Academy Award-winning actor Robert De Niro (Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, Meet the Parents, Silver Linings Playbook) has signed on to star in the political thriller series Zero Day at Netflix. The series is being created by Eric Newman (Narcos, True Story) and Noah Oppenheim (Jackie, The Thing About Pam), who are serving as writers and executive producers, with a story by Newman, Oppenheim, and Pulitzer Prize winner Michael Schmidt. Jonathan Glickman of Panoramic Media will also executive produce, with De Niro executive producing in addition to starring.
Exact plot details are being kept under wraps, but sources say the show would be a political thriller in which De Niro would play a former U.S. President. This will be the first regular TV role for De Niro, who is one of the most well-known film actors in the past 50 years.
Netflix and the reps for De Niro and each of the creators involved are staying quiet in the early stages of development, but we will keep you posted as details emerge.
