Watched at Home: Top Streaming Films for the Week of January 23

So, this is pretty cool. Along with a Top 20 Streaming List for the week of January 23, the Digital Entertainment Group also compiled a year-end 2020 report. Guess what the most viewed film of last year was … go ahead. Guess. How about, Frozen 2? That makes sense considering it plays nonstop in most households, though, surprisingly, the second most streamed movie was Jumanji: The Next Level followed by Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker and Warner Bros.’ R-rated Joker. That’s quite the collection of movies, but, considering we’re amidst a global pandemic that has all but shut down Hollywood, not the least bit surprising. You can check out the whole list below!

As for the weekly list, American Skin, about a Marine veteran who seeks justice when his son is killed by a police officer, actually bumped Christopher Nolan’s Tenet from the throne. Shocking. Other new entries include the documentary MLK/FBI (No. 10), Let Him Go (No. 11) and the thriller Horizon Line (No. 15), while the Martin Scorsese crime drama/comedy The Wolf of Wall Street landed at No. 19.

The Next TOMB RAIDER Game Will “Unify” The Reboot Trilogy With The Original Classic Games

The Tomb Raider video game franchise is going to head in an interesting direction. The next game is said to “unify” the more recent reboot trilogy with the original game from the 90s. From there, the future stories will be set after the events of the classic Tomb Raider games.

The news comes from a recently shared video announcing the franchise’s 25th anniversary celebrations, which are going to take place over the course of the year. Crystal Dynamics’ executive producer, Dallas Dickinson, teased the future of the franchise, and director Will Kerslake offered the following details:

“[Crystal Dynamics’] origin trilogy back in 2013 told the story of Lara’s early days […] while the classic games featured a seasoned and confident adventurer, travelling the world, unlocking its secrets, often standing alone against cataclysmic forces. We envision the future of Tomb Raider unfolding after these established adventures, telling stories that build upon the breadth of both Core Design and Crystal Dynamics’ games, working to unify these timelines.”

I’m actually excited about this direction that they’re taking, but Kerslake explains that it won’t be an easy task, due to Tomb Raider‘s “extensive history”, and it sounds like they have a long way to go. Kerslake says:

“This is not an easy task, and we ask for your patience as we go through the development process. We don’t have plans for a major game announcement in the near future.”

The Tomb Raider franchise has a couple of other things in development including the upcoming feature film sequel that’s in development along with an anime series coming to Netflix. So, we’ve got plenty of Tomb Raider entertainment coming our way.

Neil Gaiman’s podcast series adaptation of his graphic novel The Sandman has been picked up for two more seasons by Audible. The first season launched in July 2020 and it’s since become Audible’s best-selling original to date.

The Sandman: Act II and The Sandman: Act III audio dramas will premiere exclusively on Audible. They will again be adapted and directed by Dirk Maggs and narrated by Gaiman, who also returns as creative director and co-executive producer.

The initial 20-episode installment of the podcast series adapted volumes 1-3 of the graphic novel series, “Preludes & Nocturnes”, “The Doll’s House” and “Dream Country”. Part two will cover the “Season of Mists,” “Distant Mirrors,” “A Game of You” and “Convergence” volumes of “The Sandman” series, and the third installment will adapt “Brief Lives” and “Worlds Ends.”

The first series had an awesome voice cast which included James McAvoy as Morpheus, Kat Dennings as Death, Taron Egerton as John Constantine, Michael Sheen as Lucifer, Riz Ahmed as the Corinthian, Andy Serkis as Matthew the Raven, Samantha Morton as Urania Blackwell, Bebe Neuwirth as the Siamese Cat, and Justin Vivian Bond as Desire. There’s no word on if the same cast will be returning.

Gaiman said in a statement:

“It was thrilling to be a part of the fastest-selling Audible fiction title and to watch it break records. I’m excited to discover what other surprises the genius Dirk Maggs has up his sleeve in the next volumes of Audible’s ‘The Sandman.’ It’s like making movies for the ear that go straight to the brain. And soon it will be time to meet the whole family, then to go back to Hell once more, as Morpheus confronts Lucifer in ‘Season of Mists.’”

Maggs added:

“We have a big vision for the next two seasons and the stories in this next installment are among the best Neil has ever told.”

Rachel Ghiazza, EVP, head of U.S. content at Audible went on to say:

“Audible is proud to be a home for creative visionaries who are bringing extraordinarily immersive stories, like The Sandman, to life. We cannot wait for listeners to enter the Dreaming again and wanted to give fans even more to look forward to by greenlighting not just one season but the next two highly anticipated installments.”

Did you listen to the first season of The Sandman podcast series, and are you excited to hear that we are getting two more seasons?

Zack Snyder’s JUSTICE LEAGUE Release Date Confirmed and Three New Posters Shared

Zack Snyder has shared three new posters for Justice League and announced that the four-hour film will premiere on HBO Max on March 18th, 2021. The wait for fans is almost over!

Snyder has been hard at work putting together his vision of Justice League for the fans. Warner Bros. gave him a budget of around $70 million to complete his movie and a lot of post-production work went into it. He and his team had to edit it, work on the sound, music, special effects, and there were even a couple of new scenes that were shot for the movie. One of those scenes will feature Jared Leto’s Joker.

The poster for the film, which you can see below, are captioned “Fallen,” “Risen,” and “Reborn.” The first features a shattered Justice League logo, the second is an homage to the cover of 1992’s The Death of Superman and it features a tattered flag with the Justice League logo. The third poster is a film canister with the logo on it.
