The Cast of STRANGER THINGS 4 Teases the “Psychologically Evil” New Villain Vecna

There’s been a lot of talk about the new villain in Stranger Things 4 known as Vecna. We got a little tease of this monster in the trailer, and it looks pretty freakin’ sinister. This is a human-like creature from the Upside-Down, and it’s going to be very interesting to see the heroes of the story find themselves face to face with it.

Variety recently spoke with several members of the cast about the new villain and here’s what David Harbour had to say, “Vecna is a psychological horror that I don’t think we’ve really seen. The Upside Down has been this wild west world where there are creatures running around, and there’s violence, but we’ve never seen something as calculatedly psychologically evil as this. That’s exciting because he is a true big bad that we’ve needed in the series.”

While Harbour has some insight on the Vecna, don’t expect to see Jim Hopper take him on… yet. He’s got a whole other issue to deal with! The actor went on to say, “I don’t directly deal with [Vecna], my storyline’s a little different, but there’s a Demogorgon in a Russian prison that I got to deal with. It’s pretty terrifying.”

Gaten Matarazzo, who plays fan-favorite character Dustin, also talked a bit about Vecna and the terror he brings to the story, saying, “The craziest thing is just how new and fresh the villain feels compared to what we’ve had before. It’s something that brings a whole new vibe to how we deal with our villains in Stranger Things and how we will continue to do so going forward.”

In Stranger Things 4, “It’s been six months since the Battle of Starcourt, which brought terror and destruction to Hawkins. Struggling with the aftermath, our group of friends are separated for the first time — and navigating the complexities of high school hasn’t made things any easier. In this most vulnerable time, a new and horrifying supernatural threat surfaces, presenting a gruesome mystery that, if solved, might finally put an end to the horrors of the Upside Down.”

Stranger Things 4 is set to premiere on May 27th, 2022, with the second batch of episodes arriving on July 1st.
