It has been announced that a biopic is in the works that will tell the story of the band Sublime. Francis Lawrence (The Hunger Games, Constantine, I Am Legend) is set to direct the pic, which will chronicle the legendary, genre-bending band from Long Beach, California. Emmy-winner Chris Mundy, writer and showrunner of the hit Netflix series Ozark, is set to write the screenplay.
Surviving Sublime band members Bud Gaugh and Eric Wilson will executive produce alongside Troy and Jakob Nowell, the widow and son of the band’s late frontman, Bradley Nowell.
Sublime’s story is exciting and tragic. The band rose to fame in the early 90s due to their unique mash of rock, punk, rap, ska, and reggae. Then their future as a band changed instantly when their frontman Bradley Nowell died of a heroin overdose in May of 1996. Two months later, their self-titled album was released, and the singles “What I Got,” “Wrong Way,” and “Santeria” skyrocketed the band to international stardom.
I still listen to Sublime regularly. Their music is so good, and has held up over all these years. I am excited to know that we will see the story of how they came to be get told. Are you looking forward to this biopic?
