The Witcher has been in the news a lot lately, with the revelation that Henry Cavill is leaving the hit series, to be replaced by Liam Hemsworth, as well as a new trailer being released for the new prequel limited series, The Witcher: Blood Origin.
Now, we have a bit of brand new news to share, which is that another new Witcher prequel is in the works, which will explore the infamous group of young Nilfgaardian misfits called The Rats. In the books, The Rats are featured in Ciri’s storyline as she joins them for a period of time.
In The Witcher Season 3, The Rats will be featured in episodes 7 and 8, when Ciri will first meet them. They are meant to be featured even more in Season 4 of The Witcher. But between Seasons 3 and 4, we’ll have the spinoff.
It isn’t clear whether the spinoff will be their origin story set before meeting Ciri or whether it will be during their time with Ciri and before the events of Season 4, so at the moment it seems as though it might be a prequel, but it’s not certain.
