Viggo Mortenson Discusses the Possibility of Playing Aragorn in THE HUNT FOR GOLLUM

The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt For Gollum director Andy Serkis recently teased that some characters from the original Lord of the Rings movies “might be coming back” for the film. Fans wonder if one of those characters will be Viggo Mortensen’s Aragorn.

Mortensen previously shared that he was open to returning to the role, and he recently discussed in more detail, what it would take for him to come back.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter,, Mortensen said: “I haven’t read a script. So I don’t know. The script is the most important thing to me unless I’m broke, I have no money and I’m lucky to get any job. So it depends.”

When asked how often he chooses a project for money, he replied, “Lately, I’ve been lucky and it hasn’t for a while.”

The actor previously said: “I like playing that character. I learned a lot playing the character. I enjoyed it a lot. I would only do it if I was right for it in terms of, you know, the age I am now and so forth. I would only do it if I was right for the character. It would be silly to do it otherwise.”

When talking about why they are telling this story, Jackson said: “The Gollum/Sméagol character has always fascinated me because Gollum reflects the worst of human nature, whilst his Sméagol side is, arguably, quite sympathetic.

“I think he connects with readers and film audiences alike, because there’s a little bit of both of them in all of us. We really want to explore his backstory and delve into those parts of his journey we didn’t have time to cover in the earlier films.

“It’s too soon to know who will cross his path, but suffice to say we will take our lead from Professor Tolkien.”

I’m really curious about this movie and I hope that the story and filmmaking is as strong as the original trilogy.
