HIDIVE is the newest streaming service from AMC dedicated to anime and live action entertainment. The classic Lupin the 3rd anime is currently on the service and they are happy to announce a new spinoff series, Lupin Zero, will be premiering on December 16. The six episode series will be set in the 1960s during Japan’s Showa Era and centers on a teenaged Lupin III and delves into his untold origins as the world’s greatest thief. Here’s the official synopsis:

Lupin III, a bored junior high schooler in Tokyo, takes an interest in a young Daisuke Jigen, a mysterious and impressive marksman. Lupin III strikes up a conversation with Jigen at a nightclub, however during their talk, Jigen concludes that Lupin III is simply a privileged and naïve boy from a well-to-do family and doesn’t want anything to do with him. However, while helping the nightclub singer Yoko, who is being pursued by the yakuza, Jigen learns that Lupin III is a descendant of the legendary thief…

The series will reunite the Lupin the 3rd Part 5 alumni of director Daisuke Sakou, series supervisor Ichirou Okouchi, character designer Asami Taguchi, and animation studio Telecom Animation Film. HIDIVE will be hosting the world premiere screening of Lupin Zero at Anime NYC on November 18 at 6:30. Are you excited for this prequel series?
