Amazon’s THE LORD OF THE RINGS Series Adds 20 New Cast Members

Twenty new actors have joined the cast of Amazon’s highly anticipated Middle Earth-set series inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings.

The new actors that have been announced include Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Maxim Baldry, Ian Blackburn, Kip Chapman, Anthony Crum, Maxine Cunliffe, Trystan Gravelle, Sir Lenny Henry, Thusitha Jayasundera, Fabian McCallum, Simon Merrells, Geoff Morrell, Peter Mullan, Lloyd Owen, Augustus Prew, Peter Tait, Alex Tarrant, Leon Wadham, Benjamin Walker, and Sara Zwangobani.

They join the previously announced cast members Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Nazanin Boniadi, Tom Budge, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, and Daniel Weyman.

Game of Thrones alum Bryan Cogman is serving as a consulting producer on the show, and J.A. Bayona (A Monster Calls, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) is set to direct multiple episodes. J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay are leading the charge on the project as the writers and showrunners. Payne and McKay said in a statement:

“The world that J.R.R. Tolkien created is epic, diverse, and filled with heart. These extraordinarily talented performers, hailing from across the globe, represent the culmination of a multi-year search to find brilliant and unique artists to bring that world to life anew. The international cast of Amazon’s The ‘Lord of the Rings’ series is more than just an ensemble. It is a family. We are thrilled to welcome each of them to Middle-earth.”

The series will be set in the Second Age, which is about 3,000 years of history between the series and the beginning of The Lord of the Rings. Amazon has committed to five seasons of the series, and they will spend over a billion dollars bringing the story to life. It’s been said that the series will have a “mind-blowing” scale.

The show’s official Twitter account previously shared an image of a map teasing the setting along with two messages: “One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them, In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie,” as well as, “Welcome to the Second Age.”

In Tolkien’s Middle Earth mythology, the Second Age was the time in which the Rings of Power, including Sauron’s One Ring, came into existence. It was also teased that the film could involve the island of Numenor. The series will be shot in New Zealand, and the studio also announced that they are already moving forward on Season 2.

The Lord of the Rings series is produced by Amazon Studios in cooperation with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins, and New Line Cinema. It is expected to debut in 2021.

The Trailer for CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA Part 4 Is “One Hell of a Ride”

Netflix has released the full trailer for Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Part 4. This is the final chapter of the series, and it looks like this show that I’ve enjoyed so much watching will end on a high note. This next season looks great as Sabrina and her friends find themselves fighting against two powerful threats including The Void and the ancient, world-destroying entities, The Eldritch Terrors, who are out to end all things.

The Eldritch Terrors will descend upon Greendale. The coven must fight each terrifying threat one-by-one (The Weird, The Returned, The Darkness to name a few), all leading up to…The Void, which is the End of All Things. As the witches wage war, with the help of The Fright Club, Nick begins to slowly earn his way back into Sabrina’s heart, but will it be too late?

Kiernan Shipka stars in the series, and she is joined by Lucy Davis (Wonder Woman) as Hilda Spellman, Miranda Otto (Annabelle: Creation) as Zelda Spellman, Michelle Gomez (Doctor Who) as Mary Wardell/ Lilith, Chance Perdomo as Ambrose Spellman, Jaz Sinclair as Roz Walker, Richard Coyle as Father Blackwood, Tati Gabrielle as Prudence, Ross Lynch as Harvey Kinkle, Gavin Leatherwood as Nick Scratch, Lachlan Watson as Susie/Theo Putnam, and Luke Cook as the Dark Lord.

The series was created by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Riverdale) who also wrote the series. Lee Toland Krieger will direct and executive produce with Aguirre-Sacasa, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Jon Goldwater.

The final chapter will be available for streaming on New Year’s Eve, December 31st.

Damien Chazelle’s Babylon Adds Li Jun Li as Anna May Wong

According to Collider, Li Jun Li (Wu Assassins, Evil) has been tapped to portray the role of Anna May Wong in director Damien Chazelle’s upcoming period drama film Babylon which will be led by Oscar winner Brad Pitt. This new casting addition comes after it has been confirmed that Oscar nominee Margot Robbie is currently in early talks to replace Emma Stone for the female lead.

The late veteran actress Anna May Wong gained recognition as the first Chinese American Hollywood movie star. She is known for starring in silent films such as The Toll of the Sea and The Thief of Bagdad. Wong also found success as a fashion icon and an international stage star in Europe. Additionally, she is known for famously turning down a supporting role in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s The Good Earth when the studio had refused to consider her for the lead role of the Chinese character and had instead opted to cast a white actor to play the POC role in yellowface. Wong was most recently been portrayed by Michelle Krusiec in Ryan Murphy’s Netflix miniseries Hollywood.

Babylon is described as an original drama set in period Hollywood, a “bold auteur piece with a significant budget.” Lionsgate was previously in the lead to land the movie at auction until Paramount came through with the winning bid.

Paramount has high expectations for the project as they have already slated it for a limited Christmas Day 2021 release in theaters followed by a wide release on January 7, 2022, a prime slate for Oscar season, and given Chazelle’s 23 Oscar nominations across three films. However, given the world’s current situation, it remains unclear if the pandemic had also affected the project’s planned release.

Brandon Routh Joins Nathan Fillion in THE ROOKIE Season 3

Brandon Routh (Superman, Legends of Tomorrow) has been cast in the upcoming third season of ABC’s police drama series The Rookie. He will have a recurring role in the series as a character named Doug Stanton, “an eleven-year veteran of the LAPD, whose views prove to be polarizing at the Mid-Wilshire station.”

Nathan Fillion stars in the series as John Nolan, the oldest rookie at the Los Angeles Police Department. I’ve enjoyed the first couple of seasons of this series, and it’ll be great to see Routh join it. Routh is set to appear in four episodes and the character is being set up to possibly appear in more episodes.

The Rookie was created by Alexi Hawley, and Season 3 is set to premiere on January 3rd.
