The FRIDAY THE 13TH Series CRYSTAL LAKE is Still in Development Despite Reports That It’s Dead

A Friday The 13th prequel series titled Crystal Lake has been in development for some time, and it was recently reported by The Insneider that A24 has “pulled the plug” on the series, which was set to begin shooting sometime this year.

The report said that, “It’s unclear whether this is a permanent decision or a temporary one, as A24 had no comment. Perhaps Peacock will help the trades shed more light on this project, which was announced back in 2022.”

Well, according to Bloody-Disgusting, that report is wrong and the series is still alive and well. They say: “A24 has NOT killed off Crystal Lake at this time. We have confirmed the show is still happening, but there is indeed some retooling of the project happening behind the scenes.”

That project was being written and developed by Bryan Fuller (Hannibal, Dead Like Me, Star Trek: Discovery) and he was also going to serve as showrunner and executive producer. He’s no longer attached to it, though.

Victor Miller, who wrote the original film in the franchise, will be an executive produce the show.

Scream creator Kevin Williamson was also brought on board to write an episode. It was also revealed that the original Friday final girl Adrienne King will have a recurring role.

The series is set up at Peacock and the project was given a straight-to-series order. Not much is known about the story, all we know is that it will be an “expanded prequel” to the original Friday the 13th franchise.

It was also previously explained: “Fuller has pitched four seasons for Crystal Lake. Only one officially ordered so far though he notes Peacock would have to pay a pretty hefty penalty if they didn’t order a Season 2.

“Asked if he can confirm Pamela’s role in the Crystal Lake series, Fuller replied ‘We’re honestly going to be covering it all. The series is covering the life and times of these two characters” Those two characters are Pamela and Jason.”

Pamela’s backstory involved her being a young and pregnant newlywed living in a trailer in Cadiz, Ohio with her abusive husband Elias Voorhees.

Pamela believed that she could actually hear the thoughts of her unborn child instructing her towards committing acts of violence. After suffering a long series of beatings perpetuated by her husband, Pamela heeded the voice inside her that told her to “kill.”
