George R.R. Martin Talks About Killing Off Characters and How The Avengers Inspired Him

We’ve only got three episodes of Game of Thrones left before the show comes to an end. Last week fans were treated to an epic battle that was met with mixed reactions from fans. While I personally enjoyed it, my biggest complaint was that it was way too dark! It would have been nice to actually see the battle! Regardless of that, I liked how the story played out.

Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin sat down with Fast Company for an interview and opened up about how he feels about killing off characters, whether or not they were good or bad. He also talked about The Avengers and how he was inspired by the character Wonder Man, how he was a bad guy who only pretends to be a good guy, but in the end, actually turns out being a good guy.

“Wonder Man was a guy who joins the Avengers a new superhero who appears and he joins the Avengers but he’s really a supervillain who’s been created to join them pretending to be a hero, join them on false premises and then destroy them when their guard is down from within but when it gets to the moment that he’s supposed to destroy them he has a crisis of conscience and he can’t destroy them. So he sacrificed his own life and dies instead. I love this comic, it was terrific.”

Martin also talked about collaborating with actors, directors, and showrunners while his story was being brought to life for HBO:

“When you get involved in television or film you’re working with a large team and that’s great you have other creative people you can have and they all have ideas too and some of them have their own areas of expertise … the actor is bringing their own interpretation to it. All of that is it can be very exhilarating but it can also be traumatic because sometimes their creative vision and your creative vision don’t match and you get the the the famous creative differences thing.”

Mark Wahlberg Partners With Jason Blum for The Stolen Kids of Sarah Lawrence

Mark Wahlberg Partnering With Jason Blum for The Stolen Kids of Sarah Lawrence

Mark Wahlberg partners with Jason Blum for The Stolen Kids of Sarah Lawrence

The Hollywood Reporter has brought word that Mark Wahlberg (Instant Family) is teaming up with indie genre darling Jason Blum (Us) to adapt the highly talked-about New York magazine The Stolen Kids of Sarah Lawrence

RELATED: Jason Blum Reveals How the New Invisible Man Came Together

The article, written by Ezra Marcus and James D. Walsh, told the story of young men and women at the liberal arts college Sarah Lawrence as they were charmed by Larry Ray, the manipulative father of one of their classmates, who moved into the dorm with his daughter following his release from prison. He treated the group to home-cooked steak dinners and beguiled them with stories of his time as a Marine and as a CIA operative.

However, his time in the dorm expands from a temporary stop until finding a place to controlling the kid’s lives and bringing them to a private apartment in New York for the summer. During their time together he would turn many of the kids against their parents and even intruded upon the students’ sex lives, both physically and mentally, and proved to be very abusive towards the group. However, the majority still praised him in court cases as helping turn their lives around. A few students were reported to have escaped his mental clutches and are working on repairing the damage done by Ray.

Blum’s blockbuster studio Blumhouse Productions quickly but quietly acquired the rights to the article following its April 28 publication and Wahlberg will team with Steven Levinson to produce the project through their banner Closest to the Hole, however it has not been confirmed whether Blumhouse will develop the project as a television series or as a film as sources are reporting the studio sees potential as both.

Wahlberg’s Closest to the Hole was behind the surprise family hit Instant Family and the poorly-received action-thriller Mile 22, both of which the 47-year-old actor starred in, and is currently attached to produce the upcoming mystery film Wonderland and drama Good Joe Bell. Blumhouse is known for bringing audiences the widely successful InsidiousPurge and Paranormal Activity franchises, as well as the acclaimed horror-thrillers Get Out and Us, the former of which was nominated for four Oscars and won one and the latter of which grossed over $250 million at the global box office.
