Emma Stone is Now Reportedly Looking To Sue Disney Over CRUELLA Disney+ Release

As you know, last week, Scarlett Johansson filed a lawsuit against Disney over Black Widow being released on Disney+. This was apparently a breach of contract. As expected, it’s looking like more talent is going to come after Disney for similar reasons.

Matthew Belloni, the former editor of The Hollywood Reporter, said in a recent newsletter What I’m Hearing… that Emma Stone is now also reportedly considering suing Disney over her film Cruella being released on Disney+.

The report also suggested that Emily Blunt could also get in on the action after the release of Jungle Cruise. He says that Disney is “notoriously difficult to deal with,” and said other creatives have been waiting for someone high-profile to talk about the situation, and a lot of people are standing behind and supporting Johansson.

Johansson’s lawsuit against Disney over Black Widow reads, “Disney intentionally induced Marvel’s breach of the agreement, without justification, in order to prevent Ms. Johansson from realizing the full benefit of her bargain with Marvel.”

Johansson’s attorney, John Berlinski, said in a statement, “It’s no secret that Disney is releasing films like Black Widow directly onto Disney+ to increase subscribers and thereby boost the company’s stock price – and that it’s hiding behind Covid-19 as a pretext to do so. But ignoring the contracts of the artists responsible for the success of its films in furtherance of this short-sighted strategy violates their rights and we look forward to proving as much in court. This will surely not be the last case where Hollywood talent stands up to Disney and makes it clear that, whatever the company may pretend, it has a legal obligation to honor its contracts.”

Disney responded: “There is no merit whatsoever to this filing. The lawsuit is especially sad and distressing in its callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Disney has fully complied with Ms. Johansson’s contract and furthermore, the release of Black Widow on Disney Plus with Premier Access has significantly enhanced her ability to earn additional compensation on top of the $20 million she has received to date.”

There are reports that Kevin Feige is angry at Disney for how they handled the release of Black Widow and Johansson’s agent lashed out at Disney for how they responded to the lawsuit. He said:

I want to address the Walt Disney Company’s statement that was issued in response to the lawsuit filed against them yesterday by our client Scarlett Johansson. They have shamelessly and falsely accused Ms. Johansson of being insensitive to the global COVID pandemic, in an attempt to make her appear to be someone they and I know she isn’t.

Scarlett has been Disney’s partner on nine movies, which have earned Disney and its shareholders billions. The company included her salary in their press statement in an attempt to weaponize her success as an artist and businesswoman, as if that were something she should be ashamed of.  Scarlett is extremely proud of the work that she, and all of the actors, writers, directors, producers, and the Marvel creative team have been a part of for well over a decade.

This suit was filed as a result of Disney’s decision to knowingly violate Scarlett’s contract. They have very deliberately moved the revenue stream and profits to the Disney+ side of the company, leaving artistic and financial partners out of their new equation.  That’s it, pure and simple.

Disney’s direct attack on her character and all else they implied is beneath the company that many of us in the creative community have worked with successfully for decades.

The floods gates have opened, and it’s going to be interesting to see what follows as this story continues to play out.

Carnage is Unleashed in New Trailer For VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE

carnage-is-unleashed-in-new-trailer-for-venom-let-there-be-carnage.jpg

We’ve got a second trailer to share with you for Sony Picture’s upcoming Marvel film Venom: Let There Be Carnage. The trailer puts a focus on serial killer Cletus Kasady and his transformation into Carnage. This classic Marvel villian even puts the fear into Venom!

Before Carnage makes his appearance, Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock is trying to keep Venom from eating people and is trying to set rules for him. If you were hoping to see more action from this movie, this latest trailer is filled with it.

Andy Serkis directed the film, which also stars Michelle Williams as Anne Weying and Naomie Harris (Moonlight), who is reportedly playing the villain Shriek, who is Carnage’s love interest and accomplice. Andy Serkis previously talked about bringing Carnage to life for the film saying:

“This character was so much fun to work on in design and to take [from] the comic world. It was wonderful having the opportunity to take this character that’s never been seen before on screen, as much as you do get to know him in our story and to really play with the physicality, how he moves, how he extrudes his tentacles.”

“Carnage can turn to mist. He can turn to all manner of tendrils. He can take different forms. He can weaponize, he can do all of these different things. With all symbiotes, they reflect the person who is their host. So the darkness of Carnage, the playfulness, the wit, the strangeness. Cletus has a real intelligence and… a real sense of humor, and we wanted to reflect that in the symbiote that is linked to him.”

I’ve been a fan of Venom and Carnage since I started reading comics. I really hope that this sequel ends up being a good movie! I was disappointed with the first film, but that doesn’t mean this sequel won’t be better. It definitely looks like it will deliver the action.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage is set to release on September 24, 2021. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think!

WATERWORLD is Being Developed as a Series By Director Dan Trachtenberg

waterworld-is-being-developed-as-a-series-by-director-dan-trachtenberg.jpg

So, uh… Waterworld! The 1995 Kevin Costner action film that audiences… loved? Is now being developed as a TV series. I’m not sure who is asking for this as the best thing to come out of that movie was the Waterworld: A Live Sea War Spectacular stunt show at Universal Studios. But, producer John Davis has revealed that 10 Cloverfield Lane and Predator director Dan Trachtenberg is developing the show and is attached to direct.

Davis explains to Collider that the project is being developed as a streaming service series and it will be a continuation of the story that the first movie started. That first film was set in a world where the melting polar ice caps leave most of the world underwater. Costner played the Mariner, who adapted to the ocean by developing gills. He reluctantly befriends a woman named Helen and her young companion, Enola, as they escape from a hostile artificial island. Soon the sinister Smokers are pursuing them in the belief that Enola holds the key to finding the mythical Dryland.

According to the report, the series is expected to follow the characters from the original 1995 movie, and it will take place “20 years later. All those people, 20 years later.” They aren’t sure exactly how they are to approach the show, but it’s currently in the early stages of development at Universal Television.

I have absolutely no desire to watch this. I didn’t like the movie when I saw it as a teenager and I still don’t like it and I don’t care to see the story of any of those characters continue. I’ve never met anyone that has liked the original movie. Is there actually a market out there for more Waterworld? It just seems like a waste of time and money to me. They should put all that time, energy, and money into something original.

The video, which you can check out in the player below, features Eddie Brock as he continues struggling to control the titular symbiote’s aggression in order to avoid detection from powerful people. It also highlights the Carnage transformation of Harrelson’s villainous Cletus Kasady, who seemingly feels a strange connection to Eddie. In addition to action-packed sequences teasing the Venom and Carnage showdown, it also provides us a glimpse into Eddie and Venom’s hilarious banters.

The Venom sequel is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters this fall on September 24, which pits it against Universal Pictures’ forthcoming film adaptation of the acclaimed Broadway musical Dear Evan Hansen.

Marvel’s WHAT IF…? – Lots of New Details on The Multiverse Stories That The Series will Tell

marvels-what-if-new-details-on-gamora-and-tony-starks-story.jpg

Lots of new details have surfaced for Marvel’s upcoming animated What If…? series. We’ve got some information regarding the stories that will be told as well as some new casting info.

Marvel’s What If…? is an anthology series where The Watcher looks at instances of where the MCU could have gone in a completely different direction. The series will include most of the MCU cast reprising their roles in the series, which will examine the 23 past films in the MCU, but each of the stories will feature one key difference showing how the story would have played out differently.

So, thanks to The Illuminerdi, here are some things that we can expect to see from these Multiverse stories!

Gamora vs. Tony Stark

In one episode, Zoe Saldana’s Gamora will find herself on a much darker path than the one we saw in the MCU. In this story, “after being trained by her father Thanos, her skills will be put to the test against a new and unusual target in the form of Tony Stark.”

There are no details on how exactly that will play out, but it’s definitely an interesting story as the two characters never interacted with each other in the live-action MCU films.

Black Widow Will Be a Survivor in a Post-Apocalyptic World

Another episode will focus on Natasha Romanoff, “who finds herself in a dire situation in this new universe. The story will show Black Widow as one of the only survivors of a cataclysmic event that came about due to the classic MCU villain Ultron.”

Romanoff will also be sporting a new costume in this episode to adjust to the times she’s in. It will be similar to her past MCU outfits, but it “will come with shorter sleeves and metal plating over her top, likely adjusting to her new darker surroundings.”

This episode may show us what a world looks like if Ultron was victorious in Avengers: Age of Ultron?

Party Thor

We’ll be introduced to Party Thor in the series and the episode will explore a story where Thor does not find his humility. “Instead of being banished to Earth, Thor will reportedly come to Midgard to throw a massive intergalactic party that could potentially bring the end of the world as we know it.”

This episode will be like if Thor’s original hero journey in his first film never happened.

Captain Carter and Steve Rodgers Hydra Stomper

This multiverse story has been teased the most in the marketing for the series. In it, Peggy Carter finds herself taking the Super Soldier Serum in Project Rebirth and officially becomes Captain Carter. “As for Steve, he is sidelined for Project Rebirth due to an undisclosed injury, but he has a new way to fight Hydra this time around. To do this, Howard Stark creates the very first Iron Man armor, which is called the Hydra Stomper.”

T’Challa’s Star-Lord Will Also Lead the Ravagers

The series will see T’Challa become Star-Lord instead of Peter Quill. He will be the one taken by the Ravagers, and “T’Challa will not only take on the moniker of Star-Lord he will also be leading the Ravagers, who in this version are reformed criminals, on galactic adventures.”

Doctor Strange Takes a Darker Path

In this story, Doctor Strange will not be trained by the Ancient One, and he won’t rise to become the Sorcerer Supreme fighting against powerful evil villains. In the film, Strange is selfish and arrogant and he has a big ego. His ego was too big for his relationship with Christine Palmer to work. In What If…? Strange will be motivated by love and grief after he loses Christine Palmer and this “leads him down a much more dangerous path.”

We could very well see Doctor Strange attempt to use the Eye of Agamotto to bring back his lost love and in the process it could corrupt him in some way.

As for some of the new casting, we’ve learned that Clark Gregg‘s Phil Coulson will return. Benedict Cumberbatch will also reprise his role as Doctor Strange as will Rachel McAdams, who plays Dr. Christine Palmer. Don Cheadle will also reprise his role as War Machine.

Jeffrey Wright serves as the narrator for What If…?, voicing the all-seeing Watcher and he’s joined by Michael B. Jordan as Killmonger, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Josh Brolin as Thanos, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Hayley Atwell as Agent Peggy Carter, Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, Neal McDonough as Dum Dum Dugan, Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark, Sean Gunn as Kraglin, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Taika Waititi as Korg, Toby Jones as Arnim Zola, Djimon Hounsou as Korath, Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster, and Michael Rooker as Yondu.

Marvel’s What If…? will make its debut on Disney+ on August 11th, 2021. Any thought on these new details that have been shared?
