This week at CinemaCon, lots of news and footage has been released, including a look at two long-awaited sequels – Shazam! Fury of the Gods and Avatar: The Way of Water. What these sequels have in common is that they had been scheduled to be released on the same day this December, but it was announced that Shazam! is pushing its release date back by five days, so that it no longer shares that opening day spot.
This is probably a smart move, as sharing that release date probably would have messed with the superhero sequel’s opening figures. I know it wouldn’t have made a difference to my family. We will be seeing Shazam! on opening day, no matter what it’s up against, but instead we will see it five days later. If it had been pushed back much more, I would have been pretty disappointed, but I can handle five days.
Avatar: The Way of Water is still set to hit theaters on December 16th, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods will now land in theaters on December 21st. Which movie are you most looking forward to?
