Tobey Maguire Plays Charlie Chaplin in Damien Chazelle’s New Film BABYLON

During last week’s CinemaCon event, Paramount Pictures shared some first footage from La La Land director Damien Chazelle‘s upcoming film, Babylon.

The film is set in the late 1920s during the movie industry’s transition from silent films to talkies. It explores “the rise and fall of multiple characters and has been described as ‘The Great Gatsby on steroids.’”

The movie also has an incredibly impressive cast that includes Margot Robbie, Brad Pitt, Diego Calva, Jovan Adepo, Li Jun Li, Katherine Waterston, Jean Smart, Max Minghella, Samara Weaving, Olivia Wilde, Spike Jonze, Chloe Fineman, Jeff Garlin, Troy Metcalf, and Tobey Maguire.

There hasn’t been a lot of information revealed for this movie, but judging from the footage that we saw, it looks like it’s going to be another incredible film from Chazelle. The guy is just such a talented filmmaker and storyteller and I can’t wait to see more from the film.

The footage screened features a first look at several of the actors, and it’s revealed that Tobey Maguire is taking on the role of legendary entertainer Charlie Chaplin. Maguire is also an executive producer on the film. Maguire seems like a great choice to play Chaplin!

Margot Robbie plays Clara Bow, Brad Pitt plays John Gilbert, Max Minghella plays film producer Irving Thalberg, and Li Jun Li plays actor Anna May Wong.

Babylon hits the big screen this December 25th.
