TMNT: MUTANT MAYHEM Sequel Looking at Shredder and Superfly Team-Up; Director Talks About What Else He’d Like to See

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is out in theaters, and fans are having a blast watching it! The movie is such a fun take on the nostalgic characters, leaning into their teen coming-of-age stories, and telling a great story with awesome graphics and villains to enjoy. One of the film’s directors, Jeff Rowe, has teased some big plans for the sequel, which was teased in the movie’s post-credits scene, and confirmed by the studio.

The second film will bring the turtles’ biggest franchise villain, Shredder, to the story, after he was rewritten out of the first story. There was already such an awesome ensemble of mutant villains, and the focus was placed on Superfly, voiced by Ice Cube. So could we see Shredder show up and maybe team up with Superfly? When asked whether that’s Superfly in that jar, Rowe told /Film:

“That is absolutely, I mean, well … she has a fly in a hyper secure containment unit, I wonder what that is? [laughs] The thing is, Ice Cube is so compelling in that role, and Superfly is such a fun, memorable, lovable character, you don’t want him to be dead. You gotta be able to preserve the ability to bring him back.”

When asked what will happen with the villains in the next movie, Rowe said:

“We’re not sure yet. We’re very early, but it’s like, we cast all these great comedic performers in these roles and we barely got to scratch the surface of using them in this film. I want to see a whole scene between Bebop and Rocksteady. I want to have a whole scene with Wingnut and Donnie talking about anime. I want to spend time with each of these characters, and I think the challenge will be, how do we do that without taking too much spotlight away from the Turtles in the film and also not making something that feels episodic, making something that’s a well-oiled machine that does right by all of the characters?”

Whatever they end up doing, it will be fun, I’m sure! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is in theaters now. What would you like to see explored in the second film?
