INSIDIOUS Spinoff Film in The Works with Mandy Moore and Kumail Nanjiani Set To Star

Blumhouse and James Wan’s Atomic Monster are developing an Insidious spinoff film with Mandy Moore (Dr. Death) and Kumail Nanjiani (Welcome to Chippendales) set to star in the movie. The movie is titled Thread: An Insidious Tale.

The story for the film is very different from what we’ve seen in the franchise before. It will follow a husband and wife (Nanjiani and Moore) “who enlist the help of a spell to travel back in time, such that they can prevent the death of their young daughter. The consequences, of course, prove to be severe.”

I like that they are expanding the franchise and doing something different with it. This sounds like it will make for a great horror story that isn’t the norm for the film series. The movie will be written and directed by Moon Knight creator Jeremy Slater.

This news comes as Patrick Wilson’s Insidious: The Red Door is set to be released this summer. That movie is set ten years after the last movie. In the story, “Josh Lambert (Wilson) heads east to drop his son Dalton (Ty Simpkins) off at an idyllic, ivy-covered university. However, Dalton’s college dream becomes a nightmare when the repressed demons of his past suddenly return to haunt them both.”

It’s explained, “To put their demons to rest once and for all, Josh and a college-aged Dalton must go deeper into The Further than ever before.”

This will most likely be the last movie that follows the story of the Lamber family.
