Liev Schreiber Explains Why He Didn’t Return To Play Sabertooth in LOGAN

Liev Schreiber made his debut as Victor Creed aka Sabretooth in the 2009 movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine. He was actually a great choice for that role! He made for a badass Sabertooth and he delivered a solid performance. I actually liked how some aspects of the story utilized the character and it would have been nice to see Schreiber play him again.

During a recent interview with GQ, the actor revealed why he didn’t return to the part for the 2017 movie Logan. The actor simply wasn’t asked to come back as the character just wasn’t part of the story, but Schreiber would have been happy to come back if they wanted him. He said:

“They didn’t ask me. No, I mean, I don’t think he was part of that story, you know? He wasn’t part of that story. I would have loved to bring Victor back, anytime anywhere, but he wasn’t part of that narrative. I wonder if I’m getting a little long in the tooth, so to speak, but probably not for Sabretooth.”

I’d actually still like to see Schreiber play Sabertooth again, and it’d be fun to see him pop up in Deadpool 3, but that probably won’t happen.

Schreiber’s portrayal of Sabertooth in X-Men Origins: Wolverine was considered to be one of the highlights of the film. Schreiber’s performance brought depth, intensity, and complexity to the character, elevating Sabertooth beyond a mere one-dimensional villain.

One of the key aspects that made Schreiber great in the role was his physicality. Sabertooth is a feral and savage mutant with animalistic traits, and Schreiber fully embraced this aspect, showcasing his imposing presence. His towering stature and muscular build made Sabertooth physically formidable and Schreiber’s performance captured Sabertooth’s predatory nature and animalistic instincts.

The actor also brought a sense of twisted morality and conflicted emotions to the character, giving him layers and he effectively portrayed Sabertooth’s complex relationship with Wolverine, conveying a mix of rivalry, camaraderie, and underlying brotherhood.

What did you think about Schreiber as Sabertooth? Would you like to see him play the character again?
