Trailer for the Cannes Hit Heartbreaking Drama AFTERSUN

A24 has released the first trailer for the heavy drama Aftersun, which was a big hit at the Cannes Film Festival. The film is said to tell a heartfelt story that will break your heart.

The movie comes from director Charlotte Wells, and in the film, Sophie reflects on the shared joy and private melancholy of a holiday she took with her father twenty years earlier. “Memories real and imagined fill the gaps between as she tries to reconcile the father she knew with the man she didn’t.”

The movie stars Paul Mescal and Frankie Corio, and the reviews of the film have been so positive that it’s one that I’ll make the effort to see. This is the synopsis:

“At a fading vacation resort, 11-year-old Sophie treasures rare time together with her loving and idealistic father, Calum (Paul Mescal). As a world of adolescence creeps into view, beyond her eye Calum struggles under the weight of life outside of fatherhood. Twenty years later, Sophie’s tender recollections of their last holiday become a powerful and heartrending portrait of their relationship, as she tries to reconcile the father she knew with the man she didn’t, in Charlotte Wells’ superb and searingly emotional debut film.”

Aftersun opens on October 21st.
