ARROW August 2021 Schedule: New Movie Additions

Arrow Video has announced the August 2021 lineup of their new subscription-based ARROW platform, available to subscribers in the US, Canada, the UK, and Ireland.

The August lineup leads with the ARROW release of Noel David Taylor’s bizarre filmmaking comedy Man Under Table. The feature debut from writer/director Noel David Taylor, who also stars as Guy, a beleaguered, hilariously obnoxious scriptwriter navigating his way through the chaotic indie film scene in a dystopian Los Angeles, Man Under Table world premiered at the Slamdance Film Festival and screened at the Chattanooga Film Festival. The film will debut on ARROW August 2nd.

Man Under Table is an inventive and quirky comedy that skewers the hustle and grind of independent filmmaking, as seen in ARROW’s doc Clapboard Jungle.

Ahead of the release of his debut feature, Taylor shared: “For as long as I have been making videos, I have been making odd, absurdist, borderline camp videos. It is not an easy thing to find an audience for such films. Which is why when something fits as effortlessly into a catalog as Man Under Table does into Arrow’s, it’s not only a relief — but a homecoming of sorts. The first time one explores the arsenal of films Arrow has arranged, you find yourself hard-pressed to not be overwhelmed with not only a magnificently varied beaucoup of horror, camp, and just plain evocative films, but also an abundance of style, humour, and fun. I could not have found a better home for my film if I conjured it from the ether. To whom it may concern: go watch these films!”

ARROW Stories will be home to a number of exclusive extras for Man Under Table, including a making of featurette, deleted scenes, a commentary from Taylor, a Man Under Table music video, and a number of Taylor’s early short films, including The Hermit and Dos Hombres.

Iconic Scene From E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL Capture in New Statue From Iron Studios

iconic-scene-from-et-the-extra-terrestrial-capture-in-new-statue-from-iron-studios.jpg

I’m sure you’re all familiar with the iconic scene from Steven Spielberg’s E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial in which Elliot and E.T. are flying through the night sky with the giant moon as a backdrop. Well, that amazing scene has been transformed into a statue by the fine folks at Iron Studios.

The official description of the statue reads:

A boy carries in his bicycle basket, wrapped in a white sheet, an unusual friend, a small alien lost on Earth that is being pursued by government forces. In their flight to find their fellow men and return to his world, the two friends run towards a California forest, where the spacecraft that will rescue him must land. To escape a police blockade, the little alien uses its telekinetic abilities to levitate the bike, lifting them into the air and flying over the trees towards their destination. This anthological scene, which has the moon as a backdrop, was also used in the promotion of the film, becoming one of the best known and most striking images in cinema, even becoming the logo of Amblin Entertainment, Steven Spielberg’s film producer, and now also proudly replicated with the statue ” ET & Elliot – Art Scale 1/10 Deluxe – ET – Iron Studios”

Created by Steven Spielberg and written by Melissa Mathison, 1982’s ET the Extra-Terrestrial is among the highest-grossing films of all time, winning four Oscars, and added to the Library of Congress’s National Film Registry, being designated as culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.

In the film, a group of botanical aliens secretly visit Earth at night to collect plant specimens. With the arrival of US government vehicles, the group leaves Earth in its spaceship, leaving one of its small members behind, who had separated from the group. The creature ends up meeting a local boy named Elliott, who then goes on to hide and protect the little lost being on Earth, creating a tender bond of friendship with a deep empathic connection between them.

This statue marks the debut of another license acquired by Iron Studios, scheduled for 2022, and this year will also be the 40th anniversary celebration of ET’s premiere in theaters. The statue is already available for Pre-Order. Check out the variant version in ” E.T. & Elliot – Art Scale 1/10 – E.T. – Iron Studios”.

The E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial statue from Iron Studios will cost $229.99 for the standard edition, which doesn’t include the moon backdrop. If you want to add the moon backdrop, you’ll have to pay $349.99. You can purchase it here if you’re interested.

wayward children books.jpg

Paramount Pictures has acquired the rights to the highly sought-after book series Wayward Children. With six books already published and a seventh installment coming in early 2022, the studio plans to build a franchise around this universe of characters and stories. Insiders say the studio views the series as a possible franchise given the huge fanbase that is behind it, and add it has already drawn interest from top talent to be a part of it. The series adaptations will be produced by Pouya Shahbazian.

“The series takes place in Eleanor West’s School for Wayward Children, a boarding school for people who have returned home from magical fantasy worlds and have trouble readjusting to their old lives. For as long as time, children have always found doorways into different worlds, whether down rabbit holes and wishing wells or through wardrobes and magic mirrors, but this series explores what happens to the ones who come back — and want nothing more than to return to those other worlds.”

This is a big get for the studio, and it will be fun to see what they do with the popular series. Are you a fan of Wayward Children?
