When it was released in 1987, The Monster Squad was deemed a film no one cared much about but over the last three decades, word of mouth has turned this sleeper hit into a cultural phenomenon. Wolfman’s Got Nards explores the relationship a dedicated audience (including celebrities and filmmakers) has with The Monster Squad. This documentary takes an in-depth look into the film’s conception, response, cult status and revival. Through interviews with the cast, crew, screenwriters, directors, academics and original reviewers as well as through never-before-seen footage, it turns the lens on an audience of self-proclaimed misfits who have kept The Monster Squad alive for more than 30 years.

“This documentary was a special project to work on and I can’t wait to finally share it through this release,” said Andre Gower. “Working with Gravitas Ventures creates a unique opportunity for the film to reach not only our awesome ‘Monster Squad’ fans, but also find new audiences that will enjoy this passionate in-depth look at how people connect with film and how it can shape their lives.”

“Andre’s film is a hilarious and heartfelt tribute that will scratch the nostalgia itch for longtime fans, and expose a new generation to this cult classic,” said Tony Piantedosi, Vice President of Acquisitions at Gravitas Ventures.

Disney+ has launched GroupWatch, which is a co-viewing experience for watching movies and shows from the Disney+ Library with your friends and family while you are apart. This is a feature that we know they’ve been working on for a while, and it’s one that a lot of subscribers have been wanting to see added to the service. Well, it’s here in the U.S. and available to use today!

GroupWatch allows for up to seven people to watch together in a synced playback experience available across web, mobile, connected TV devices, and Smart TVs, and viewers can share their reactions in real-time.

Jerrell B Jimerson, SVP Product Management for Disney+, said in a statement:

“Storytelling comes alive when you’re able to share and enjoy it with others, and in this moment when many are still apart from their friends and family, GroupWatch offers a way to safely connect virtually by co-viewing your favorite Disney+ stories with your favorite people from the comfort of your living room.”

Here’s a breakdown of how it works:

Subscribers can launch the experience through the GroupWatch icon found on the Details page of series and movies from the extensive library on Disney+.

A musical adventure and a visual spectacle for the ages, Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey is a wholly fresh and spirited family holiday event. Set in the gloriously vibrant town of Cobbleton, the film follows legendary toymaker Jeronicus Jangle (Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker) whose fanciful inventions burst with whimsy and wonder. But when his trusted apprentice (Emmy winner Keegan-Michael Key) steals his most prized creation, it’s up to his equally bright and inventive granddaughter (newcomer Madalen Mills) — and a long-forgotten invention — to heal old wounds and reawaken the magic within.

From the imagination of writer-director David E. Talbert and featuring original songs by John Legend, Philip Lawrence, Davy Nathan, and “This Day” performed by Usher and Kiana Ledé, Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey reminds us of the strength of family and the power of possibility.

Noah Hawley Says His STAR TREK Film is a Story about Exploration and Creative Problem Solving

Noah Hawley (Fargo, Legion) is set to direct a new Star Trek film for Paramount Pictures, but as of right now, the project has been put on hold. It was explained that the story for his film would have centered around “a virus that wipes out vast parts of the known universe.” It’s been said that the reason the film was put on hold was that the storyline hit too close to home with the current state of the world.

It was already revealed that the movie would start from scratch with a whole new crew and cast that would not involve Captain Kirk or Captain Picard. Hawley also explained that the movie was pretty far along in development with the script completed, and he was hiring designers to help him conceptualize the film’s look.

During a recent interview with Observer, Hawley opened up a bit more about the project and shared some additional details on what his vision for this Star Trek is, and how he’s looking to bring back the smart aspect of the franchise. He explains that his story is less about action and more about exploration and creative problem solving:

“What I love about Star Trek is that it’s not a war story. It’s not a story in which might makes right. It’s a story about exploration. It’s a story about creative problem solving. My favorite moment in all of Star Trek is in Wrath of Khan when Kirk puts on his reading glasses to lower Khan’s shields. It’s a brief moment that is so exhilarating because he’s using the best tool he has, which is his mind. As much as I like the Chris Pine movies they were mostly about running from one end of the ship to the other to put out a fire, to stop a thing, and then before he could catch his breath he had to do something else. They’re much more action movies and what I wanted to get back to was this idea of humanity justifying existence in the universe by showing its best qualities.”

I always did love those older Star Trek films. While I have enjoyed Abrams’ films, they aren’t as good as those original real Star Trek films. Hawley previously said that the film would connect to franchise history, drawing a comparison to how his Fargo series is tied to the 1996 film. He explained:

“We’re not doing Kirk and we’re not doing Picard. It’s a start from scratch that then allows us to do what we did with Fargo, where for the first three hours you go, ‘Oh, it really has nothing to do with the movie,’ and then you find the money. So you reward the audience with a thing that they love.”

Hopefully, Hawley gets to make his Star Trek movie. I’d really like to see his vision come to life. Wat do you think about the direction he’s looking to take the film so far?

Fargo Creator Noah Hawley Talks Alien Miniseries He Pitched to FX

During an interview with Observer, Emmy winner and Fargo series creator Noah Hawley discussed the Alien miniseries he had pitched to FX in 2019, with a specific focus on the “human drama.”

“Alien is on some level the complete opposite of Star Trek,” Hawley told the outlet. “It’s sort of about humanity at its worst. There’s this moment in the second film when Sigourney says, ‘I don’t know which species is worse. At least they don’t screw each other over for a percentage.’ If you look at what Aliens tends to be, it’s usually a trapped story – trapped in a ship, trapped in a prison, etc. And because the Alien has this life cycle to it, where it goes from egg, to chestburster, to xenomorph, there becomes a certain routine to it.”

“I thought it would be interesting if you could expand,” he continued. “If you’re going to make something for television, you’ve got 10 hours let’s say. Even if you have a lot of action, like two hours, then you’re still going to have eight hours left. So what is the show about? That’s what I tried to talk to them about. As I did with Legion, the exercise is: Let’s take the superhero stuff out of the show and see if it’s still a great show. What’s the show about? Let’s take the Alien out of the show. What’s the show about? What are the themes, who are the characters and what is the human drama? Then we drop the aliens back in and we go, ‘This is great. Not only is there great human drama, but there’s aliens!’”
