Joel McHale Talks About Donald Glover Returning for COMMUNITY: THE MOVIE

Community fans have been waiting for a Community movie to be made for years. It was never really a sure thing, but creator Dan Harmon managed to pull it off, and the movie is 100% a go! The project is currently in a holding pattern due to the writer’s strike, but in Joel McHale’s words, Community: The Movie is “still going to happen.”

He also previously said: “When this strike is over, we’ll come back and we’ll make it. And I am sure that [series creator] Dan [Harmon] will put in 12 jokes addressing the fact it took [this long to come together]. But we’ll get there. It just may take a little while.”

McHale was recently a guest on Kelly Ripa’s podcast, Let’s Talk Off Camera, and while on the show he talked about Community and specifically discussed Donald Glover’s involvement. Gover previously confirmed his return, and McHale talks about how important that is to the movie. He said:

“Donald’s coming back and that’s really important. The fact that Donald’s gonna do it, that was the big piece. But I think everyone’s coming back. I mean, so far we’re pretty good. And I think that will happen. If not then, you know, Donald will be there.”

We don’t really know what the story will entail, but McHale does, and he previously teased that the story is really great, saying: “I know what’s going on [in the movie] but I can’t say anything. Everybody dies, it’s like the end of Hamlet. From what I know about it, it’s great, it really is. It’s going to be a barnburner.”

McHale and Glover will be joined in the film by returning stars Danny Pudi as Abed Nadir, Alison Brie as Annie Edison, Gillian Jacobs as Britta Perry, Jim Rash as Dean Pelton, and Ken Jeong as Ben Chang. We still don’t know for sure if Yvette Nicole Brown will return. Keith David is also expected to reprise his role as Elroy Patashnik.
