Actress Jennifer Grey is returning to her most famous role of Frances “Baby” Houseman in the upcoming sequel Dirty Dancing 2. While it will be a bummer for fans to have a sequel that’s missing the late, great Patrick Swayze, Grey says we still have some familiar faces to look forward to seeing.
In a recent interview with Extra, Grey said we can expect to see the sequel return to Kellerman’s, where the first film took place. We will also see “Baby, quite a few years older,” and, “You will see other characters that are from the original.”
Grey admitted the sequel was “tricky and exciting.” It’s cool that they are making the movie now, when the bar is raised for sequels. Back in the 80s and 90s, it seems that we got sequels, especially for kids movies, that were just spit out and not well thought through, but I think that to make a second film in a franchise today, there has to be more of a story and a hook to bring back fans of the original property.
I can’t wait! Dirty Dancing is one of my favorite movies of all time, and I look forward to revisiting the cast and set. Dirty Dancing 2 is set to start shooting this Spring.
