Alan Moore Isn’t Thrilled About HBO’s New WATCHMEN Series and Damon Lindelof Responds with a Respectful “F**k You”

Comic book writer Alan Moore has never been happy with any of his work being adapted by Hollywood. He doesn’t like it that people mess around with his work! He wasn’t a fan of the Watchmen prequel comic series that DC published, he certainly wasn’t happy with Zack Snyder’s movie, and of course, he’s not happy about the upcoming HBO sequel series.

During the Television Critics Association, HBO’s head of programming, Casey Bloys, was asked if Moore was still angry about the series and he responded, “I think that remains the case. That he’s not thrilled.”

When the creator of the series and showrunner Damon Lindelof talked about Alan Moore, saying he has “made it very clear that he doesn’t want to have any association or affiliation with Watchmen.” But, Lindelof still respects the writer and even called him “a genius”.

Then Lindelof responded to Moore’s criticism in the way Moore himself would respond if someone told him he shouldn’t do something:

“he would say, ‘Fuck you. I’m doing it anyway’… so I’m channeling the spirit of Alan Moore to tell Alan Moore, ‘Fuck you. I’m doing it anyway.’”

Look, as long as the series ends up being good, I don’t care. I’m just looking forward to seeing this world explored more! Watchmen co-creator Dave Gibbons is much more open to the series. When previously talking about it, he said:

“I’ve had conversations with Damon, and I’ve read the screenplay for the pilot. I don’t think it’s my place to say too much about it, other than I found Damon’s approach to be really refreshing and exciting and unexpected. I don’t think it’s gonna be what people think it’s going to be. It certainly wasn’t what I imagined it to be. I think it’s extremely fresh. I’m really looking forward to seeing it on the screen.”

The story is set in an alternate history where masked vigilantes are treated as outlaws. This drama series embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel of the same name while attempting to break new ground of its own.

The cast includes Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, Jean Smart, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Hong Chau, Andrew Howard, Tom Mison, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, Dylan Schombing, and James Wolk.

Watchmen is set to premiere on HBO this Fall.

HBO’s Hilarious Series LOS ESPOOKYS Has Been Renewed For a Second Season

los espookys 2.jpg

Have you seen season one of the super hilarious HBO series Los Espookys? If you haven’t, you should. It’s pure comedy gold. The series is part Spanish, part English, with subtitles and is based on a group of friends in Mexico who love the horror genre. They are hired to decorate for the leader of the group’s cousin’s quinceanera, where they decide to create the group Los Espookys.

The first season saw them go on crazy adventures taking jobs to create publicity stunts, and “standard inheritance scares”. The writing is so fresh and different. The cast is quirky and offbeat.

So I am delighted that we are officially getting a second season! I can’t wait to see where the story and characters take us. I only hope we get a longer season that the six-episode first season! Have you seen the show? Are you excited for a second season?

Robert Redford Will Be President in HBO’s WATCHMEN and it Will Touch on Racism, Police Brutality, and More

Actor Robert Redford is set to star as… well, Robert Redford in the new HBO series Watchmen, that is being adapted by Damon Lindelof (Lost, The Leftovers), from the comic books created by Alan Moore. Redford will play himself in what Lindelof describes as an “alt-history”, wherein Richard Nixon stayed in the presidency in the 1980’s, but died while in office, which was then handed down to Vice-President Gerald Ford, who lost re-election in 1992 to Redford. In this alternate universe timeline, Redford has remained in the presidency since then, and is still president in present day.

At this week’s Television Critics Association Panel (via FoxNews), Lindelof spoke a bit about the themes of the series, and the fact that this America has faced more conflict on American soil than that of cold-war era Russia, saying:

“What in 2019 is the equivalent of the nuclear standoff between the Americans and the Russians? It is race and the police. There is no defeating white supremacy — it’s not going away. There are no easy answers and grandiose solution.”

He went on to say:

“It is not supposed to be a world that you recognize to Trojan horse themes that are in a real world in a fictional one. What is actual history and what is alt-history and things start to get blended in the middle.”

I think it is probably easier to have a series where you can run parallel to many themes we are facing today, but then also take it in different directions. It will seem familiar, but more free. I am really interested in this series, and I think Redford will make an excellent addition to the cast. Are you excited for this series? Watchmen will air on HBO this October.
