When we learned that Disney would be developing a third Tron movie, I was wondering if the filmmakers would bring Jeff Bridges back into the world of Tron.

Well, it looks like Bridges will be back for Tron: Ares! The actor confirmed the news himself during an interview on the Film Comment podcast.

The interview was in regards to receiving the 49th Chaplin Award from Film at Lincoln Center, so the actor’s entire movie legacy was up for discussion.

When Tron came up in the conversation, Bridges dropped the following details: “I’m heading off this Saturday to play a part in the third installment of the ‘Tron’ story.”

He continued: “I’m excited about that. … Jared Leto is the star of this third one, and I’m really anxious to work with him … to see what the technology is going to be all about.”

It’ll be interesting to see what Bridges’ involvement with Tron: Ares will be and how his character Kevin Flynn fits into the story and how big of a role he plays.

What would you like to see from the story in regard to Kevin Flynn and how his character should be utilized?

The sequel is being directed by Joachim Rønning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, Kon Tiki), and the film follows a highly sophisticated Program, Ares, “who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings.”

The movie also stars Cameron Monaghan (Star Wars Jedi), Evan Peters (WandaVision), Greta Lee, Jodie Turner-Smith (Without Remorse), Greta Lee, Hasan Minhaj, Arturo Castro, and Gillian Anderson.

Rønning previously talked about the movie saying: “I’m excited to be part of the TRON franchise and bring this new film to fans around the world.

“TRON: Ares builds upon the legacy of cutting-edge design, technology and storytelling. Now more than ever, it feels like the right time to return to the Grid.”

Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne wrote the script. The film arrives in theaters on October 10, 2025.
