Fox to Premiere New Series HOUSEBROKEN and Season 2 of DUNCANVILLE This May

duncanville_ep6.jpg

Fox is expanding their animation roster this summer. In addition to the premiere of Season 2 of Duncanville (a show that I enjoyed and saw promise in), this summer will see a new show called Housebroken. Housebroken stars Will Forte (The Great North), Tony Hale (Arrested Development), and Lisa Kudrow (Friends) as neighborhood pets and stray animals that provide a different view at human behavior. Kudrow will play the poodle Honey whose living room serves as a place for the group to gather and support one another. One of Honey’s big problems is her arranged marriage to the sloppy St. Bernard Chief voiced by Nat Faxon (The Way Way Back).

Other members of the group include the sex-positive tortoise Shel voiced by Forte, Sharon Horgan’s (Catastrophe) aging Persian cat beauty queen Tabitha, a street smart cat named The Gray One who is voiced by Jason Mantzoukas (The Good Place), a chonky and co-dependent cat named Chico voiced by Sam Richardson (Veep), and Hale’s sweater-wearing terrier who has to hump everything twice named Diablo. That’s not the whole cast though. Clea DuVall (Veep) will voice a power hungry fake service dog Corgi named Elsa, Bresha Webb (The Last O.G.) voices a psychotic hamster named Nibbles, Hale also voices George Clooney’s pig who is obsessed with status and named Max, Greta Lee (Russian Doll) will voice a horny goldfish named Bubbles, Maria Bamford (Big Mouth) will voice Honey and Chief’s owner Jill, and Tchotchke will be a silent and possibly magical loris.

HOUSEBROKEN is an irreverent look at human behavior, but told through the filter of an offbeat group of neighborhood pets. Throughout the series, the show centers on the pets’ dysfunctional relationships and their skewed world view, while exploring relevant societal issues in fun and unique ways.

Housebroken is created and executive produced by DuVall, Gabrielle Allan, and Jennifer Crittenden. Housebroken will premiere on Fox at 9 PM ET/PT on May 31. Meanwhile, Duncanville will return for its second season with a special two-episode premiere featuring a mini Parks and Recreation reunion on May 23 at 8:30 PM ET/PT. After the premiere, Duncanville will move to Monday’s at 9:30 PM ET/PT immediately after Housebroken.

The adventures continue in the Season Two premiere of DUNCANVILLE airing Sunday, May 23 (8:30-9:00 PM ET/PT), when the Harris family takes their first vacation. The episode features “Parks and Recreation” stars Adam Scott, Aubrey Plaza, Retta and Nick Offerman making guest voice appearances. Other storylines in the new season include Duncan saying the one thing no kid should ever say to their dad, which shifts their power dynamic; Duncan and Kimberly being sent to therapy camp; Jing and Jack starting a child birthday band together, with Annie managing them; and Duncan racing stock cars.

I am excited for both of these shows. What do you think of the premise of Housebroken? Are you excited for the return of Duncanville?

The Comedy Series PARTY DOWN is Getting a Revival at Starz

the-comedy-series-party-down-is-getting-a-revival-at-starz.jpg

The 2009 comedy series Party Down, which starred Ken Marino, Adam Scott, Jane Lynch, Martin Starr, Ryan Hansen, Lizzy Caplan and Megan Mullally, is getting a revival series thanks to Starz.

The original series centers on a group of struggling actors and writers trying to make it in Hollywood, relegated to working for a catering service to make ends meet. Each of the season’s ten episodes was built around a different catering event for the Party Down crew.

It was a great show that I encourage you to watch if you haven’t already. The revival is being developed by the same creative team at the original series, which includes Rob Thomas, John Enbom, Paul Rudd and Dan Etheridge.

There’s no word on if the original cast will come back for the revival, but I certainly hope that they do. But, the careers of these actors have blown up, so I imagine it wouldn’t be easy to get them back together again. But, Thomas did previously say he’d like to find a way:

“At the end of 2019, the Party Down cast and producers were all reunited at a retrospective for the show hosted by Vulture. We had such a good time that we wanted to find a way to get the team back together again. The cast is so busy these days that finding a window where we can do it may require trigonometry, but we’re determined to make it happen.”

Maybe they actually found a way to make it happen! Enbom will serve as showrunner on what is looking to be a six-part limited series. Christina Davis, President of Original Programming for Starz said in a statement:

“Before the cast of Party Down became well-known television and movie actors and award winners, they were all wearing the same pink bowties as part of a less than competent team of Los Angeles cater-waiters while chasing their dreams of stardom on the Starz series. Fans have been waiting more than ten years for this revival to happen and we’re thrilled to be in development with Rob, Paul, Dan and John at the helm.”

It’ll be interesting to see how this comes together. Are you happy to hear that a Party Down revival series is being made?

Review: BRZRKR #1 Is Freaking Brutal

brzrkr#1.jpg

Keanu Reeves’s comic debut in BRZRKR #1 came out recently, and BOOM! Studios has been kind enough to send me a copy to read. The comic is co-written by Reeves and Matt Kindt with art by Ron Garney. I’ll do my best not to spoil any major plot points, but you can grab your copy of the comic now from your local comic shop or other outlets including comiXology (affiliate link).

The man known only as Berzerker is half-mortal and half-God, cursed and compelled to violence… even at the sacrifice of his sanity. But after wandering the world for centuries, Berzerker may have finally found a refuge — working for the U.S. government to fight the battles too violent and too dangerous for anyone else. In exchange, Berzerker will be granted the one thing he desires — the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence… and how to end it.

If you like your comics nice and gory, BRZRKR is a perfect read. There is so much blood and gore with Berzerker even ripping out a guy’s heart. If I’m honest, this is too much for me. I know some people will like it or won’t mind it, but it is a very bloody comic.

The story is okay so far, but I would’ve liked a little more of the story and a lot less blood. At the beginning, we basically just get Berzerker going through and just murdering a bunch of dudes and then the end is when we start learning the story. It seems interesting, I just would’ve liked a little more to really hook me in.

I probably won’t keep reading BRZRKR, but that’s not because it’s bad. It just is too hardcore for my tastes. The art is good, the story has promise, and everyone loves Reeves. What did you think of BRZRKR #1?

Review: KING IN BLACK: CAPTAIN AMERICA #1 Tackles Inner Demons with Gorgeous Art

Marvel Comics unleashed King in Black: Captain America #1 this week and were kind enough to send me a copy to read. I will try to not spoil anything for fans, but if you haven’t read the comic yet, you can get it from your local comic shop or through other outlets including comiXology (affiliate link). The comic is written by Danny Lore with art by Mirko Colak and a cover by Salvador Larroca.

Captain America is in a brutal battle to win the streets of Manhattan back from Knull’s forces, aided by the Winter Soldier and the Falcon…but there’s a darkness inside Steve that he’s struggling to shake. Can his closest friends help him through, or will he succumb to the shadows? Danny Lore (IRONHEART 2020) and Mirko Colak (DEADPOOL, PUNISHER) join forces for a twisted and terrifying story at the heart of the war against Knull!

I want to preface this review with something that’s very important. I have not read any other King in Black comics. However, this is a one-shot with enough information on the title page for me to know what’s going on. Would this have been better if I was up to date? Yes. Was I still able to enjoy it? Yes.

I want to start by saying that Colak does an absolutely amazing job on the artwork in this comic. It looks amazing! Everyone looks great, the monsters look terrifying, there’s everything to love about the art in this comic. Lore also does a really good job with presenting a story in 33 pages. We follow Captain America, Winter Soldier, and Falcon as they deal with the Knull forces, but Captain America has to also deal with some internal demons. I appreciate the story Lore tells with that inner struggle of Captain America. There are moments where everything feels too much and like we become powerless.

Even if you haven’t read any of the other parts of the King in Black series, you can enjoy King in Black: Captain America #1. I think it does a good job of tackling inner demons in 33 pages with gorgeous artwork. What did you think of the comic?
