James Gunn Offers Update on CREATURE COMMANDOS and Confirms Episode Count

The first project to be released by DC Studios is going to be James Gunn’s Creature Commandos animated series. The Creature Commando’s team consists of monsters and superheroes that are fighting Nazis during World War II.

In the series, the Creature Commandos work under the supervision of Amanda Waller (Viola Davis). It was previously explained that the story for the project is so big that the only way it could be told is through animation because it would be way too expensive to pull off for live-action. But, it was previously revealed that many of these characters, “will also play the roles in live-action later on in the DCU.”

Gunn recently offered an update on the project on social media and confirmed that the series will consist of seven episodes. He also revealed that all the voice recording for the show’s first season was completed before the actor’s strike, so the work on the series can proceed.

The voice cast includes Sean Gunn as Weasel and GI Robot, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic, Indira Varma as The Bride, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein, with Steve Agee reprising his role as John Economos from Peacemaker.

Gunn previously said of the series: “Creature Commandos is based on the great team from DC. What we’re doing with the DCU is, we are having animation tied directly into live action. Television, movies, and games all intertwine within the same universe. We’re going to cast actors that are going to be able to play the characters in this as well as in other things, some of which we’ve already cast. I’ve written all seven episodes of the show.”

Creature Commandos doesn’t have a release date yet, but Gunn has confirmed the series will drop before his film Superman: Legacy, which is currently slated for July 11, 2025.
