Russo Brothers Talk About the Choice in the Final Scene of AVENGERS: ENDGAME

Avengers: Endgame’s final scene featured a moment that I’ve been waiting for in the MCU. If you have not seen the movie yet, be ye warned!

spoiler_alert.png

The final scene in Endgame features Captain America going back to the past to put the Infinity Stones back in their proper places. However, Steve Rogers never comes back. Instead, Bucky Barnes spots an old man on a bench nearby and tells Sam Wilson (aka Falcon) to go talk to him, knowing full well who it is. That’s when we find out that Steve got his happy ever after, and then much to my joy, gave Sam Captain America’s shield. I have been wanting this moment since Captain America: The Winter Soldier. I love Sam. Well, some people were a little surprised that it wasn’t Bucky, Steve’s best friend. Well, the Russo’s recently told USA Today their reasoning for the choice. Joe Russo told them:

So far as matching the level of integrity of Captain America, Sam is pound for pound as morally forthright as anyone in the Marvel universe. And Bucky’s a damaged character.

After which, Anthony Russo added:

Sam spends his time trying to repair other people who are broken by war, and it just feels like he has the same values as Captain America.

I love the choice, and it makes me excited for that Disney+ show Falcon and the Winter Soldier. What did you think of that choice?

Every Nicholas Stoller movie ranked

ComingSoon.net is counting down the scripts of Nicholas Stoller, who has had many seminal comedies throughout the 21st century. Check out our choices in the gallery below!

A British-American writer, director, and producer, Nicholas Stoller has made a name for himself by taking the sense of humor and the type of filmmaking established by Judd Apatow and adding his own unique twist to it. Instead of keeping things loose and improvisational (and, as a result, frequently overlong) like Apatow, Stoller puts out tightly-polished scripts that put an equal amount of energy into plotting and laughs. This is especially apparent in Stoller’s frequent collaborations with Apatow alum Jason Segel.

In the years since his trifecta of Segel collabs, Stoller has moved onto bigger, more expensive productions with just as much acclaim. From kids movies to adult comedies, Stoller never fails to put out really solid feature films. With plenty of great success across his career as a scriptwriter, here are the ones he’s written that we’d consider to be the best of the best.

Katherine Langford’s Cut AVENGERS: ENDGAME Role Has Been Revealed

After Katherine Langford (13 Reason Why) was cast in Avengers: Endgame, a lot of fans were wondering who exactly she would be playing. The most popular fan theories was that she would be playing Kate Bishop or Cassie Lang. It had to have been an important character, but then to everyone’s surprise, Langford never showed up in the movie!

We now have answers to who she was going to play in the film, thanks to directors Joe and Anthony Russo. They reveal that she was cast as an older teenage version of Tony Stark’s daughter, Morgan. While talking to MTV’s Happy Sad Confused podcast Joe Russo explained:

“There was an idea that we had that Tony was going to go into the metaphysical way station that Thanos goes in when he snapped his fingers. And that there was going to be a future version of his daughter in that way station.”

That “way station” Joe is talking about is that scene where Thanos comes face to face with a young Gamora, who he sacrificed to obtain the Soul Stone. It has previously been described as “not a physical place, it’s not a memory, even… It just seems like an internal moment of reflection.”

Anthony went on to explain why they opted not to include the scene in the movie saying that it would have confused audiences:

“What we realized about it was we didn’t feel an emotional association with the adult version of his daughter. So it wasn’t ringing to us and resonating with us on an emotional level.”

Joe added:

“The intention was that his future daughter, because these films are dealing with magic, his future daughter forgave him and sort of gave him peace to go. And the idea felt resonant. But it was just too many ideas in an overly complicated movie.”

I can see why they didn’t end up including the scene, but at the same time, I think it would have been nice. I don’t think it would have confused audiences at all. In the end, though, I don’t think fans will complain about the scene not being included. Who know, maybe it’ll show up on the special features of the Blu-ray.

What do you think about Langford playing Stark’s daughter? Do you think that she will show up to play her in a future Marvel film?

The Writers of AVENGERS: ENDGAME Disagree with The Directors About Captain America’s Timeline

An interesting disagreement regarding a certain aspect of Avengers: Endgame has popped up between writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely and directors Anthony and Joe Russo.

This disagreement involves an element of Captain America’s story arc and timeline in the film, and if you haven’t seen the movie yet, you won’t want to read ahead.

At the end of Avengers: Endgame, Steve Rogers a.k.a. Captain America travels through time and space thanks to the Quantum Realm to return the Infinity Stones and instead of coming back, he goes back to make a life with Peggy Carter and live it to its fullest.

Here’s what the directors previously said about this aspect of the story:

“If Cap were to go back into the past and live there, he would create a branched reality. The question then becomes, how is he back in this reality to give the shield away?

“Interesting question, right? Maybe there’s a story there. There’s a lot of layers built into this movie and we spent three years thinking through it, so it’s fun to talk about it and hopefully fill in holes for people so they understand what we’re thinking.”

They also said:

“For example, the old Cap at the end movie, he lived his married life in a different universe from the main one. He had to make another jump back to the main universe at the end to give the shield to Sam.”

So they are saying that Cap was in an alternate universe this whole time. But the writers do not agree with that. They believe that Steve Rogers was in the actual timeline in the real MCU and not an alternate one in another reality. This is what Markus had to say in an interview with Fandango:

“That is our theory. We are not experts on time travel, but the Ancient One specifically states that when you take an Infinity Stone out of a timeline it creates a new timeline. So Steve going back and just being there would not create a new timeline. So I reject the ‘Steve is in an alternate reality’ theory.

I do believe that there is simply a period in world history from about ’48 to now where there are two Steve Rogers. And anyway, for a large chunk of that one of them is frozen in ice. So it’s not like they’d be running into each other.”

So that’s interesting! I’m curious to know why the writers and the directors aren’t on the same page with each other on this. You’d think they would be after all the time that they spent on developing these films together. Obviously, something wrong or different happened if there is now a multiverse!

The big question that fans want to know is if the stories of this time where Steve was with Peggy in the past will be told in the form of a film or series in the future.

Who do you side with on the matter? The writers or the directors?
