DESCENT INTO AVERNUS Will Feature a New Familiar Called an Abyssal Chicken

As Dungeons & Dragons players and DMs dive into the Nine Hells in Baldur’s Gate: Descent into Avernus, they’re sure to be treated to a wide variety of ferocious and demonic monsters that they haven’t met before. To one-up all of those though, Chris Perkins announced that a new familiar is on its way as well called the abyssal chicken. If you’re wondering what it will look like, just think of a chicken from hell and that seems to be the consensus. Here’s what Perkins told CB at D&D Live 2019: The Descent:

One of my favorite monsters is actually a stupid thing called the Abyssal chicken. It’s exactly what you think it is. It is a chicken out of the abyss. But what sold me on it were two things. One, you can make it a familiar. Two, the artwork kicks ass. The art for it basically sold the creature. If the piece of art didn’t look as good as it does, it probably wouldn’t be in the book.

I’m now very intrigued to see what the artwork for this creature is. I’m imagining something like Heihei from Moana but with lava rock and flames consuming the body. What are you going to name your abyssal chicken?
