The Filmmakers of MICKEY’S MOUSE TRAP Say “Who Doesn’t Want to See Mickey Mouse Killing People?”

Last week the first trailer dropped for a Mickey Mouse slasher film titled Mickey’s Mouse Trap, and it’s a horror film based on the version of Mickey Mouse from Walt Disney’s Steamboat Willie.

The movie doesn’t look good at all, but it was obviously made as a quick cash grab. In the film, “It’s Alex’s 21st birthday, but she’s stuck at the amusement arcade on a late shift so her friends decide to surprise her, but a masked killer dressed as Mickey Mouse decides to play a game of his own with them which she must survive.”

The creators of the film, director Jamie Bailey and producer Simon Phillips, recently talked about the movie, and they were surprised that they were the only people taking advantage of Steamboat Willy entering the public domain. Phillips told the DisInsider:

“We were very surprised that we were the only ones that sort of worked towards that. We thought we’d be lost in the shuffle, to be completely honest… we won the lottery.”

Baily went on to talk about the potential they saw in the R-rated Mickey Mouse slasher and they claim that they’re fans of Disney, but believe a lot of people would love to watch Mickey Mouse brutally killing people.

“We’re actually big fans of Disney fans in general—not just Disney reimagined into horror movies or something like that… so this is just our opportunity to be playful and creative with the character. And that’s exactly what we did. We had a ridiculous idea and we made it. Who doesn’t want to see Mickey Mouse killing people?”

I’d argue that they aren’t doing anything creative with this movie. This is a slasher film, the plot is something we’ve seen time and time again. The only difference is the killer wears a Mickey Mouse mask.

You know what would be creative and interesting? If someone actually made a super fun and cool Mickey Mouse movie that would put what Disney is currently doing to shame.
