Full Trailer for HBO Series THE UNDOING Starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant

HBO has released the first full trailer for the upcoming series, The Undoing. The intense-looking dramatic series stars Nicole Kidman, Hugh Grant, Noah Jupe, Donald Sutherland, Edan Alexander, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Matilda De Angelis, Michael Devine, Noma Dumezweni, Lily Rabe, Edgar Ramirez, and Marcella Lentz-Pope.

The series was created by David E. Kelley, creator of tons of hit series (Ally McBeal, The Practice, and Big Little Lies), and the six episodes will be directed by Susanne Bier, who is also an executive producer and the driving force behind the series. Here’s the synopsis:

The limited series The Undoing, premiering October 25th, stars Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant as Grace and Jonathan Fraser, who are living the only lives they ever wanted for themselves. Overnight a chasm opens in their lives: a violent death and a chain of terrible revelations. Left behind in the wake of a spreading and very public disaster and horrified by the ways in which she has failed to heed her own advice, Grace must dismantle one life and create another for her child (Noah Jupe) and her family.

This feels like the first trailer that has given us a real feel for what the series is about. I’m really looking forward to the show just based on the talent behind it. Check out the trailer below, and watch The Undoing on HBO on September 25th.

New, Elegant Lightsaber Design Revealed From STAR WARS: THE HIGH REPUBLIC

A new lightsaber design has been revealed from Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The High Republic story series. The stories told in this series are 200 years prior to Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, during the very peak of the Jedi Order.

When talking about the elegant design of the lightsaber, Michael Siglain, Lucasfilm Publishing’s creative director, explained that it was inspired by one of the most legendary swords in storytelling, Excalibur:

“We wanted to make the Jedi distinctive and instantly recognizable as Jedi Knights of the High Republic, and that applies not only to their clothing but to their lightsabers, as well. Internally, we often refer to the Jedi of this era as ‘the Jedi Knights of the Round Table.’ Taking that idea one step further, their sabers can be viewed as their own versions of Excalibur.”

This is the lightsaber that is wielded by the character Stellan Gios, who is a Jedi Master during the High Republic era. The character is described as follows:

Stellan is an optimistic and well-respected Jedi Master. Stellan came up through the Order with Avar Kriss, and although they are often on different assignments for the Jedi or the Republic, when the two work together they are a powerhouse team of two noble heroes in action. Strong in the Force and a natural teacher, Stellan is currently stationed at one of the Jedi Temple outposts on the distant planet of Caragon-Viner.

When talking about the design of the lightsaber hilt, Disney Publishing illustration manager Jeff R. Thomas said:

“When designing Stellan’s lightsaber, I looked at the iconic lightsabers that have already been established. He needed an iconic weapon that could stand beside the other famous lightsabers, but at the same time be unique to him and evoke the time period of the High Republic.”

Thomas went on to explain where Excalibur came into play in the design, saying:

“With the High Republic, we wanted to implement a more traditional crossguard, but I still wanted to include the saber-blade into the crossguard design, so that Stellan would be able to defend himself against saber attacks. That’s where Excalibur came into play. What would a lightsaber version of Excalibur look like? I started sketching and came up with a silhouette I really liked, but the practicality of holstering/sheathing it nagged at me until I had the idea that the crossguard didn’t have to be stationary. Perhaps it could activate or deactivate with the saber. So after some more sketches and some back and forth with Lucasfilm, it was decided that the crossguard would activate as opposed to always being open, which would give the saber the slimmer silhouette while holstered and would lend itself to some great visuals when activating.”

I’m a fan of the design that the creative team came up with for this lightsaber. What do you think of the lightsaber design?

Halloween, Halloween 4 & Halloween 5 Returning to Theaters Next Month

Variety brings word that John Carpenter’s original Halloween, Halloween 4, and Halloween 5 will be returning to theaters and drive-ins in more than two dozen U.S. markets next month. Through a partnership between CineLife Entertainment, Compass International Pictures, and Trancas International Films, the October screenings have reportedly booked a total of 225 screens, including 104 drive-ins.

The Halloween film franchise kicked off in 1978 and has led to 11 films that have grossed over $600 million worldwide, with the first installment directed by Carpenter who co-wrote the screenplay along with Debra Hill. Starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasence, the movie introduced the infamous killer Michael Myers, who escapes from a mental hospital 15 years after murdering his sister on Halloween night and returns to the small town of Haddonfield, Illinois to kill again.

“We are so excited to be bringing these films back, especially to drive-ins across the country where this iconic franchise launched,” said Ryan Freimann, senior vice president of Trancas and Compass. “Now, with the fall season growing closer, the drive-in format is helping keep both Halloween spirit and the cinema experience alive in these unprecedented times.”

The version of Halloween being screened at drive-in theaters next month will be a restored and remastered print, apparently created under cinematographer Dean Cundey’s supervision.

CRITICAL ROLE Launches CRITICAL ROLE Foundation

Critical Role is an extremely popular Dungeons & Dragons live-play series starring some nerdy voice actors. Fans, often called Critters, are constantly talking about the cast, the characters, the world, and the story. One area that Critical Role is almost always trying to do better though is their philanthropic endeavors. To up their humanitarian efforts, Critical Role is launching a nonprofit organization dubbed Critical Role Foundation. Ashley Johnson will serve as president and the mission statement is simple: “Leave the world better than we found it.”

CRF will partner with other nonprofits “whose values align with the Critical Role community” and then work together to get donations to programs and projects that fulfill the above mission statement. It should be noted that CRF is a “501(c)(3) non-profit organization and donations are 100% tax deductible in the United States.” In the past, Critical Role has raised over $600,000 for charities like 826LA, Red Nose Day, OSD, and so many more. CRF will, in theory, allow for a more direct approach to the Critical Role team’s humanitarian efforts. The first partnership for CRF is First Nations Development Institute.

First Nations Development Institute…is the most highly-rated American Indian nonprofit in the country, whose mission is to strengthen American Indian economies and to support healthy Native communities through a variety of different programs. Right now, only about 85% of applications to the Native Youth & Culture Fund are supported and that’s precisely why CRF is stepping in to help with a fundraising goal of $50,000 to fund these two remarkable programs serving Native youth for an entire year.

CRF plans to raise money with specific fundraising campaigns and 10% of the funds will be allocated to an emergency fund. This emergency fund will be available for CRF to use in times of natural disasters or other unforeseen events that require a bit more immediate assistance. Maybe, just maybe, the world will be a little brighter because of this.
