Comedian Jerry Seinfeld is set to direct and star in a comedy movie that will tell the story of the creation of the classic breakfast pastry, Pop Tarts. The film is titled Unfrosted, it’s set up at Netflix, and Seinfeld co-wrote the script with Spike Feresten and Barry Marder.
The film is inspired by a joke that Seinfeld has told in his Netflix comedy special about the world-shaking invention of the Pop Tart, which rocked his world.
I included a video below in which Seinfeld deconstructs the Pop Tart joke, where he explains, “How did they know that there would be a need for a frosted fruit-filled heated rectangle in the same shape as the box it comes in, and with the same nutrition as the box it comes in?”
Seinfeld talked about the film and how he was inspired to create it during the pandemic. He explained, “Stuck at home watching endless sad faces on TV I thought this would be a good time to make something based on pure silliness. So we took my Pop Tart stand up bit from my last Netflix special and exploded it into a giant, crazy comedy movie.”
I’ve been a fan of Seinfeld and his comedy ever since I was kid. I grew up with this comedian in my life and it’s awesome to learn that he’s making a silly movie about Pop Tarts! I’m in and I’m excited!
