Writer and co-creator of the Bill and Ted franchise insists that a fourth movie is never going to happen.

Disney is moving forward with its sequel to director Jon Favreau’s The Lion King and it will be helmed by Barry Jenkins (Moonlight, If Beale Street Could Talk). Jeff Nathanson, who scripted the last movie, has also completed an initial draft of the script.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Disney is making a sequel to the 2019 film. After all, that first movie made a ton of money and Disney really loves the franchises that are money-making machines.

Jenkins is a talented filmmaker and storyteller and this is what he had to say in a statement:

“Helping my sister raise two young boys during the ’90s, I grew up with these characters. Having the opportunity to work with Disney on expanding this magnificent tale of friendship, love and legacy while furthering my work chronicling the lives and souls of folk within the African diaspora is a dream come true.”

There are no details regarding the story, but Deadline reports that the “story will further explore the mythology of the characters, including Mufasa’s origin story. Moving the story forward while looking back conjures memories of The Godfather: Part II, set on the African plain with a continuation of the tradition of music that was a key part of the 1994 animated classic, the 2019 film and the blockbuster Broadway stage transfer.”

Don’t expect the movie to be a remake of the animated sequel that was made. This is going to be a completely new story. But, the film will also continue to use the photo-realistic CGI technology that Favreau used in the 2019 film and 2016’s The Jungle Book.

As for the cast, there’s no official word on who will return, but I imagine many of the cast membes from Favreau’s film will be back. That voice cast from the first film includes Donald Glover, Alfre Woodard, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, James Earl Jones, John Oliver, Keegan-Michael Key, Eric Andre, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Amy Sedaris and Chance the Rapper.

There is no release date set for The Lion King sequel, but it’s a top priority for the studio. I’m sure that Jenkins will deliver a great sequel that fans will love.

According to Variety, Disney is developing a sequel to 2019’s photorealistic remake of The Lion King with Oscar-winner Barry Jenkins (Moonlight, If Beale Street Could Talk) set to direct the project. Jeff Nathanson, the writer of the 2019 Oscar-nominated film, is returning to pen the sequel. Jenkins partner, director Lulu Wang, posted about the news on Twitter, which you can check out below!

The movie will serve as a continuation of the studio’s remake that was directed by Emmy nominee Jon Favreau (The Mandalorian) and earned over $1.5 billion at the global box office. A release date or production start for the sequel has not yet been announced.

Lions rule the African savanna in  2019’s The Lion King, which welcomes Donald Glover (Atlanta, Solo: A Star Wars Story) as future-king Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter (Dreamgirls, “Lemonade” visual album) as Simba’s friend-turned-love interest Nala, and James Earl Jones (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Field of Dreams) as Simba’s wise and loving father, Mufasa, reprising his iconic performance from Disney’s 1994 animated classic.

Chiwetel Ejiofor (Twelve Years a Slave, Doctor Strange) was called on to portray Simba’s villainous uncle Scar, and Alfre Woodard (Juanita, Marvel’s Luke Cage) portrays Simba’s no-nonsense mother, Sarabi. JD McCrary (Tyler Perry’s The Paynes, Vital Signs) fills the shoes of Young Simba, a confident cub who can’t wait to be king, and Shahadi Wright Joseph (Hairspray Live, Broadway’s “The Lion King”) brings tough cub Young Nala to life.

Every kingdom comes with a trustworthy advisor or two. John Kani (Coriolanus, Captain America: Civil War) was cast as the wise baboon Rafiki, and John Oliver (Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart) was tapped as hornbill Zazu, Mufasa’s loyal confidant. When Simba goes into exile, he relies on two newfound friends — Seth Rogen (Sausage Party, Neighbors) lends his comedic chops to naïve warthog Pumbaa, and Billy Eichner (Billy on the Street, American Horror Story) joins the cast as know-it-all meerkat, Timon.

While most of the animals in the kingdom respect the king, the hyenas have other plans. Florence Kasumba (Emerald City, Black Panther) portrays Shenzi, Eric André (The Eric André Show, Man Seeking Woman) is Azizi, and Keegan-Michael Key (Predator, Friends from College) plays Kamari.

The soundtrack that Daft Punk created for Tron: Legacy was a huge part of what made that movie so awesome. To this day, ten years later, I still enjoy listening to that soundtrack. It’s a great way to derezz after a long day.

Well, Mondo has announced that they will be releasing a vinyl edition of the soundtrack, and thanks to Collider, we have a first look at the art that was created by artist Matt Taylor.

Mondo calls this “one of our holy grail releases,” and Mo Shafeek, Mondo’s creative director of music, explained that this version is “a direct repressing of what was released on the original vinyl album, which did feature a full collection of bonus tracks.”

Mondo, in partnership with Walt Disney Records, is proud to present the 10th anniversary pressing of Daft Punk’s incredible soundtrack to the film TRON: LEGACY.

Composed by Daft Punk and arranged and orchestrated by Joseph Trapanese, the score for TRON: LEGACY took over two years to complete in a purpose-built studio created by Disney for the iconic duo. It features a stunning mix of electronics fused with a more traditional 85-piece orchestra.

Daft Punk managed to devise a score that’s not only a living, breathing character within the film, but also one that works as a stand-alone record away from the visuals it soundtracked. It’s hard to believe this was their first significant film project (apart from their animated film Interstella 555 in 2003), and the work they deliver here is nothing short of stunning.

Our edition of the modern classic is newly (and exclusively) remastered by James Plotkin and contains the entire score plus bonus tracks split across four sides. Featuring all new artwork by Matt Taylor, housed in a spot-varnished die-cut O-Card, and pressed on 2x 180 gram colored vinyl.

The new vinyl will cost $35, and it goes on sale at 12pm CT on Wednesday, September 30th, 2020. The item will be shipped in November.

The Crown Photos Reveal First Look at Gillian Anderson & Emma Corrin in Season 4

Netflix has released photos from The Crown Season 4 providing the first look at Gillian Anderson as Margaret Thatcher and Emma Corrin as Princess Diana (via Deadline). Returning on November 15, you can check out the photos for the new season now in the gallery below!

The third season of The Crown saw the entire cast aging up, including Olivia Colman, Helena Bonham Carter, and Tobias Menzies taking over for Claire Foy, Vanessa Kirby, and Matt Smith who respectively portrayed the roles of Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Margaret, and Prince Philip during the first two seasons. Prince Charles and Princess Anne will also grow older with Josh O’Connor and Erin Doherty filling in those roles. Gillian Anderson will play Margaret Thatcher with Emerald Fennell portraying Camilla Parker Bowles.

Season three of The Crown took place during 1964 and 1972 and is covering major events in British history, like Princess Margaret’s affair with Roddy Llewellyn, Margaret Thatcher’s political rise, and the introduction of Camilla Parker Bowles. Both Seasons 3 and 4 of the series will be shot back-to-back.

The series tells the inside story of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, as the fragile social order established after the Second World War breaks apart. Based on the award-winning play, “The Audience,” the series reunites creator/writer Peter Morgan (The Queen, Frost/Nixon) with director Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot, The Hours) and producer Andy Harries (The Queen).

Seasons 1-3 of The Crown are already available for streaming on Netflix. Season 5 is set to premiere in 2022.

Warner Bros. and Spotify Team Up For Batman Unburied Scripted Podcast

Back in June, Warner Bros. and Spotify unveiled a deal to create DC scripted podcasts. Now, the first-ever scripted Spotify podcast has been revealed. Spotify has announced that Batman Unburied will be released in 2021. The new podcast will “explore the darker aspects of Bruce Wayne’s psychology.”

The Dark Knight trilogy co-writer, David S. Goyer, wrote the story for Batman Unburied and will executive produce the podcast.

“I’ve been a fan of narrative podcasts for some time and was looking for the right story — returning to Batman seems like the perfect opportunity,” said Goyer in a statement. “We’ll also be using the unique advantages of audio to dig into the more nightmarish members of the Dark Knight’s Rogues Gallery.”

Additionally, Goyer’s production company, Phantom Four, is teaming up with Warner Bros.’ Blue Ribbon Content to produce the podcast. However, Spotify hasn’t announced any additional writers yet.

Spotify’s Dawn Ostroff also shared a statement about Goyer’s involvement with the new Batman podcast.

“David Goyer is an exceptional talent, and we can think of no better leader to leverage the infinite possibilities of podcasting to bring the nearly 300 million Spotify users around the world a Batman saga for the ages.”

More DC scripted podcasts are also likely to follow Batman Unburied in 2021.

The Iron Mask Blu-ray and home media details revealed!

After coming to American audiences earlier this year, the Jackie Chan and Arnold Schwarzenegger-starring fantasy action epic The Iron Mask is coming to Blu-ray, DVD and digital platforms this November and Lionsgate has unveiled the details for the new release! A new release trailer can also be viewed in the player below!

The Iron Mask is a high concept fantasy historical epic featuring breath-taking fights and stunning visuals. Set in the 18th century, The film follows English traveler Jonathan Green as he journeys from Russia to China encountering dragons, black magic wizardry, and a dragon king during an incredible but deadly adventure.

The film will star Jason Flemyng (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) and Charles Dance (Game of Thrones) who are reprising their roles as Jonathan Green and Lord Dudley from the first film. Joining them are action legends Jackie Chan (Rush Hour) as Master and Arnold Schwarzenegger (The Terminator) as James Hook along with the late Rutger Hauer (Blade Runner).

The Iron Mask is directed by Oleg Stepchenko from a screenplay he co-wrote with Alexey Petrukhin and Dmitri Palees. It is produced by Gleb Fetisov, Petrukhin and Sergey Sozanovsky.

The action pic is set to first hit digital platforms and Video on Demand on November 20, followed by hitting shelves on Blu-ray and DVD on November 24 with the Blu-ray copy also featuring a digital copy of the film.

Blumhouse’s The Craft Legacy Trailer & Poster: Let the Ritual Begin

Blumhouse Productions and Columbia Pictures have released the trailer for The Craft: Legacy, revealing that the film will be available widely on PVOD this Halloween for a 48-hour rental period as well as premium digital purchase in North America starting midnight October 28. Zoe Lister-Jones’ film, from Blumhouse and Red Wagon Entertainment for Columbia Pictures, is a continuation of the cult hit The Craft (1996), in which an eclectic foursome of aspiring teenage witches get more than they bargained for as they lean into their newfound powers.

Written and directed by Zoe Lister-Jones, the film stars Cailee Spaeny (Bad Times at the El Royale, On the Basis of Sex), Gideon Adlon (The Society, Blockers, The Mustang), Lovie Simone (Selah & the Spades, Greenleaf), Zoey Luna (Pose, Boundless), Nicholas Galitzine (Cinderella), with Michelle Monaghan and David Duchovny.

“I’m thrilled to be able to share The Craft: Legacy with audiences all over the world this Halloween,” said the film’s writer and director, Zoe Lister-Jones. “It’s been a true privilege to take on such an iconic title.
