been dogs. There would have been horns blowing — that’s how a king goes hunting! He wouldn’t have just been walking through the woods with three of his friends holding spears hoping to meet a boar. But at that point, we couldn’t afford horses or dogs or pavilions.”

So it basically just came down to the logistics. Martin is a very in-depth writer, and the fact that he knew how that scene should have looked drove him crazy. But if that’s his biggest complaint, that’s not too bad. I’m sure the details of that scene don’t stick with fans as their biggest complaint throughout the series!

Where do you think Game of Thrones went wrong?

Trailer For Showtime’s John Belushi Documentary Film BELUSHI

Showtime has released a trailer for their upcoming documentary film, Belushi, which will chronicle the life of iconic comedian John Belushi.

John Belushi was a hilariously talented comedian. He got his big break on Saturday Night Live and National Lampoon’s Animal House. The guy was filled with so much freakin’ energy and he exploded every time he performed. But, he was locked in a battle with his inner demons and his life spiraled out of control with drugs and alcohol, which ultimately led to his tragic death at 33.

The documentary comes from award-winning filmmaker R.J. Cutler “about the too-short life of John Belushi, the once-in-a-generation talent who captured the hearts and funny-bones of audiences worldwide.” Told using previously unheard audiotapes, this film examines Belushi’s extraordinary life in the words of his collaborators, friends, and family, including Dan Aykroyd, Jim Belushi, Penny Marshall, Lorne Michaels, Carrie Fisher, Chevy Chase, Harold Ramis, Jane Curtin, Ivan Reitman and his high school sweetheart and later wife Judy Belushi.

“From his early years growing up in Wheaton, Illinois, John Belushi showed an extraordinary talent for comedy and music. It was a visit to the Second City theater in Chicago where he discovered his true calling, and from that moment John became an unstoppable and pioneering force in the comedy world. From National Lampoon’s Lemmings and Radio Hour to one of the founding cast members on Saturday Night Live, his insatiable drive kept the candle burning at both ends.”

“John simultaneously appeared on SNL each Saturday night while filming Animal House and forming a band, The Blues Brothers. The result: By age thirty Belushi was on the #1 television show, had the #1 comedy in movie history and the #1 record album in the world. But as John’s fame grew, so did his demons, and not even Judy could save him from the drug use that would eventually take his life.”

“This film captures the complicated and singular essence of a beloved American icon who changed culture and comedy forever.”

Belushi  will play at Cannes Classics 2020, the Chicago Film Festival and AFI Fest before premiering on Showtime on November 22, 2020 at 9:00 P.M. ET.

New Posters for THE HAUNTING OF BLY MANOR Horror Series Reveal Episode Titles and Teasing Captions

Netflix has released a series of new posters for The Haunting of Bly Manor. This is a creepy-looking horror series that looks like it will bring on the scares, yet at the same time tell a beautiful story just like The Haunting at Hill House.

This series tells a story that is described as gothic romance. It was explained that while Hill House “was the story of family struggle and trauma, Bly Manor is about broken hearts that never heal and tragic star-crossed romance.”

The posters below feature the titles of each of the episodes in the series and each one comes with a little teasing caption. Bly Manor is an adaptation of the 1898 novel by Henry James, The Turn of the Screw. It also will feature story elements from many of James’ other horror stories. In fact, many of the titles of these episodes in the series are titles of James’ stories. But, it doesn’t mean that the episodes will tell those stories.

The upcoming series comes from The Haunting of Hill House creator Mike Flanagan and producer Trevor Macy, and this is the synopsis that was shared:

THE HAUNTING OF BLY MANOR, the next highly anticipated chapter of The Haunting anthology series, set in 1980s England. After an au pair’s tragic death, Henry Wingrave (Henry Thomas) hires a young American nanny (Victoria Pedretti) to care for his orphaned niece and nephew (Amelie Bea Smith, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) who reside at Bly Manor with the estate’s chef Owen (Rahul Kohli), groundskeeper Jamie (Amelia Eve) and housekeeper, Mrs. Grose (T’Nia Miller). But all is not as it seems at the manor, and centuries of dark secrets of love and loss are waiting to be unearthed in this chilling gothic romance. At Bly Manor, dead doesn’t mean gone.

The series will premiere on Netflix on October 9th, 2020.
