FilmRise has released a trailer for an upcoming thriller titled Surge. It stars Ben Whishaw (Paddington, James Bond) as a man named Joseph who goes on a bold and reckless journey of self-liberation after he has a mental break.

The story is set over 24 hours in London, and Joseph is “trapped in a soulless job, living a life devoid of emotion and meaning. During the opening sequence of the season finale of Marvel’s Loki, as the Marvel logo appeared it featured several audio clips of quotes from various Marvel projects. I’m sure some of you turned on your closed captioning option to see what was being said.

But, there’s a Marvel fan that went the extra mile by tracking down every clip featuring the footage from where the audio clip originated. He then placed those clips in the Loki opening. It’s pretty cool to see! It actually makes the opening feel like a whole new experience because you can see exactly where the quote is coming from.

There’s certainly a deeper meaning to this opening, and I’m curious to see exactly what it is. With the events of Loki cracking open the multiverse, all of these moments could now have alternate realities on how things play out. A lot of these alternate realities will be explored in the upcoming animated series Marvel’s What If…?

The script for the film comes from Christina Hodson, who wrote the Transformers movie Bumblebee as well as DC’s Birds of Prey and The Flash. Kristin Burr, who recently worked on Cruella, is producing the film, which is going to be released exclusively on HBO Max. Burr said in a statement:

‘With Batgirl, we hope to take the audience on a fun ride and see a different side of Gotham. Christina’s script is crackling with spirit. Adil and Bilall have an excited and joyous energy which is infectious, making them the perfect filmmakers for this Batproject. And I’m just psyched I get to be part of the DC universe, which is super cool.”

We don’t know anything about the story that the movie will tell, but we do know it will center on Barbara Gordon, the crime-fighting daughter of Commissioner James Gordon.

Stephen Woolfenden Steps in to Direct WILLOW Series Pilot as Jonathan Entwistle Exits the Disney+ Show

willow-warwick davis original.jpg

The sequel series Willow is still headed our way, but is going through a few growing pains at the moment. Director Jonathan Entwistle has stepped away from the project, and Stephen Woolfenden has stepped in to direct the series’ pilot episode. Woolfenden is no stranger to the fantasy genre, having worked as the second unit director on four Harry Potter films, as well as the Fantastic Beasts films and Pokémon Detective Pikachu, then moving on to direct episodes of Doctor Who and Outlander.

Deadline reports that Entwistle, the second director on the project, had signed up for the job in late January, calling it “a dream come true,” but then reportedly left the project in April. Entwistle replaced Jon M. Chu, who had stepped down two weeks prior citing scheduling concerns.

The production schedule for Willow was pushed, in part because of a recasting of one of the leads. As a result, Entwistle left during prep in April due to a scheduling conflict with his Apple TV+ series Hello Tomorrow, starring Billy Crudup, which is about to start production.

The report goes on to say that Entwistle’s exit did not impact production. Stephen Woolfenden, a producing director on the Willow series, stepped in to shoot the first two episodes, which now have been completed.

The series a follow-up to the 1988 fantasy movie, with the film’s star Warwick Davis reprising his title role.

The new incarnation comes from Jonathan Kasdan, who wrote the pilot and serves as co-showrunner alongside Wendy Mericle; the original film’s director Ron Howard and writer Bob Dolman; as well as Lucasfilm, which produced the movie.

The series is set to hit Disney+ in 2022.
